One of my favorite performers of all time. I saw Steve Martin in a Banana Republic in L.A. He walked in the store as I was trying on a jacket. I don't know why but I turned to him with the jacket on and said, "What do you think?" He didn't say anything but smiled at me. I bought the jacket just b/c of that. I call it my 'Steve Martin' jacket.
@argomax1 That's a very intelligent statement. Did you go to an ivy league school? Then you bring up anal sex between men. Says a lot about you. Grow up you sick pedophile.
@argomax1 No. You started by calling Steve Martin gay, and a rubber face....I mean, how 3rd grade is that? Jesus man. You're really a grown man? Seriously? Wow.
Though Steve Martin seems to take out the 'punch lines...his timing tags the points of his discomforting situations beautifully. Jerry Lewis said: Comedy "is a man in trouble." Martin plays this truth repeatedly.
Read his book, great guy shame he's not funny anymore with his choice of dire films. He also used to look good, now he just looks like he's had a nip tuck to far.
Just bought and read his book "Born Standing Up". Absolutely terrific. This man is not only the funniest man of our time, but surprisingly intellectual, introspective, and extremely intelligent. The linguistics utilized were on a par with some of the Best Authors of our time! How does one man get so much talent? He's surprisingly open about his personal life as well, when your done reading, you feel as if you've made a friend.
", but surprisingly intellectual, introspective, and extremely intelligent. The linguistics utilized were on a par with some of the Best Authors of our time!"
linguistics is the study of language. break out the puff-o-meter next time you're fixin' to "utilize" some "linguistics" that'll be intellectual and intelligent.
It's rare to see Martin candid like that. Not 'on' and just doing his job. For most of his career he's been rather guarded it seems. Cool to see him let his hair down a bit, metaphorically speaking.
"What if I never told a punchline?" There's more wisdom in that question than most people will ever know.
Why are the great comedians so unhappy?? Comedy is clever = comedians are clever=audiences are stupid = so are comedians. RESULT= miserable lack of appreciation for the difficulty of getting a laugh...??
No way : a cheeseburger is never a cigar..NEVER! I admit the reverse can happen sometimes.
Steve Martin needs to stop dissing "The Jerk"; and lay-off the art-collecting/play-writing intellectual pastiche. It's fart-cushions from here. Does he care about the American people? If Obama gets Oprah then Hilary needs Steve M and a lot of fart cushions. Think about it (in ZachsMind).
adam sandler and steve martin in the same breath as writers? you've got to be kidding, martin is far superior as a writer than sandler, unless sandler is taking "how to write a screenplay 101" at NYU, and even that may not help. sandler's writing is shallow and juvenile. he writes for the masses and for his bank account.
A brilliant comedy writer that made himself into a fantastic standup comic in the 70's. Then he made crazy funny movies like, The Jerk,Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Man With Two Brains. Now he is a safe comedy standard for the Hollywood machine making more boring movies. Cycle of life...
Was Ron Paul mentioned in this segment? No. I am backing Ron Paul and this kind of non sequitur, Tourette's syndrome, attention-grabbing crap is not helping his campaign in the least.
BTW - Steve Martin's stand-up was awful. I never got him. Some movies were instant classics, however. The Jerk, Roxanne, LA Story. All faves, thanks to his wonderful comedic performances.
??? I am getting sick and tired of seeing you guys advertise a person who is obviously not going to even get anywhere in the polls. Just shut up and least keep things relevant...
I watched this. I've been a fan of Martin's for years. I was in love with him when I was in high school and he appeared on SNL alot. He never knew about the love thing. lols
