This is my favorite wrestling moment but unlike everybody else I'm not going to wish for the attitude era guys to come back. Time passes, things change, but they don't have to be bad. Yes the wwe fell into a slump but it's starting to get out of it and it's young guys like punk Ryder and Sheamus who can help make it better, there honestly not much any of those old guys can do, their time in the slotlight is up and the good ones like Mick foley and hbk know it
@toadman842 it's right up there with triple h's pop at msg after returning from injury and cm punk's money in the bank pop, even though it was his hometown
It's pretty pathetic WCW was getting so fucked up at that time. WCW rating will never be the same when they annoucned that mankind was going to win the title.
Classic wrestling days, the fans didn't mind to be the Rock because he was the heel. Nowadays, you don't see fans just so in tune with the storyline.
BTW, so happy for Mick. He didn't have all championship reigns but he, IMO, was the superstar who laid it all on the line for us. Even though the Rock, Austin, DX and Undertaker get all the notoriety for the Attitude Era, it wouldn't have been the same without Mankind.
Mick Foley truly deserved it,I was a kid when this happend and I was so bloody happy...and disapoited in Shavoine on what he said, and I like Shavoine....but all the hard work in WCW,Mexico,Japan,Germany....Mick came full circle...he is still from this day my top 5 (no Booker T pun lol)
This is unequivocally the best pop/best return I have ever seen. I remember watching this live and hoping that Stone Cold would come back during this match. I had a smile on my face the whole week after this happened, just thinking about it. It's hard to believe to this day that it still gives me goosebumps hearing the glass shatter every time I see this match. WWF, you are sorely missed.
@Whaloman I have to ask, do you think they turn down the volume of the crowd during WWE TV these days? Not even the Rock's return last year was this loud, and it should have gotten a thunderous pop. I was at Summerslam last year and the crowd went nuts for CM Punk, but when I saw the PPV replay, the crowd seemed much quieter than they did live.
no, it's generally louder when you're actually in the arena, one of my friends went there and had to cover his ears. If you had been to this arena live your ears would have been traumatized.
@Whaloman I have to agree this was the best pop because there were only 15 thousand in attendance that night compared to the 40 thousand in the Georgia Dome when Goldberg beat hogan and the sound was still deafening.
I dont follow wrestling anymore but this one will always stick to my mind. It was excellently put on as a show and on a real-life level noone ever deserved that more than Mick Foley, one of the greatest of all times. Damn i miss that era :(
"At the risk of not sounding very cool... I just want to dedicate this match to my two little guys at home and say ... BIG DADDY-O DID IT!"
This was Michael Francis Foley's biggest, wildest dream, and what do you know... he did it. Still, he has four world title reigns and yet he knows, the four best things he's done are named Dewey, Noelle, Mick Jr. and Hugh. Him, Owen, Eddie, Rey and Chris Jericho too, they have it right.
i have old VHS tapes of every raw from like 97 to early 00 and every monday night i popp them in my old vcr to play for my nephew so he wouldnt be subjected to the pg 13 bullshit of now....what will i do when it runs out? .....ill pop in wcw nitros LOL.
@lukecfcfan95 Yeah and considering on the same night Mick won the title Hogan won the title back with the "Fingerpoke of Doom" that says it all about where the two companies were going.
@lukecfcfan95 I think it was Tony Schiavone who, when he read that on the air, said with sracasm, "Yeah, that'll put some butts in the seats." Yes, Tony, it did!!!!
Today we have wrestlers like Daniel Bryan, The Miz, Zack Ryder, Jinder Mahal, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Wade Barrett... ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?!?!?!
THIS IS THE REAL Wrestling!!! WWE today is embarrassing!! Kevin Nash, Mick Foley, Triple H, Undertaker, and Kane are the only Risk taking wrestlers who can bring back the Violence and get rid of PG :|
those were the days..back when the wwf title meant something, back when there was blood, back when there were more then 5 matches on a card, back when the 1st match of the night could have been the best match of the night, back when the crowd cheered for every face wrestler, back when there were actual wrestling matches not "entertainment" matches
