  • really beautiful song - wonderful!! :-)

  • fabulous song! love it!

  • "Piano Man" wasn't that popular when it first came out in 1973. Joel wasn't well-known then, and the song never reached the top 20 on Billboard. Listeners became reacquainted with it when Joel achieved stardom with "The Stranger" in 1977, and it eventually became Joel's signature when he achieved fame with "The Stranger" in 1977.

I've come across Mr. Joel a few times over the years. He's a regular guy and doesn't insulate himself from the world as many celebrities do today.

  • I am so glad you found this!

  • I meant I am almost a teenager

  • Im not almost a teenager and I love this song I already know its a classic.

  • Does it look like Joel is wearing latex gloves?

  • Best Song Ever, Loved it!!!

  • Billy Joel and Steve Jobs will be in different parts of the afterlife. Billy Joel in the area where people with talent go, and Steve Jobs in the area for people who stole the talents of others.

  • Thanks for this great share - We are all so lucky, to be able to enjoy a 36year old track.

  • i like this because it prooves he actually wrote it and he took time in this song not someone singing a song someone else busting his or her's ass and they take all the credit

  • One word legend what a tune

  • Crazy eyes at the start of this!

  • 素晴らしい!

  • Like if you know all the words to all of Billy Joel's songs.

  • he looks like jeremy renner from the hurt locker and the town

  • Modern music never gives me chills like this music. Fantastic. Real honest human experience, that's what we want music about.

  • LOVING the accordion on this. You can totally imagine him stuck in some bar in Prague, or Budapest, or something...

Adds so much to this live version.

  • This song is so universal......thats whats so amazng about it. Yesterday i went to make a payment to conn's and they were blasting this song, i was slowly singing it and the old lady that was processing my payment started singing it with me. That my friends is real music that anyone can relate people together and bind them. Thanks Joel.

  • also i love his newfangled 'stache

    x giggle giggle x

  • A storyteller? A bard? Are those terms sufficient to describe Billy Joel?

  • @nooyawkfun any descriptions are inappropriate for this man he surpasses god

    billy: yo god what up?

god: how dare you talk to me

billy: look me straight in the eye

god: ... POOF (vanishes into thin air)

  • extraordinary lyrics. Woah

  • Best song ever. Fuck u haters.

  • just a great song if you don't like it your just weird

  • Bill knows.

  • God have this song on his iPod.

  • @kongminjeong If God exists and is all-knowing, then surely he knows there are much less expensive ways to play MP3s than on an iPod.

  • @bluenoserr Steve Jobs has probably given him one now.

  • @bluenoserr Pshh, God defies space and time, He could go back to this actual performace if he so wished.

  • this is the best ive heard him sing this song live

  • The best version of this song. No other sing nowadays could sing like that live. FACT!

  • I love the raised eyebrow just before he jumps into the jazzy lil solo, as if to say, check me out, and my dexterously spider-like fingers of epicness.

  • Outstanding.

  • What a voice!

  • Holy cats!!!He looks like an old 70s porn star!!!Hahahaha!Kidding!I love this song!!!

  • @rebelrecording Ron Jeremy???

  • @LEGIONARIO1970 OMG!!!It is him,isnt it?????

  • @rebelrecording hahahahaha, As soon as I saw this video I thought the same as you hahahaha, they look almost the same!!!

  • @LEGIONARIO1970 Both artists in their feild.but i think B.Js mustach stopped on his face!Rons just kept going!!!!

  • "son were all in the mood for a melody" I'm sure we all are! the song encapsulates all life, so enjoy it for what it is, say nothing unless it nice.

    Well done son.

  • one of the greatest retro rock songs ever...!.

  • @wescoolya thats not rock. this is called pop music.

its still a great song but it's not rock.

  • cameraman at 3:32 "good, he's finally done with that solo so i can zoom in now!"

  • I love playing the harmonica part for this and singing it. I'm not great at the piano part yet though...

  • 117 watch a lot of porn

  • This song reminds me of my visually impaired son whose classmate was a savant that knew the lyrics to this song and sang them and played them on the piano and it was just great!!!

  • Great rendition of his song. And it is really truly live before auto-tune, click tracks, and other garbage technology sucked the very life out of music. Most "rock stars" or "country stars" of today cannot do this. They cannot sing their own song, on pitch, in a live setting. Billy can, and he seems a genius in comparison.

