Bank of America is the worst most corrupt bank in the world. Bank of America harassed me, ruined my credit, charged me over $800 in fees over a 10 day period, tried to humiliate me, and never stopped calling my house- all because of $50 overdraft!!
In one day I was charged over $250 in overdraft fees because of a company that took advantage of my bank account- BofA charges more fees than any bank in the World!
Wow, who knew the old lame white guy who doesn't dance every time he sees a camera actually saw this coming? Maybe not a good pres candidate, but was smart enough to know this "stimulus" was a joke.
If Americans really want this economy to get going again. Everyone needs to get serious about this and quit blaming the Republicans saying they screwed it all up. Its not just one its everyone.
While my political views might be different than some of you here, I think I can say something we can all agree on.
A stimulus package should not have things in it that do not go towards stimulating the economy. While I'm sure it's all "good" stuff, some of it I think "is" unnecessary spending during a time that we can't afford to do so.
Both the Republicans and the Democrats agree that there needs to be a package, that's not what's at stake. What is in that package is.
Pork is an unavoidable part of our system. It's the only way many of important bills get passed at all. I'm not saying it's right, but it can't be blames on the party in power. It must be blamed upon our way of electing representatives in the legislative branch.
Whatever...Still, ya gotta admit Obama trying to say the stimulus package included absolutely no earmarks--- a hobo with a cane shouldda wrapped it around Obama's neck & yanked him off the podium like a bad vaudeville act...
Joe Biden claimed that the $862 Billion failed stimulus ($400 remains unspent) “created or saved” 750,000 jobs. Economists don’t recognize jobs created, and the jobs saved may have been keep local agencies afloat. When the money ran out, the people lost their jobs. Funny how things started to go really wrong after the Dems started controlling congress. Obama will bring this country to ruin with the help of Reid, and Pelosi. This spending plan will cripple the economy not bring stimulus. Obama talks a good game, but his words and his actions do not match = Liar!
Bush had an alcohol problem at one time, right? I don't see you going after him about that.
Oh wait, maybe that's because you think Republicans can do no wrong. The reality of the situation is that there are crooked people in both parties. I personally don't see President Obama as crooked, which is why I voted for him. I was more concerned about the issues facing this country then lets say, his middle name, and the fear-mongering about him supposedly being muslim and what not.
If you ask me, this delay of President Obama's stimulous package is little more than an attempt for the Republicans to get the upper hand come next Election.
not really if he won he wouldve been the 2nd oldest president and His Vp Palin wasnt experienced enough to win votes obama has better experience hands down
actually it was 4 years and obama ran the most organized campaign and had alot of money to reach people look it up sarah palin only 2 years as governor so if mcCain died she would lead and her plans suck
Something else, President Obama could actually talk about the issues that really matter to us, whereas McCain and Palin based virtually their entire campaign on nothing but smear tactics, personal attack adds, and fear-mongering. No one can convince me that McCain and Palin ran a good campaign because the fact of the matter is, they didn't!
You're not gonna sit behind that computer monitor and tell me you think Palin was the best choice for John McCain are you? If you think that, then you need an extensive head examination. Palin was so great that she had Republicans endorsing Obama! Shouldn't that tell you something?
McCain needs to retire and enjoy his many mansions because he is way out in left field. The Obama plan isn't going to stimulate a fart. Allahu a Mackbar!
no surprise that McCain said Obama is off to a "bad start." Obama tried to be as bipartisan as possible to include Republican ideas in the stimulus (more than 1/3rd of it is tax cuts). Yet, people like McCain are still complaining that he isn't doing what he promised. Obama is; the problem is that old stubborn Republicans like McCain are not budging on any of the wrong ideas that led to this economic crisis in the first place. Bipartisan works when both sides actually have reasonable ideas.
The free market cannot be the only way "to keep us spinning."
The free market has only existed for a fraction of a fraction of human history. It makes no sense to say that free market theory is the only way.
Free market is just an opinion or policy preference just like environmentalism and conservation is a policy preference. It all just depends on what your agenda is. What is your agenda?
Amazing how short human memory can be. Dealt says that Obama is over his head. Boy, Bush sure knew what he was doing with this ridiculous deficit and idiotic war. I though Republicans were for LESS GOVERMENT and LESS SPENDING. If Obama does nothing and we fall in to a depression, the GOP would say "he didn't do anything." Now he's trying to fix this GOP mess that he was given and they are still complaining. BTW, Bush had tax cuts and they didn't work.
