  • Dude, i loop this with some of your other riffs for the gym... fuckin AAAAAA

  • Hear*

  • Revisiting the video that convinced me to get a Dano Pro, staying to here the amazing playing. I wish I could make mine sound like that ; )

  • your album is good, but you should play in a band. It sounds kinda lonely with just the guitar.

  • I could see ya Playing some old Kinks and Link Wray on this no doubt!! just add more reverb and some tremolo!!

  • nice trashy garage rock sound!! ugly as hell guitar though!

  • Like the tone and playing---I typically don't like odd-shaped guitar bodies but this one ain't so bad--kinda cool---like to hear you play blues on it---I love playing bluesy stuff myself

  • God damn, that is just the best fucking guitar tone.

  • nice playing, nice guitar, nice sweater

  • what's that first chord called? It's at 0:01

I use it sometimes, and I've seen other people use it as well, but have never found out the name.

  • @hazuinf just good ol' E major. You need to play all open strings and then hammer on the E to get the effect (no idea what that's called tho)

  • bit of class there mate nice one !

  • great playing as well man

  • I really want this guitar!!

Would you recommend it for a blues-garage-punk(ramones, etc.) sound?

Also, how's the lead/rhythm versatility? Is it strong in one and weak in the other? Equally strong in both? Thanks!

  • @hazuinf It would work well for that kind of application. Pair it with a good fuzzbox and you can get an authentic seeds/stooges/ramones tone.

I've sold it now but at the time I thought the strength of this guitar was the bridge pickup. The other positions were ok but i don't think they had enough character for rhythm but maybe that's just me.

  • @JohnnyFriendly

Cheers. What amp were you using here?

I'll keep that in mind, thanks again

  • @hazuinf Headstrong Lil King Reverb

  • @JohnnyFriendly cheers

  • Rad tone, man! Not many people appreciate the capo/open chords combination; it's underrated but it sounds great!

  • Hi, great stuff. Can you tell me what your basic amp settings are? I'm trying to get this sort of tone through my Dano DC and Vox. I've got the Mid turned up all the way but what else do I do? Thanks!

  • @hodgeko You'll need to dump the Vox and get a Headstrong Lil King

  • Would you reccomend a danelectro to get a Blues/Punk sound, like almost a Jack White type of sound?

  • @LzrdKng9000 I think so. The middle position would work well for that kind of application.

  • @JohnnyFriendly thank you. any model you'd reccomend me getting? This would only be my 2nd guitar since i've only been playing for a little bit

  • @LzrdKng9000 out of all of them, I reckon the best one is the U2 (single cutaway) followed by the DC2 (shorthorn). The shorthorn is more controlled, not as wild. Definitely look around for a U2. The middle position will absolutely nail the sound you're looking for.

  • @JohnnyFriendly thanks so much for responding back so quickly. i checked out a bunch of your vids and your guitar playing is awesome and i love your tone.

  • Cool vid bro, but why play garage through a $1600 boutique combo amp. This goes against everything what garage music is. Kick ass guitar playing none the less.

    Billy

  • @TeenageShutdown01 I totally agree with you. Totally. The problem is, if you want to get the sound that the old-timers got in today's world, you have to pay big, either for one of these or a real one.

But yeah, the irony isn't lost on me.

  • this is awesome and i love danos... but withe the sweater and background, i coulda sworn this was back in the 70's and u were jamming on an old silvertone (the brand that used to own dano)

  • There are human people who "dislike" this?!

  • does this guitar have a tremolo? If not can it be installed here?

  • its truly badass to play hot licks in a Christmas Sweater

  • @jactosentalerant69

True dat. Hope sarcasm wasn't implied

  • @hazuinf No it's a badass sweater. PERIOD

  • @jactosentalerant69 agreed, but I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic

  • Ah crap...Just when I was thinking my GAS had settled down I find this.....

  • love the sweater, nice playing too!

  • what is this colour?? i think i did not see this one in the current models list.. :/

  • i thought maybe* not mayne!

  • iv been thinking about getting a new guitar for ages and i think i found the one now , its really nice looking and sounding, going to start a surf rock band with my mates... one question... where did you find this one in yellow, ive been looking and i cant find a place.. i thought mayne that yours might not be a re issue and that they didnt re issue them in that couler?..... if you know different please direct me to an outlet.. are you in te UK?

nice playing too! raw as fuuuuck!