  • He used to be "Regular" in Sag Harbor. I went to a recital, that included his daughter, Alexas, along with my niece, Leigh. He is a good egg.

    Andrew

  • @2drewbaker

He IS a good egg!!! I've met him, as well, and he is just a normal guy. No ego, no fake head nods. The next time I ran into him, he even remembered my name!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @onestop67 That's wat gr8 men are made of....interesting...thanks for sharing....

  • i love the complete voice change at 1:32 just goes to show you his talent.

  • The pro at his best

  • Superb!!!!!

  • brilliant

  • watch Billy Joel live in London (15/08/2011)

    .youtube.com/watch?v=JPWk1ovw0Ro

  • He's shitfaced.

  • @winksoda86

You sound like a fucking idiot

  • Thanks for the rare and old video of it. Can't beat that!

  • search for any 70's video or pic of Dennis DeYoung, see how two great voices kind of looked alike for a while...

  • GOOD MUSIC

  • This is great.

People who disliked this should be BANNED!

  • the people who disliked this have no sense of music

  • this is just...COOL!

  • The Rarity of this isnt the youtube hits, its the original recordings rarity.

This is an amazing rendition of a true classic

  • Notice the raised eyebrow just before pumping out that funky piano solo with his spider-like fingers. Thank fuck for BBC4. That's all I can say.

  • Effing awesome...he IS the piano man!!!

  • he looks like a white jesse jackson in da face

  • This man is a legend kick ass music

  • so rare that almost 1,000,000 have seen it............

  • @epicranger2 You must be retarded.

  • @bobkelso4245 how am i retarted you piece of shit?

  • Can you do it? We LOVE your music! I believe, that since there are so many comments here, that this is true.

  • Billy Joel: We want you BACK to us!

  • Now this is the good music! :D

  • @captainrabbit1016 You are so right, man!

  • Think if Billy Joel's 1975 self auditioned this song for American Idol today. They'd have to cancel the show right then and there because they'd never find a better voice than that.

  • @Rift1d That would be more true that history :>

  • @Rift1d They'd probably say no to him because they're not looking for creativity.

  • @Rift1d To be honest I wouldn't bet on it these days. He'd probably get told to change everything that makes him him, and then get pipped at the final post by a girl with a mediocre voice, but good looks.

  • @Rift1d Amen to that!

  • @Rift1d Agree 100%

  • My dad and me love this song(:

  • Ron Jeremy? I thought it was Freddy Prinz. just kidding, lol. I love Billy Joel! He is sooooo talented! I'm glad that he came along in this part of history. If he were around a couple of hundred years ago, not as many people would be able to hear him & appreciate his gifts. Thanks Billy!!

  • I Love this song... smile :-)

  • The lyrics to Billy Joel's songs are always profound and carry messages that hit home to someone somewhere at any given time.

  • Thank you for making this completely un-rare by posting on the world wide internet...

  • Thats real talent not like the music these days when they need a computer to change how they sound.

  • Thank-you 4 the music

  • great singers sound as good live as they do on the album. billy is an absolutely great singer

  • i wish i was that good

  • A mastache????? O.o

  • I can't believe how good he is live.

  • yea the reason he dosent have liberty is he used studio musicians for the first three albums and in 1976 the year of turnstiles he finally got his band together for the studio and on including liberty

  • great song

  • MUSTACHE!

  • He's Kink...I LOVE HIM!

  • I was so sad..... I'm fifteen and I had the chance to go see him in Boston and he had to pull out of his tour and go back to alcohol rehab........ It's so sad to see such a great musician struggle with such an unpredictable illness.

  • wow this is really good quality. Billy has a hell of a voice.

  • He may not be pretty, his singing voice may not the world's greatest, but I'd put this man up against ANY singer / songwriter / musician of the rock era.

  • Indeed this man is a musical genius. One of a few of the best.

He is also genius of science about society.

    Better than most professors.

Go to utube about John Ralston Saul on Globalization and other of his utubes and see that he talks about the same like Billy Joel but in different language. Thanks

  • Great Recorded Song...even Better Live!!

  • oh man, this is great.

