  • That's not gold my man.

  • great vid makes me wanna be a gold digger ,but aint got no money one day maybe lol

  • lol none of that was gold, gold doesn't sparkle or shine...it was probably pyrite.and those places salt the rivers with worthless flakes of gold.

  • there always has to be a negative person in the bunch. just can't be happy with anything. Typical!

  • I grew up in Idaho Springs, and went to the Phoenix mine quite a bit as a kid. Really wonderful place and very nice people.

  • i went there with parents.. found a few flakes but not much. Still a lot of fun tho!

  • I visited this mine on my travels in Colorado. It is as good as it looks. Very Very nice people here.

  • this is a good video . well done . i'm going to colorado next year and that mine is on my hit list . i hope theres a hotel or bunk house . lol

  • This mine just moved into the Top 5 of my list of places I'd like to visit some day. Thanks for a very nice video!

  • Cool vid!

Thanks for my first look at a real gold mine.

  • I worked here with my brother and my dad a few years back, we all left because the place went so far down hill, all the tour guides now live in crappy campers or tents just up the road. all of the guides are not nice, they beg for tips, there are signs that say our miners work for tips, which is true but a tourist should not feel obligated to tip the guide even if it was a good tour. although it is the the only real mine in Colorado you can go into. dont waste your time with the Argo.

  • oh and it is not solar powered, there is a generator, there is one solar panel that powers the office and thats it.

  • When i was here in 2007 our tour guide smeeled like a distillery. If you wanna see a real mine o to Cripple Creek, Colo. and tour the Mollie Kathleen mine. There you can ride a skip down to a shaft 1000 feet underground.

  • 5 star video.

    Simply amazing.

The cloest I ever came to something like this was seeing an out of commission cival war copper mine in CT.

As a coin collector I have several ounces of silver, but not a speck of gold. I have always wanted to pan for gold and be able to buy an old 20 dollar coin coin. Some day I hope to.

Glad you got to have the expierence.

  • Is Al still alive? I was there in 93. The year the Papal staff was there. Climbed down the ladder in the "Winds" tunnel, that was steep.

    Wonderful place to experience.

  • Very nice vid. Idaho springs, is it? Here I come. How high should I take my second mortgage to loan for the trip? And can I ask for a loan in the USA?

  • cool vid

  • Very interesting but the person who chose that "music" should be sent to Guantanamo.

  • Sorry you disapprove.

  • Don't sweat it mate. I was only going for a laugh. Peace and luck to you.

  • Great Video!!!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • very intresting stuff, thanks for posting!

  • Thanks.

  • do you get to keep the gold?

  • Yes... :)

  • So have you got any idea how much gold you actually made off with from that place? You know, i am sure you could put some servo's and a RX on that tractor and do womething with it lol

  • Ha ha ha.. I'm laughing out loud about the tractor.

I probably got about $50 worth, if I was to melt down the stones and extract the gold.

  • are the tunnels at the beggining outside of cody wyoming? if they are, thats just amazing because i live about 60 miles east of cody in deaver.

  • Yes, I think so. This mine is in Idaho Springs. It is the only operating gold mine around, so maybe you might like to go see it. Tell them you saw it on Youtube and you might get a bonus???

  • Dave,

Very interesting. did you just make the trip recently or just get around to posting it. Looks like quite a bit of snow.

    papadewey221

  • Thanks kindly. Nope, just did it 3 weeks ago.

  • Dave,

Very fun. Colorado has always been my favorite vacation place. In the 80's I was a practicing geologist. I'll bet a fair amount of that gold is pyrite :)

    Fun none the less.

    Jeff

  • Thanks. This particular vein was not Pyrite, as the owner would easily prove. It was fun. I like Colorado too. Went to the Coors Brewery for a tour...(video coming soon), and that was fun.

  • My 1st trip to Denver was in '82 when Coors was advertising heavily about "Rocky Mountain spring water". i remember driving through Golden and seeing the plant from a distance. It hardly brought to mind good things. I hope they improved the image.

    Jeff

  • Well, when I make the video, you will see. I thought it was clean, and fun.

  • How do they extract the gold from those rocks?

  • The heat it up so hot, the gold melts.

  • they are lucky i dont live near!!

  • Ha ha ha.

  • I found a 6 oz nugget last year.. only took 2 hours to guess i was lucky.. still have it too..

  • Great vid Dave. I just want the 5 million dollar pillar. It'd be tough to live on, but if I pinched my pennies, I'll bet I could make it last a while. LOL

  • Thanks. I'll gladly help you pinch those pennies!!

  • Well that was different Prof. Hebert, err, Dave. Mines are kinda cool (no pun intended). I once visited a silver mine in mountains west of San Diego. Interesting, dangerous work. One has never truly experienced darkness until they turn out the lights while in a mine!

  • Thanks much. I appreciate it. I like the dark too, for sure, being the Nightflyyer. It sure was dark in there.

  • wow, ive never seen a gold mine before, its quite amazing if u think about it, u was just looking at $5 million gold there, i would love to have that in my room! :)

great vid dave :) thanmk you, as always :)

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

  • theres gold in then there hills! your going to start another goldrush lol.that widow maker makes moving pianos seem eazy.

  • Ha ha. Thanks.

  • That is very cool. So you drived? Just last weekend I was watching something on TV about free gold panning.

  • Yes, I drove. It was fun.

  • How much money did you get?If you saved it how much do you think u got?

  • I would bet there was about $50 in the big rock I got.

  • I hope I can travel around and do cool things like you one day again.

  • Thanks... You will. Just set some goals.

  • wow i want free gold! lol

  • bet you got lots of flakes in that hey it all adds up

  • At $930 per ounce, it sure does.

  • i found a 6 oz nugget last year.. only took 2 hours to find guess i was real lucky.. still have it too..

  • nice vid, goldstories are always good;)

    OzzYBladeZ

  • That is really cool Dave. Great video. I love Gold history..Living here in Sacramento, Ca there is A LOT of gold history, and I just love it. Its so neat to look out over the American River and think in 1849 the river banks were full of 49'ers...Its just cool history, my fav time period! Looks like you guys had a blast(no pun)

  • where in phoenix?

  • ??? It is called the Phoenix Mine in Idaho Springs, Colorado, as stated in the video and the description beside it.
