It isn't a gospel song, but Smith has some gospel influence, so it has a spiritual influence, at least.  It's a song about finding yourself, wanting to be rescued, and the pain many of us feel. In a way, though, you feel like he is asking God for guidance. He is talking to someone, a higher power. It would fit someone from any religion, Christian or not.

Everyone's religious. Even if it's self-religion. If one wants people to like him/her or doesn't want to lose a part of their being (like posessions, family, friends, life), always exerpting some control to prevent such things, then it is a scientific fact that that person has a god complex. The video is deceiving (like so many Christian/Pop videos of the time) as its not a love song to a woman. It's a prayer to G-d asking for help to find his place in this world. Notice the lyrics:

Yes, I read all the lyrics and sang them 10's of times. The video is deceiving, why? It's surely a love song to another person if you watch the video without sound, isn't it?

That was the basis for my comment! I just feel human love dampens the meaning of this song and that is why when I went from watching a fan video (with nature scenery and beautifully/inspirationally done) to this original video, I felt like I fell down some flight of stairs.
