  • So amazing for a video made 4 year ago , i cannot imagine how this is now with all the rendered picture i saw from the game website!!! ill be doing nice dream tonight !!!

  • I'll believe it when I see it. This looks to me like vaporware. First videos posted in 2006, and now in 2011 it's still pre-alpha?

  • @Graxster Please realize that this has been a one-man, part-time-hobby project until recently. Mr. Brebion has now partnered with Kieth Newton from Epic Games. Both now work on programming, Mr. Newton doing so full-time. I expect we will see work on the game proper within a year or two, taking into account the time required to set up their company, I-Novae Studios.

  • are their black holes in this game?

  • huh

  • this is probably the closest im getting to space and frankly i aint complaining. i do detest those constraints that come with reality

  • i know what u're saying...probably is the closest we're getting to space

  • If this is 2006, then the current build causes death upon all onlookers.

  • Indeed, that is why Infinity Admin (Flevion Brebion) is hiding all current content..

It is classified Top Secret, restricted only to level Phi, in which case the level is always higher than yours because you're not a Developer :)

I guess we will have to see it when it comes out... and it will shock the whole world!!! I can imagine it going all over the gaming news and maybe even beyond...

  • all of it is beautiful! I can't wait till I can fly around and land on any planet i want with those gorgeous graphics

  • 3:21-3:45 = gorgeous. all of it really, but that in particular

  • Will you be able to land on a planet and by way of a third person/first person be able to have a wanderaround?

I watched your balls...pardon the pun, I saw them roll down a mountain in the tech demo, I wanted to see you zoom off into space, look at a few rocks in the saturn-like rings then go back to the planet and look at the balls still falling. I wanted to believe it was possible....all i want to know is, is it?

    :D

  • No, they said you can't land on the planet, but you can fly at low altitude in a spacecraft.

I don't know how the physics is handled... In this demo, perhaps you could, but in the full game the balls will probably disappear if nobody's near them, or they'll be constrained to one area to simplify physics.

  • I'm happy to say that landing is in, but you can't leave the ship. There is no 'demo', so I don't know what you are talking about. There is no reason why the balls would disappear, though, as they are effectively no different from any other engine object. It is likely they would disappear eventually, but only as a function of time. Also, the whole point of a seamless game, is that there are no 'areas'.

  • "Demo" means "demonstration". It's just shortened. When you play a "demo" for a game, you're playing a demonstration of the game, but not the full thing. Just showing you around, you know?

  • Ah, but IA insists that it isn't a demo, merely a network code test. I agree with him.

  • I believe the demo he was referring to was this video.

  • you can land on planets if your ship has landing gear, wtf u talkin bout?

  • I'm talking about the last thing I heard from them.

I must have gotten "can't land" mixed up with "won't be able to get out and walk around".

I guess you could land, but there would be nothing to do if you aren't landing in a city.

  • well without them you would crash i guess :/

  • Looks good. I made a planetary renderer using ROAM a few years back and the major hurdle was river systems which we found a semi design semi procedural solution to.

I was wondering if this engine has rivers. It seems it doesn't and it seems no other (real-time) engine have them either.

Is it something you have considered or do you consider river systems irrelevant?

  • River systems are notoriously difficult for real time renderers as they require knowledge of adjacent terrain. Infinity will not have rivers that flow downhill but the terrain algorithm can generate sea level rivers and canyons. Se the latest dev journals on the web site for more info.

  • Exactly. Details thousands of kilometers away define the flow of a river locally. Too bad that you didn't find the holly grail either.

What we found previously however, was that you can decide on a river seed and let it flow from there. Only the riverbanks (as it flows) need be calculated in detail to estimate accurate flow. This way you can quickly proceurally generate rivers, but... not entirely accurately since you get a single spring.

  • @InfinitySupport What about oceans? Will the water behave like...water? Will the water interact with the ship of it flies very close to the surface(its called a water engine, right?)?

  • I love the detail.

  • can you fly into saturn?

  • Not necessarily Saturn...

But you can fly into gas giants.

  • nossa!

  • Im sure you have been asked this a hundred times, but when do you think the First Demo Version will be Out?

  • Holy Crap nice man nice Procedural Generating right?

  • Yep, Infinity is based in an entirely procedurally generated universe.

  • I'm just moved by how pretty this is...

  • wow wow wow, this is the engine/game i have been waiting for since the elite series of games :)

think i will be booking a month off work when its released :)

  • Looks very nice. The graphics are amazing. Seems to run very smooth on a standard box sweet. can't wait to see future updates on the progression of the game.

  • So...will this be in First-person? And what about moving around? Will we be able to move around on foot?

  • Its a space sim without an FPS mode so you'll have to be inside a vehicle to move around.

  • hmm...sounds pretty interesting! Can't wait!

  • Vehicles are always the best part of video games :D

  • The system sounds really basic, the performance of the engine is cool then. That's a very good thing to hear.

  • You should bear in mind that some of the slowdown seen in the video is caused by the video capture software running on the same machine.

  • What video capture software are you using?

  • Its captured with FRAPS.

  • Good because I just paid for FRAPS.

Would have been disappointed if I found out there was something free. But I did use something called Taksi that was almost as good as fraps but it had bugs...

  • heard of xfire? xD thats free xDxD

  • Amazing 3D engine, i wonder what kind of a PC it would require..

  • WOW.

  • awesome to the MAX MAX MAX!

  • This an explorers dream engine.

  • This game is going to rock! i mean come on! planets! ships! actual interaction with almost anything! infinite exploration! i mean, a video game were you can visit thousands of planets with weather, combat, friends, woah man, i cant wait till it comes out.

  • Simply amazing for the video game :D
