I love my dad with all my heart, but if I wasn't Michael Joseph Harris Jr, I'd want this man (Rest Plush) to be my dad, straight up, on some real stuff...
this is just beautiful as a young niner fan myself and my dad being an old niner fan i have researched and seen the 49ers in the walsh era and i have never seen an offense that affective (or effective im not sure :P) in any other situation and i have seen way more than someone my age should
The NFL is why it is today because of the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL is a pass first type of league. This all started from the "West Coast Offense" developed by the genious Bill Walsh (R.I.P). No wonder why players such as Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are the greatest QB and WR. The NFL has evolved and finally caught up.
How in the hell could anyone think Bill Belichick is in the same class as this guy. He gave George Seifert a Maserati........ for free. I give Bill Walsh credit for 4, not 3 SuperBowls. Greatest ever!
Walsh was running drills back in the day that improved accuracy, and some people thought he was crazy. He was running Drills with Collins and told him to '"throw the ball softly". Collins didnt understand, but he kept trying until B.walsh liked it. When he was able to consistently hit his target, but softly, B.walsh told him" Thats how you become accurate"! It wasnt until later in Collins career, that he realized B.walsh knew what alot of other coaches didnt.
Another example was when Aikman was throwing to J.Rice in probowl practice. J.Rice ran a simple comeback route and Aikman felt that he threw the ball to earlly, and it was going to Rice in the face. Turns out J.Rice turned just in time to catch the ball and seemlesly turned to sprint up field. Thats was when Aikman eyes opened up to how good J.Rice was, and the presicion and timing of which the 49ers offense was ran.
Can you imagine Mike Singletary ever being as clear and descriptive as Bill Walsh is in this video? Singletary was nothing more than a jive talking street preacher, while Walsh was a REAL coach. Big difference.
I can't but think how good Alex Smith would've been if he had the tutelage of Bill Walsh. Montana was very raw when drafted by the Niners. He was, however, a winner. And so he listened and learned and then led the Niners to greatness. The so-called "West Coast Offense" is best described as "Keep it simple, stupid" (KISS) and effective -- High percentage plays that puts your team in command. Niner's best defense was a ball-control offense that kept their opponent's offense off the field.
We went from the late and great Bill Walsh's West Coast offense, which was the premier offense for decades and destroyed opposing defenses; to the Mike Singletary "don't know when to take a timeout offense/ run it up the middle offense" which is like watching two senior citizens racing each other in wheelchairs.
@spectre0075 How old are you? 12. Smith needs to learn these techniques, because obviously he has NO ONE there on the coaching staff that understands and can teach this. His days as a niner are winding down.At least B.W. would have kept Garcia as QB,because he's the coach that brought him to the NFL.By the way,B.W. can still out coach anyone in the niner staff, even through video.I've been a niner fan since 78,and now I don't even reconize anything about the niners today, players or coaching.
rule changes in the late 70's really is what made the west coast o sucessful, offensive lineman had better ways of blocking, which allowed the quarterback and offenses to open up.

@snakenavel I agree. I think young qb's could take some hint's from this, as some i feel develop bad habits.

I love this! I could watch this all day. Bill Walsh (until Don Coryell came along) was the greatest Innovator of Offense I've ever seen.

No one knew quarterbacks like Bill Walsh.
Joe Montana, Steve Young and others were lucky to have him for a coach.
The man was a genius.
