I dont think these gys read the book/poem. They compare it to 300 which was based off a modern graphic novel and doesnt really have anything in common with it. The fact of the matter is that this movie was a very decent interpretation of the epic tale and an enjoyable film from the get go.

I thought it was good. I watched another version with all real people that was also good. I remembered the name of Grendel from when I was a little kid and saw the other one titled: Beowulf & Grendel. And I had to check it out.

I want to read the story as well.

But as far as this one goes, I like animation. They could've left out all the sex crap and it would have been a better movie. Another testament against Hollyweird.

absolutely ruined an amazing epic timeless story that I personally have loved since childhood, and inspires the swords that I forge today.

Its a story that has so much potential for film and they turned it into an immature video game...

thankfully the true story of beowulf lives on in writing. and hopefully when this movie dies off one day, someone can bring it to film the way it was made to be!

I agree with your criticism about the story line in 300, aka the comic. But as a movie trying to bring to life Frank millers book, I think they did a great job.

The criticisms of plot should be aimed at Frank Miller not Zack Snyder.

But in saying that, Beowulf was a much better movie.

i disagree, many parts of 300 and Beowulf were completely ridiculous. Beowulf's creators at least had the sense of humor to recognize it and keep going. 300 was unintentionally funny. There is a huge difference, and its worth bringing up in a review. You are also right that in some places, the animation was great. In others, such as women's faces, it was not.

for me it was hypocritical to throw babies off cliffs and then utter cries of freedom and liberty. expecting us to have any sympathy for these stubborn jackasses and their "glory" was ridiclous. plus all the stuff with the harem and the humpback were pretty silly, as well as the entire subplot back home with Leonidias' wife.

If you didn't think the animation looked like the levels between video games, then you ween't paying attention. The "hair on the nose" comment was a compliment, saying that this was a step up. No, "300" was not a comedy, but something to lighten its leaden mood would have been nice. "Beowulf" was better than "300" because it lacked that movie's self-importance and -seriousness.

i was paying attention, i do play alot of video games, my point is, if ur going to compare beowulf to a videogame....i think that is obvious because they are both...well computer generated. so to me it just doesnt make much sense, because that same would have to be said about toy story ect...then u can compare it to lord of the rings,and every other sword and sorcery type film. i just dont think the review was very comprehensive.

What is Grendel? I can tell that they really read the book. *shakes head* The book did not beat around the bush, hiding Grendel! Argh. I thought that the actors looked amazing, I thought that it looked very realistic. And I wonder if they know that 300 was 'based' on the battle of Thermopylae? And it would be OK in a normal theater.

Can't they just enjoy the fighting scenes? I like sword fighting. *shrugs*

Alright I think I'm gonna pass up on this movie. The story of Beowulf has never been one of my personal favorites, and something about the animation...I mean its beautiful, but I think it might have been better in live action. Are you guys gonna review No Country for Old Men?