i want WWF Attitude ERA back in 2012, but we have progress Mick Foley is back, Masked Kane is back and is finally feuding with Cena and Kevin Nash feuding with Triple H, Rock competing against Cena at WM 28 and maybe Jeff and Matt Hardy will return or Stone Cold will face CM Punk or Undertaker having is ABA gimmick back at RR 12
@kardzfn21- A thing like cm punk screwing the miz or heel maybe 2012 when john cena turned heel he will be better for that. And underdog / crowd favorite zach ryder nobody will think that will happen like mankind. That will be awesome to see. I just want some awesome shit to happen on raw. Recreate this will help bring unexpected shit to happen. I want ppl to thing back what a awesome raw
@kardzfn21- no im saying somehow wwe has to redo this type of raw . Like if miz was champion and thinks no way zach ryder can beat him. Zach ryder wins the title. Im not comparing anybody now to the past. I want some crazy shit that is so awesome.
Right now they should that like mankind is zach ryder, the rock is the miz, and steve austin is cm punk if they did that sometime in 2012 that will be awesome
@jorgeascurra32 -Me, I've always said Everybody is a different person can they have things a like? SURE & right now- Zack Ryder has alot of characteristics like Mankind main 1 being-They are/were underdogs, dunno if The Miz is like The Rock yet but he is so annoying he's a great WWE heel, CM Punk like Austin? Defying athority ok but no one can be S.C.S.A. I'll tell you who they never should have gotten rid of-John Morrison he reminded me of a young HBK & I've been watching wrestling for 20 yrs
This was the fateful night, in which WCW's Tony Schiavone(possibly under orders from Eric Bischoff) revealed that Mick was going to win the title. As soon as he made that statement, 600,000 (some say up to a million) TV's switched from Nitro to Raw. Talk about a self inflicted wound, it started a chain reaction. Many believe what happened this night was one of the main things that sealed the fate of WCW, or was one of the fatal blows at least that helped kill it.
THE greatest moment in the monday night wars surpassing even Flair's return in 1998, Austin's first stunner on McMahon, and Goldberg winning the title...
Good old times when wwe had good ratings, the arena where always full, the superstars where all awesome, the babyface gotted huge pop because they deserved it and the topheel boed as hell, cena and brandy boilton weren't there....and there were NO fucking lil'jimmies that makes me want to kick their heads off, and especially......there were no flashy fruity peebles in the crowd
Seriously, this is one of the greatest memories of the good ol' days of the WWF. I get chills every time I hear that glass break, the resounding crowd reaction, the ONE....TWO...THREE...Never before or again will there be a crowd that was THIS into a match, with THIS kind of reaction. It's a truly legendary moment of the WWF.
i miss this king. he made commentating hilarious. i do however find it hilarious when michael cole interupts the divas matches no matter how many people slag him for it.
Well WCW could have used better tactics. If it was me I would have said "Ladies and gentlemen we only have the best in our sport unlike the other league who have the rejects that couldnt make it here in WCW."..Or "Ladies and gentlemen we dont have our main events finish up with cheap chair shots and 45 minutes of talking we only have the best and the best is the action right here on WCW Monday Nitro."Anything but giving the ratings away. That was stupid on there part.
This is the greatest moment in WWF history. As a teen in the late 90s this was about as perfect as it could get. Just watch the crowd reaction once the glass shatters. Perfect
To me, one of the classic things of this was the King hitting a falsetto screaming "NO, NO, NO" while the ref is counting the 3 count. Lawler is great at color commentary.

i miss this king. he made commentating hilarious. i do however find it hilarious when michael cole interupts the divas matches no matter how many people slag him for it.

I just watched the tribute video for Foley the night after Triple H retired him at No Way Out.
I just had to double check that it really was an ecstatic Triple H celebrating with Foley when he won the title...

Cole sounds like he's in the middle of puberty. Idiot then, Idiot now.

This is the greatest moment in WWF history. As a teen in the late 90s this was about as perfect as it could get. Just watch the crowd reaction once the glass shatters. Perfect

I would die happy if I saw another match with reactions like this.

To me, one of the classic things of this was the King hitting a falsetto screaming "NO, NO, NO" while the ref is counting the 3 count. Lawler is great at color commentary.

@TheDamned999 haha WWF was smart about how they slammed WCW. WCW basically told their viewers to change the channel.
