well spotted!... the smaller chimney is fixed to the brick work i then made another chimney slightly bigger which slides over the fixed one ( detachable ) this means i can put a cover over the whole oven in the winter without the tall part of the chimney. good luck with the build its hard work but definitly worth it.
I notice that the chimney height changes at about 1min 26s in the video - was there a reason for this? Love the oven and you've more than inspired me to eventually get around to doing my own one this spring. I'll doing one about the same size as yours. Cheers - JD.
cool, i'm inspired. the snow reminds me of weather here in Montreal. So I guess i need to research this a bit but I always wanted to build one ot bake bread and to bake pizza. I have seen chimneys placed in front, middle and back, I need to do some reading on that too, what did you discover on this point?.
wow thats a superb oven , you,ve done an excellent job constructing it, , my old sicilian grandfather seen this footage and he said mamma mia che bravo which is a great compliment. , I can now smell a lovely pizza or freah loaf of bread coming out of your oven. bon appetito enjoy best wishes.
I want to build one, but I have lots of questions. Here's one for you. What's the advantage/disadvantage of a dome shaped oven over an barrel shaped oven?
Hey buddy thanks for the response re bricks etc cheers for that!
Just out of interest what size is your base, and what are the dimensions of the dome? Does it fit a nice big pizza in it!? Cheers, my plans are now coming together!
Hey mate can you tell me the type of bricks/blocks you used for the base? Also what did you use for the insulation/dome? I'm looking to build something similar in Buckinghamshire but have no idea about masonry etc! Many thanks, good job by the way it looks great!!
Use white schamotte or adobe (you'll need a lot but ist very cheap). bricks are crap. they cant withstand repeated heating and cooling for a long time without cracks. bricks are not match for schamotte in term of heat keeping and insulation capacity. a good wood oven is made of schamotte.
Hello. My girlfriend is busting my ass to make a pizza oven. I love yours, it's fantastic. One thing that concerns me is can you use it when it's raining? Thanks, Richard in Essex
Summer Spring Winter with Snow..... I saw you worked hard towards your Goal.... Wish you have lovely pizza full of bowl.... Secret of pizza oven pleases your soul.... I LOVE YOUR OVEN... Welldone.
Hello,, I am in the process of building my brick pizza oven,, your video was very interesting.. about how many firebrick did you use for the dome (top) ?
no they dont flake at all any house brick will do the heavier the better just cos theres less air in them to expand when it gets hot but they all take the heat
Finally somebody made a short video of a brick oven! I am planning to make one on my backyard to save money and energy. Nice, short down to the point video!
Nice video. We enjoyed it after making our clay oven in just a few days. there is a good pizza recipe on a web site called undergroundhousewife for clay or brick ovens.
any wood is fine... off cuts, logs even twigs! ash burns quick and oak is slow. try and use seasoned wood as the sap can ooze out on the brick floor. i use about 1/2 a wheel barrow of logs and that does an evening...the oven is still hot 24hrs later
this was my biggest worry before i started,i used a 1 lime 1 cement 4 sand mix (by hand) its a really good mix have had 11 full on firings and its rock solid would be really interested to hear how you get on.
Really cool video

Hi, What's the internal diameter of your oven ? was looking at the forno bravo plans and they are for 36" internal but yours doesn't look that big.
The reason I ask is I'm short on space for my oven and was trying to figure out what the smallest I could get away with.
Thanks

It looks like an igloo. It's really an achievement to bake a pizza in a self-made oven. Like it!

@larry9247 there isnt really it might take longer top heat with a barrel but would probably hold the heat longer

Well good choice as refractory bricks are not all that great healthwise.
ririshow 2 years ago
Did you use regular bricks for the oven floor. No crackings?
ririshow 2 years ago
@ririshow yes just regular bricks are fine just nice and flat. and dont cement them down or point them in, then they will have room to expand.

thanks! no, wouldnt change a thing and it still works great. no cracks.

How did you make the concrete top? Is it sitting on wood that you leave in there? I'm about to construct one too, any advise would be great.

Hello,
i noticed you set the fire in the oven before you rendered.Any reason why?
Cheers.
dolcevita4me 2 years ago
yes, just a gentle fire to drive out any moisture as i didnt want it trapped behind the insulation layer

Very nice indeed and the 'nearest' one to what I'd like to build. May I ask a couple questions?
1. Did you use 'fire bricks' or normal bricks?
2. How much insulation did you put over it?
I'd love to see it close up ... Mick