  • The 23 dislikes have the IQ of bread mould

  • @Titchify Bread mould? Or Lady Gaga fans. They are one in the same:P

  • @Titchify i agree with you but you spelled mold wrong

  • @philip351000 Hi. Thanks for correcting. This is the accepted South African way of spelling. Generally SA english follows the British spelling forms, although I am not really sure why.

  • @Titchify um...... thats not too low actually :P

  • @Titchify Don't insult bread mould!!! =P ehehehe

  • @Titchify you do mean mold dont you?

  • @kichukdave I do, indeed. As I explained elsewhere, it is the accepted way of spelling it in South Africa, and in many other English speaking nations besides North America. You can check this on Wikipedia.

    Peace, my friend.

  • @Titchify Mould is the british english form, and its more often used as moulds, the plural term for mold.

  • This is a god of music what talent

  • @MerrickGajdics I'm pretty sure more than 23 people can't play piano.

  • I don't think anyone can argue that this has to be one of the top 10 greatest songs of all time..........well maybe Rolling Stone could argue it but what do they know

  • @sether255 i'm with ya man gotta stay strong

  • 1970's-1980's. At least I lived the 80's. What a time for music!

  • 14 and this puts shame to the music of my generation

  • With that hair and moustache he coud've pulled off a killer version of "Tie A Yellow Ribbon".

Just kidding.. classic song, great artist of our lifetime.

  • Who dislikes this ??? he is brilliant.!!!

  • @joey11ish crackheads and about 99% of today's kids.(unfortunately. they could learn a thing or two from these guys)

  • It was good that he gave up boxing.

  • 1:33 weird how he can just change his voice like that.

  • @mission2marsden thankyou so much for uploading, this is incredible. Really made my day

  • Its all in the mustache

  • This song is epic....and to see such an old version in great quality!!!!! thanks for posting!!

  • @420lightmyspliff420 good call

  • @420lightmyspliff420 AHAHAHAHAHAHA LMAO

  • @420lightmyspliff420 man you gave me a good chuckle there. He does look like the King of porn.

  • Four Shades of Sunlight

  • God Shuffles His Feet and Believes

  • I admire, adore and Love this man! What an incredible artist, a rare one at that. This video came out the year i was born, A few years ago I was in the Hamptons and got a personal signed autograph that I have all nicely framed. He's Fabulous!

  • Billy Joel was and still is an incredible performer and writes about things that are real instead of drivel like some of todays people.

  • Takes me back to being a child, although i do not actually recall seeing this performance on the "old grey whistle test" at the time..

  • @kevinturvy same here.... when my mother had fallen asleep i would sneak it over to the channel... i was secretly in my element :)

  • love this performance - thanks for posting

  • does anyone know where i can find the sheet music for this online for free and no downloading? i really wana learn to play this...

  • @piperpiper7 forpiano.com/FILEX/P/02eh89wswp/billy_joel--piano_man dot pdf

  • this song is great! my uncle can play it on the piano and soon i hope i will to! although i can play many songs and im only 13 i wish to play something better... i can only play certain songs... i cant really read the music.. i learn to play it by ear... verry rare i will play it from paper music...

  • <3

  • The sound intended to imply the irish pub, especially the harmonica riff and the piano improv in the bridge, not in this rendition, but in the original cut. It's really an irish "ditty".

  • this version is a classic with an Italian-french compliment (mainly from billy's hair and the accordian) that just makes the song perfect. it's simply brilliant

  • This kind of live performance from a complete professional is almost unheard of nowadays.

  • :) In my book he is right up there with Mozart. None of his songs sound alike, his lyrics are right on. A bloody genius!! Wish he had the same genius for his personal life - how does it go? Nobody's perfect.

  • @Isadorka1 well he is really good but u cant compare him to mozart lol.His music was amazing and one of a kiind. It was even like math . Just d some research and you will understand what i mean when i say its like math

  • @Supremedeity

If you really knew music you would know how stupid your comment was,but you clearly dont

  • @Supremedeity

I see several of you denying the possibility of comparison. I ask you "why not?" Very different styles, yes, but a musical genius just the same - which was the only point I was trying to make. If you can't conceive the differences perhaps that does not take away from Billy Joel but shows imaginations lacking. But why are we arguing when there is such great music to listen to. Have a great week-end all!

  • @Supremedeity More like calculus, Mozart's musical mind was amazing.

  • @Torn80cj Agreed

  • @Isadorka1 Mozart, really????