  • @swedeforlife2000 This one's actually peach but I think it looks yellow on some computer displays. They are out of production now so maybe ebay is the best option? This is a reissue - the originals came in only one color (chocolate sparkle or something)

Actually, I'd recommend getting a Jerry Jones instead but that's a whole 'nuther ball game entirely.

  • @swedeforlife2000 D A N G U I T A R S . C O M

  • This in incredible, well done!

  • do you use a treble booster?

  • Good sound. Bet there was no punk music back in 60's)

  • @Rogeras32 Not true

  • @Rogeras32 Ok - depends on how you define "Punk" but basically there was a big garage rock culture in the mid-'60s that came to be labelled as "Garage Punk" around 1972 and that sound became a big influence on the Pistols, Ramones, Damned etc.

So let's just say that the roots of Punk were hatched way back in this '60s in someone's garage/bowling alley in Michigan or somewhere.

  • @JohnnyFriendly what about iggy pop and the stooges

  • @JohnnyFriendly, garage rock/surf etc. - fine, agree. But it wasn't punk =) You may call it protopunk or something. Anyway, great guitar, vintage tone, nice playing!

  • @Rogeras32 Lou Reed invented Punk in the 60's but no one called it that back then.

  • @tombuttner so if no one did, how can you know it's punk?) lol Let's take The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967). Sounds to me like psychedelic rock, experimental etc. But it's still not punk, man!)

  • @JohnnyFriendly

Can you name me some Garage Punk bands? I love that sound...

  • @JohnnyFriendly 'So let's just say that the roots of Punk were hatched way back in this '60s in someone's garage/bowling alley in Michigan or somewhere.'

    Exactly! :)

  • @JohnnyFriendly Garage was invented in England not america, its all rooted from blues and rock 'n' roll which america shunned untill bands like the stones and the kinks played them making it garage rock,

  • @foodboom What about the Sonics who were around in the early 60s? Or a gazillion no-name instrumental combos that pre-dated the british invasion? Garage rock did exist in the US prior to the british invasion but the stones/kinks/pretty things etc gave it its primary influence. It would have existed without them but perhaps not as interesting.

I wouldnt categorise the UK bands as garage though. Too professional. True garage rock is sound of the amateurs that tried to emulate them.

  • @JohnnyFriendly and johnny rotten was an ealry hawkwind freak, he said if their was no (early) hawkwind, there would have been no sex pistols!, who would have thought that huh?

  • @Rogeras32 maybe in your district

  • Lovely Jumper!

  • this one is awesome,

more in a freakbeat than garage style ;)

  • MUST... HAVE... THE... SWEATER

  • nice sweater

  • what amp are you using

  • Very inspiring playing.Do you listen to the sonics?

  • @bobert995 fine band - i'd love to hear some bedroom troubadour do a cover of Boss Hoss on YouTube

  • Can you make any how to vids on how to play those riffs?

  • It looks like soething from Fred Flintstones xD

  • @blindstephen not exactly big records , but "kashmir" by led zeppelin was recorded on a danelectro .. not the one in the video though :)

  • @SicknesssDwellls How is Kashmir not a "big record"? I think everyone knows that song...

  • This guitar has that retro feel to it.

  • radical! you know what i'm using my capo for the first time now!

  • NICE SWEATER LOL BUT EVEN BETTER AXE!! TWANGS!!

  • @PhilFoxNJ I think its just the guitar/amp combination

  • @JohnnyFriendly Playing through a Headstrong Lil King Reverb can't hurt!

  • @JohnnyFriendly which is?

  • @JohnnyFriendly sarcasm ftw

  • cool

  • i've been fucked off nice sounds))

  • such a good garage sound man ! thks

  • dude this shit is groovin. need more music like this. love the 60's garage sound.

  • very nice indeed. What big records used dannelektro? I know Tinariwen use one now.

  • @blindstephen Not too sure about modern times. Danos had a high profile in the 60s (Monkees, Link Wray) and in the '50s (Howlin Wolf). The only people I can think of over the past 20 years are Southern Culture On The Skids and Beck.

  • @JohnnyFriendly I know Mark Knopfler uses one for slide work

  • @JohnnyFriendly and the bass player in NOFX

  • @blindstephen jimmy page on kashmir used a dc 59

  • @blindstephen John Lennon with the early Beatles used one as well.

  • @blindstephen Every record produced by the Apples in stereo had a Danelectro DC59. Great band if you haven't heard them.

  • Yeah, its one of life's mysteries. Disproves the old "you get what you pay for" adage.

