@S14VH45 Just meaning that the tension was building, and building, then the 2 brothers died (which we didn't even get to see) then everyone made peace the end... I'm not saying it was not a good movie, it just over promised and under delivered. Especially after watching the trailer, you expect war etc... but do not get it.
Just watched this movie and for all you Indie movie fans, I'd say this is like the indie "Godfather", absolutely awesome. Michael Shannon is the next Brando... Like it or not.
@lukie69 That's kind of part of what I dug. I thought it was realistic. Not for all tastes, I guess. It does pump you full of expectation and tension with very little release. You don't get what you expect sometimes.
Ok, if you go to the official website for Shotgun Stories, I believe this is an instrumental of a Lucero song. My question is, is it available anywhere!?! aside from the stream on the website
@blingwave That's a good question. I was wondering that myself. The regular version, with vocals, just doesn't do it for me. The instrumental version is beautiful. I'd much prefer it.
ukulazy - The song used throughout the movie is an instrumental redo of the song 'Hold Me Close' which is recorded by the directors brother name of ben nichols originally done by his band Lucero. If you like the movie, you should def. check out the band
I havnt seen this film yet butit looks gud. can see the comparisans to malick and badlands. I seen micheal shannon last nyt in revalutionary raod and he was amazing, definatly worth the oscar nom.
i just saw this movie today and it was phenomenal michael shannon is finally being recognized for his splendid work especially in revolutionary road.you can watch it on the sundance channel....not on youtube channel but on television.
Pulp Fiction and Donnie Darko( just to name a few) were/are considered indies, but they have huge cult fanbases, so I guess it is, I don't know for sure though. Just my guess.
Bruce Willis is a ghost in The Sixth Sense, she's actually a man in The Crying Game, Rosebud is Kane's sled, Kevin Spacey (allegedly) is Keyser Soze in The Usual Suspects, The Planet of the Apes is Earth, John Doe is the final victim in Se7en, the narrator and Tyler Durden are the same people in Fight Club, Leonard actually forgot he killed his own wife in Memento, Norman Bates' mother is really dead in Psycho, Borden is actually two identical twins in The Prestige, Soylent Green is people. Ha!
But Malicks work has hardly changed in style. Thin Red Line and The New World are very similar to the way he handled Days of Heaven. Badlands I would say was his most removed, however beautiful, but I'd say his work has remained constant in style and pace throughout. In fact its reknowned as such. Very Malickian.
@CTmania Haha! His earlier stuff? Please man. Can you point out how he might have adjusted his style or technique between Badlands and Days of Heaven?
oh and is there a way to maybe buy a copy on dvd? they premeired it here in little rock at sticky fingers, and i missed it because i was sick. i want this movie! heard about it a looong time ago im tired of waiting...this didnt come out at theatres so is it straight to dvd or is there still a wait?
Saw it a couple days ago at the Viennale, fantastic movie, kudos to Jeff Nichols! I'm really looking forward to his next film, even it's a western movie!
watched the movie at the berlinale in february of this year. it was by far the most impressive, most sensitive movie i watched there. jeff nichols did an awesome job. more to come?
Not that I know of, I talked to him after the Sydney film festival and he seems to be interested in adapting one of his favourite books. A western I believe.
*insert douchey comment about how indie is so much better than mainstream*

Amazing debut and the best film of 2008 so far. Reminded me of David Gordon Green /aka the modern Terrence Malick/ as well.

*SPOILERS* - they did stop the feud. WHat I loved the most about this film is the completely uncliched ending of peace.

"Very Malickian" ..haha, i like it.
I loved Badlands. New World was great, but despite being Irish myself, im not a fan of Colin Farrell.
It will be interesting to see Jeff Nichols career developing. Hope to see more from him.
Doesnt seem to be much in the way of info available when i googled his name thou.
