This is impressive! Its impressive when anyone has feel and chops like that. You are16!!! Dynamics where great. The 16s to 3s where perfect! Very tricky stuff! Not Joey J. or Travis B. bullshit...This is real music.
Poorly played? Who are you? So you saw the score on this and now you're god? Where's YOUR video?
Excellent job man. Nothing "poorly played" about this at all. Some schmuck wants to give you criticism without bucking up his own video to the world, there's nothing you can do about that. Just keep on rockin like you are man, you're doin just fine. Better than fine dude. You're doin great! Borralhooo is a nimrod with no life obviously, so don't listen to him.
Poorly played? Who the fuck are you? Terry Bozzio? No, I'm sure to you, Terry Bozzio sucks! BTW, where's YOUR video BorralWHO?
Keep it up dude. There's nothing POOR about this performance at all. You'll find that, as a musician, the negative comments you receive will typically come from no-talent losers who think they are gods gift to the critic world.
There are 2 kinds of people, people with talent, and critics who think they KNOW EVERYTHING.
PS. It's "how many of you have actually SEEN the score".
You being perfect and all, I'd have thought you would have have retained some of what you learned in 3rd grade grammar. Oh, that's right, you dropped out of school at 7 to become a world renowned drum critic....
Obit says, "death metal?????" Quit drinking your bath water and go take a music lesson. The age is relevant; 16?! This is superb playing for 16. This guy gets a 10 from me because I know how difficult this comp is. Lot's of 5's, 7's and half note triplet subdivisions. This kid did an awesome job navigating the phrasing. Obit probably thinks hamburger comes from a pig. I'm impressed this young guy challenged himself to such a high degree. Keep practicing and maintain high goals for yourself.
led zep + rush makes for an excellent Zappa drummer! cool shirt Mike, nice sounding kit - you're on the right track (from this zep/rush/zappa fan) check out my videos ...
clearly you dont know much about zappa. or this song.
i do love the death metal, but metal drumming, deathmetal at least is mostly about technique and staminia. if you can hold a blast with fast double kicks for a long time you're in. This song takes a stupid amount of skill the learn and the play. well done dude!
You do realize this is a composition, right? It's not just a random drum solo...Your average death metal drummer, no matter how mindlessly fast they can play, would likely have a tough time nailing this peice. The fact that this kid is playing a composed piece of percussion music is far more impressive than some dick in corpse paint trying to sound like a jackhammer.
why death metal? that genre is only technique without feel or variance, anyone dumb enough to practice the same 2-3 patterns over and over can do death metal, thing is most of the drummers want more of their drumming experience.
i've read the comment of SPARDAKING from 3 mths age and all i can say is that he's PURE GELOUS and YOU ROCK !!! - keep up the good work and keep FZ as a practice guide

i clicked on this expecting to be blown away by a 16 year old playing the black page by animosity, and what i got was blown away by a 16 year old playing playing black page #2. good show.
lars ulrick's only drum accomplishment was keeping 4/4 time like ne other 12 year old can do... i will say he can do some good shit when he tries to, but he gets to much damn credit to just do simple beats... neil pert plays as many beats on the drum in one song as it takes lars to do 2 songs
avp715, how dare you insult lars ulrich, your clearly a metallica fan, you can't even spell it, you must be a retard, music taste and mentally, if you can't spell 'metallic' and add an 'a'

i wouldnt dare touch a zappa song until I had at least 10 years of drumming under my bealt. the fact you can nail something as tough as the black page at 16 is verging on godlike. very well done man!
This is a pretty good video of a drummer riffing on a Zappa standard (especially from 2:20 onward), but several fills you hear in this video are Terry Bozzio's from the "Baby Snakes" recording, which is being played in the background. (@SkataKPonos: There are technically two "Black Pages"—the second is a more beat-heavy version of the first.)
This performance isn't technically the composed drum part, but playing that would require a huge setup (see videos of Bozzio doing it). Still—nice chops!
No. The easy answer is two... sort of. The very first Black Page was a drum solo, written for Terry Bozzio. Once Bozzio could play it, Zappa augmented it with a melody (to the same basic rhythm) and chords, and that's "The Black Page, Part One, The Hard Version", as he puts it on Zappa In New York.
Well dude... you're already a good drummer. At this point it's just time for some advice to improve, because you're skilled enough to improve a lot. Your hand position on your sticks is a little low. You could gain a lot of precision and nasty control if you just move your fulcrum up an inch or two and grip the sticks a bit more. I think with that small bit of extra control you could shred some serious shit.
