it didnt matter if history has taught us anything its that when 1 tyrant falls an even geater one emerges its been a year and we havent gotten an R 18 democracy has fallen we may as well just give up
Austrailia it seems is turning into the next China, with all the internet censorship and threatening citizens that express opinions about political figures. it really is a shame that ONE MAN can ruin the harmless hobbies of countless gamers, take potential purchases away from legitimate video game companies, and mislead the general public on the content of games in one foul swoop. it's time for change Australia.
If the libs win overall does that mean Atkinson is out of a job(Attorney-General)? Unfortunately Atkinson still holds his seat with a strong swing against him. G4C so far have about 3.6% of the vote which is pretty darn good.
So he can call gamers "criminals" yet sues when he is called a "crook"? Fucking hypocrite, vote the ALP idiots out of power when you get the chance people.
@AnthonyBx77 Yeah its crazy. Plays very loose with the way he refers to gamers but seems litigation happy. Also shows why the public backlash was warranted for the internet comments legislation he tabled. Can just imagine a bunch of labor party stooges hunched over monitors looking for comments to take "action" on. UTake advantage of the legislation to silence or bully critics via litigation....... never?!? ;)
Other than the fact that Australia has no legislated Free Speech protection. Not that I'm happy about it (Australia's freedom of speech is ranked around the 30's world-wide at last check, I'd need to verify it again), but considering the lack of protection the media is generally given a very long leash. It's a shame this "friendliness" doesn't extend quite so far towards those not in the media or fellow politicians.
I don't know much about the legal implications of defamation, but I assume the threat for $20k wasn't serious as much as it was insentive for Mr McQuillan to make the apology.
Still, cheap tactics by Mr Atkinson. It's funny, he complains about parents not being as tech-savvy as their kids, yet it seems to be only Mr Atkinson himself who fears technology and what people can do with it.
thats like getting sued for calling someone in the street a dickhead ... when will these stupid old fogeys understand that the internet is not a publication its like 20 billion conversations happening simuteniously

Oh, I do wish he'd grow up. Honestly, every politician has stuff like that written on the internet about them and to they complain or sue? No.
