This song is really good. I remembr listening to siouxsie when i was a lil grl cuz of my parents n im stil listening to her. Her music is so great ill nevr stop. Frm. Ms shadows
I`m so greatfull for the BBC sessions, as all the songs seem to have a better quality. All instruments (and voice) come out with such brilliance. however, Mc Geoch did`nt seem to use the "gizmo" on this version.
Each performance I experience from Siouxie & co. leaves me more amazed. I was a little young to be "allowed" to listen to this stuff during the '80's (preteen), or to appreciate it properly. Powerful, lovely, terrible (in the original sense!) music. Beats the hell out of (shudder)
Gaga and such. Plus if you look beneath the makeup, she's even more incredible looking!
Recently went through my vinyl to see what I could sell because Im out of work and things are tight . Found Souxsie and the banshees "the scream " "Dear Prudence , E.P. " and the peel sessions , but I don't seem to have all the stuff thats showing up now !
@baldur1377 The "flame" comment was light hearted. I've loved Siouxsie and Robert's music most of my life so I guess I'd be classed as a fan. But some fans take their shit ultra serious and start flaming you if they think you are criticising their idols. You know the sort of person I mean?
I'm pretty sure Robert got his look from her. Siouxsie & Steven claim that Robert's use of lipstick started when they were at a club, Robert asked to borrow Siouxsie's lipstick and returned wearing it. Robert's thoughts on the matter are quite different, Robert: "No, I wore lipstick at school. I copied my lipstick from my mum, not Siouxsie, although there are similarities between the two. I've worn make up to varying degrees since I was 13, but I do wear less now than I used to."
@VlogKing i dont know ,but i think of Robert Smith as a man with a good sense of humor, and telling lies in interviews are part of that. His lipstick is on the outsides of the liplines for a reason, i would like to think of as a symbol of how we look should not matter in any ways. A kind of "i dont care how i look, look" but he is an artist and he does something creative about it, something that makes the whole package of art The Cure is, even stronger.
@VlogKing ...so i dont think he got the idea of using lipstick from Siouxsie nor his mother. I don't think mom's in England wore lipstick that way... but a good joke from him, to put that visual on our minds.
@pernillc it was 1979 and siouxsie and the Banshees released Join Hands....the Cure was into a forest but a lot of maleees wore lipostick 'cos of Bowie or Japan and the inevitable Kabuki theatre connection...personnally, I don't remeber R' Smith wearing lipstick until '83 at the earliest.....by which time Steve Strange, Duran Duran and the Spandau Ballet stuff had come and gone and been forgotten so the speculation can cease...but hey ...even I forgot Pete Burns and Nightmares in Wax
@Mr1ROYHUGHES Yeah she has better legs than Robert though! The Cure were one of the greatest bands in the charts in the 80's for sure.
In the 90's I used to go in a pub in Victoria and they had the full version of "A Forest" on the jukebox. When I put it on you could see the (Australian) bar staff saying "WTF?" to each other then sneakily turning the volume up!
I got it on the Banshees & Other Creatures Forum. Someone had posted it in the "Band Related Discussion" area. There are over 60 pages on that forum so it will take forever to find but if I see it again, I'll probably remind you.
so sad that i just learned of her...where have i been all these years...love this!

I mean this with all due respect in the world, but Siouxsie looks like a member of KISS in that photo.
Btw, I love the strong emphasis on the guitars in this version, compared to the album version.

Question (don't flame me because I love Siouxsie) Did Robert Smith get his "look" from her or vice versa?

@VlogKing Interesting, thanks. I suppose it's obvious when you think Siouxsie pretty much looked this way by 1978 but Robert didn't

According to Robert, he copied using lipstick from his mum, but he probably modified Siouxsie's use of lipstick on himself.