  • What a shitty guitar ............... funny how it sounds AMAZING.

    nice vid, sick playing. I have 2 danos. a vintage "U" and a 2009 63' reissue.

    sweet pro :)

  • RAWWW!!!

Real classic sound with your Dan.

    Awesome!

  • is this actually the peach colour? cos i can't find it in orange anywhere?!?

  • Man! I love! I'm making a new guitar with a body from an old brazilian guitar, and the first thing I buy was two lipsticks! If you know what I mean...

    cheers

  • I wanted to throw a duncan hotrail in the bridge of my dano pro u2 does anybody know if this will work out without tons of modifications

  • Lad, lose the patterns :D

how does this guitar sound heavily distorted?

    and nice playing

  • @Willlikesludwig I've not pushed it too far distortion-wise since that's not really my style but I reckon it would sound boss with a good fuzzbox.

As for patterns, believe me, this was the LEAST offensive one in the store (which makes me regret not getting one of the others now)

  • i like your style and the sweater is bad ass

  • that guitar is amazing and your playing with it just inspired me even more to want one

  • is that some sort of sound proof wall behind you johnnyfriendly?

  • @shutdownthefed yeah, it is

  • @JohnnyFriendly it is rad as shit, did you make it? or can I buy it from somewhere? if you made it yourself, can you make me some wall pieces like that for my studio?

  • @shutdownthefed Unfortunately I don't have the talent to make stuff like this. I go to a rehearsal studio that has all this stuff built in.

  • How can anybody hate the sweater goes with the guitar great!

  • great playing and sound, but this guitar sounds just the same as a danelectro 59, the standard danelectro, or doesn't it?

  • @15381472 Frankly, you can get this kinda of sound out of any reasonably vintage-voiced single coil guitar. The real determining factor is the amp, IMO

  • reminds me alot of white stripes' tone

  • thank god people play like this on the internet still

  • Love the guitar and playing, hate the sweater

  • hey, do you know where can i find a left handed one?

  • @wasabihansen I don't think these were ever made as left-hands. What you could do , though, is buy a regular one and get a tech to re-configure it so that it plays left-handed.

  • @JohnnyFriendly i already own a left-handed like this, but it was a present from an uncle and now i'm unable to find another one so i can collect all colors, however, thanks for your suggestion

  • You nailed the vibe and feel of '60s garage rock. Reminds me of early Who.

  • i love danelectro guitars man. the tone is oustanding. to me at least. it also looks good!

  • a tele and a dano pro, what else do you have in stock? :)

  • @adidas331 Oh you know, the usual, another Danelectro here, couple of Gretsches there...

  • @adidas331 you have great taste, i've seen your tele and now this...rock on brother!!!

  • Collect em' all, like i try to do, i've just bought my third dano. :-)

  • You roooooool

  • does somebody here knows where to find this guitar in left-handed, i own one, but i want to collect one of each color, because it's a great guitar... i turned it into fretless and i use any kind of pedals so i can imitate the sound of a violin, banjo, mandolin, turntables and other instruments, no doubt, is a great guitar, so please could someone help me?

  • i like your style man, peace!

  • It's to fuckin awesome

  • Awesome guitar's, too bad i can't find anyone here..

  • Why do you always use a capo? They suck for bending. Don't you know bar chords?

  • Barre chords sound different to playing open with a capo. With a capo, you can really alter the feel of the music which you can't really do any other way. Plus I just think capos are more fun - I find barre chords boring to play.

As for bending, I'm not really into that. And it's a bit hard to do when you've got 11 gauge strings on and all.

  • really inspiring.

  • very raunchy (in a good way)

  • Which amp do you use and do you use any effects/pedals or not??

  • Headstrong Lil King reverb, no effects

  • Why isnt there tape around the edges like other reissues ive seen? Also, are you sure its the peach model, because it looks awfully yellow?

  • what the hell is that jumper

  • what ever ur playing-it sounds awesome..nice!

  • eeeeeeekkk my ears are bleeding

  • everything about this video is classic

  • Brilliant sound. I've been trying to nail that style...Pebbles Sound Tracks, Sonics, 13th Floor Elavators, The Seeds..have failed with mostly Fender Amps, Guitars & a selection of Hollowbodys. What's the secret ? haha

  • ha ha...wish I knew. I'd put it in a bottle & sell it

  • I dig your style. Nice attitude. So many of these videos on youtube are so wanky and diddly-dee, but you play with the right touch. Rock and roll should be a little rough around the edges, and you got it.

