can you turn off the animations? They seem a bit annoying and unnecessary.

In my manual it (vaguely) says that after setting the time, you enter the animation settings mode. A single LED on the 12h marker would mean it's off. I've tried doing this and I get the single LED at 12, but it has no effect. However, you can just cancel the animation by touching the screen twice instead of once. :P
