very,very awesome! this is really a distinct style of kali for me!!!!!!! the move on 1:20 is really cool but i guess must be really hard to execute in actual fight & takes a lot of guts & expertise to do so. The move on 1:50 is really clever haha. But the move on 1:55 is something really i do not want to to be done to me...Oh My God! no,no! haha

Awesome clip! I got the chance to meet GM Yuli in Manila last 2006, he is a down-to- earth individual, a real humble person, and a true master of the art.

GM Yuli is like poetry in motion, very smooth. regards to the Bahad Zubu/Romo Clan.

It's a training "drill"!

If the check / monitoring hand does not come out to meet it it will turn into a slash. So view it as a "Feint" / "Set-up".

No energy is wasted as in reality if there's no check hand it's over. There's many "options" which all turn out badly for the guy meeting the initial knife attack.

I'd suppose you'd slash along a line from your shoulder to your waist...lol!

Isn't the distance a bit short for set-ups knowing he may thrusts in a straight line? And if he reallizes he has not have to worry about direct attacks he will have two free hands and could move inside....

Character limits restrict long replies but no way can he move inside. In reality the attack is not 2 beats. If he moves insides and doesn't check he will get cut. If he thrusts his energy is spent. The distance is not short as the slash is done with the appropriate footwork.

A 2 year old with a bread knife can make the attack you're describing. A skill is trying to be learnt here.

He could not move inside even if knows the footwork and has appropriate upper and lower body mechanics to move also in one beat?...I am not that convinced. I can appreciate your and Yuli Romo's use of good upper body mechanics.I just notice your elbow is very vulnerable to manipulation if he moves a little nearer when it is facing him.Yuli'sknife also goes very near your left thigh. Is there also a reason that he keeps on attacking below your arms? BTW nice to shoot the clip at slow speed.

So, you're telling me if somebody slashes you then the best method is to go forward on the "inside"?.

@ChiefLapuLapu Its a drill dipshit. Its designed to teach principles of motion, not the necessarily actual strikes and counters. I study a different FMA and I can see that easily. Perhaps if you give up your Lapu Lapu fantasy camp BS and start training, you will too.