  • Thanks, bro'.

Fortunately, I don't have the ability to play the wanky stuff

  • YEAH DUDE!!! you Wail!!! This is my favorite kind of rock 'n roll Awesome job dude!!! Have you played the dead on 67's, do they posess this kind of vibe and tone???

  • I haven't played that model but most of the ones I have have a similar aura so you should be ok.

Always best to try one out in person though

  • I think Danelectros has kind of ugly colours. But that only makes them more beautiful,

  • Unfortunately they didnt have this guitar in the stores anymore, i couldnt be arsed and i bought myself a Vintage v6, love the guitar, but as soon i see this video again, i feel like saving up money for a Danelectro Pro. However.. im also saving up for a Hofner HCT 500 bass.. Oh man i wish i could buy tons of guitars..

  • lol thats kinda like what im doing,i saved up all my money from working as a night watchman last summer and bought the hoff 500/1 and i just ordered my de dano today!also the 70's show reference with captain poo face, very nice, you got good taste my man!

  • Haha, brilliant. You are probably the first person who knows my name is a refrence to That 70's show! Tuesday is my birthday, and im getting the Hoff 500/1! Idem ditto my friend, you have some good taste : D

  • I grew up in the sixties and I can remember lots of guitars sounding like that!

  • These danos are ace, they've got class and soul - got me one just the same. Unfortunately my playing can't match the class & soul on display here.

  • super 60 style!!!

  • What colour is your guitar? I'm thinking about getting the same one!

  • Peachy

  • Looking at getting one of these guitars. Would you recommend? They seem too cheap to be good but they have a good vintage sound. what do you say ?

  • Not sure if you got my earlier reply, but basically, thing you need to remember is that solid bodies don't cost much money to make and so you shouldn't let low cost influence your decision. In the case of Dano's, they are cheap because the materials they are made of are. They sound good because bizarrely those same cheap materials sound good together in this design.

Bottom line: money isn't always a relevant factor in the guitar world. I'm sure you'll be very happy with one of these

  • Wicked! Well that was pretty Helpful thanks man. Just gotta pick a colour now !

  • i love your tone here! whats your settings on?

  • Unfortunately, I can't remember. It's the bridge pickup though

  • As in by The Remains? I've never tried but thanks for the idea. Let me turn it around in my head a little while

  • These danos are fantastic, cheap and great to play - nice to see someone making the best of one. If you like this check out The Reigning Sound album Too Much Guitar.

  • WELL DONE!

  • That guitar looks like a freaking squished square.

    That's awesome.

  • Incredible! Put out a CD or start a band. Does your Headstrong Lil King Reverb Have a 10" or 12" speaker? What model speaker does the amp have?

  • This one's a weber ceramic 12" (not sure of the model number)

  • WOW!

  • nice playing.. bulls eye... got any recommendations for some bands with your sound/style??

  • hmm...not sure. Guess you'd have to go back 40 years or so. I'm inspired by Nuggets comps, Remains, Seeds etc if that's any help

  • Man that's a hot pickup.

  • wow!! i'm not sure what fucking rules harder.. the sweater, the guitar, or your skrills! goodgood shit! are you in a band or anythign that i should check out?

  • Nah, no bands - but you never know, maybe one day.

Either that or maybe I'll learn some more instruments to broaden these out a bit.

  • and btw that sweater is JUST as legit.

  • Ha ha...thanks! I'm not sure if it goes with the peach though. Wish they'd reissue the pro in its original colour (diarrhea sparkle)

  • This guitar is fuckin LEGIT... wow.

what a badas git. fuck i cant over it. 300 bones for this baby. this is just SCREAMING for a few "home remedies" a lâ custom paint, knobs, etc... perfect for that frankenstein beater guitar that come from outer space. man id put like 7 different colors on that bitch.

  • This guitar sounds so intense and thick even though it's under $300

  • Future generations are going to be staggered that we could get such great sounding guitars for such measly outlay.

  • how long did it took U to learn to play like that?

Where did U learn to play like that?

    Amazing !

    Awesome!

    Gratz m8, that was Pro!

  • ha ha...thanks! V.nice comment.

Basically, all you need is to learn some basic chords, listen to loads of '60s garage records and experiment. The ideas will come.

  • Awesome, well played, sounds good.

  • Very cool Dano and licks !

  • Really cool, & nice sweat!