Ok, I think I get it. Ya don't have a good rebuttal lowbottomranch's comment, so you resort to personal attacks. Just like what McCain and Palin based virtually their entire campaign on because they couldn't talk about the real issues.
Well, the economy was (and still is) the biggest one, especially after the Stock Market dropped so low, that Wall Street needed a $750,000,000,000.00 bail-out. I think people were more concerned about the economic situation (where Senator McCain was clearly weak,) than, lets say, President Obama's middle name.
Obama is without a clue, and so far over his head it's pathetic. When your boy totally fucks up the economy with his socialist spending plan, you will not be laughing when you realize that you're working for the big gov't Dem. "hacks" in D. C., and the majority of your earned income (If you have a job...which is doubtful) goes to lazy fuckers whose only goal in life is to beath in & out, so as to qualify for a gov't check (taxpayers money) on the first of each month.

Isn't it clear to everyone that Rs are more interested in the battle than the country. Even the 'moderate' McCain is solely focused on getting Obama out in '12.
Well that is a silly thing to say. "Protecting their own money." Key word "their."
Aren't you interested in protecting your own house, car, bike, land, computer, etc. ??
Everything boils down to wealth. There is really no difference between the cash in your pocket or in yourr bank account and your house, car, etc. They are all just alternative forms of wealth.
So, if you'd want to protect your house, you'd want to protect your income.
Well, that assumes that it is justified to charge people for admission in the first place---and admission to what?
If I am a lawyer you spent 7 years in college and law school and who took out $200,000 in loans to do so, you deserve to be making $100,000 or whatever. You should be making more than a police officer who has a GED.
People deserve a return on their efforts and investments. Why is it fair to tax the poor lawyer to death just because he studied for years and works hard?
But if law school was free, income tax would be like 60%, so I'd be working 70 hours per week, and I would only be bring home $40,000 of my $100,000. So, the education would hardly be free. Plus, stupid people who don't have the brain power to complete graduate school or professional school would still be paying huge income taxes.
Why tax people so much for being hard working and smart? Do you punish the kid that gets all A's in school by making him give 1/5 of his A's to slackers?
You're assuming the others are dumb and slacking. The cop with GED may be just as smart and hard working as the lawyer. But he had to quit school and get a job to take care of his family. No Univ. will take him now.
Americans don't think of insurance and tuition as taxes. But what if being a US citizen included all that? Taxes might be higher, but the lawyer has more of his own money left over than he does now.
And he doesn't have to save for his kids' school = even more left over...
I'm not assuming the others are dumb and slacking. But, with student loans, anyone can afford to go to college these days. Anyone can afford to get a law degree or medical degree.
But, most people don't want to spend 7 plus years in school. And, most people don't want to work 60-70 hours per week. So, if I lawyer has $200,000 in student loans and works his ass off, why should he be taxed at a much much higher rate than Joe who didn't care about school and only works 40 hours or less?
You say they don't want to spend the time in school. Sometimes people, because of circumstances, just can't do it for any number of reasons.
Why are you so self righteous? Only people who follow your path are worthy? Only a cop who stops being a cop and goes to school to be something else is worthy. Maybe people WANT to be cops and teachers and whatever they do.
Again, you are confusing my point. I didn't say people should be punished because they didn't get more of an education. The point is, I shouldn't be punished for sacrificing money and years of time TO get an education. I'll pay my 30% income tax, but I'm not going to be taxed 50-68% like in Europe.
Why am I self righteous? You are making stuff up now. Stop reading between the lines. You are making too many assumptions.
Who said anything about me being special? You are missing the whole point. This isn't about anyone being better than anyone else. I'm sure lots of Cops and whonot are better than me. And, lawyers aren't always super smart compared to say, professors.
The point is though, that lawyers and doctors, etc. pay mega bucks for their education and spending years doing nothing but studying. They should not be punished with higher taxes.
"he cop with GED may be just as smart and hard working as the lawyer."
Smart has nothing to do with it. By "dumb" I was just loosely refering to uneducated. The cop has spent nothing on education and has no sacrificed 7 years doing nothing but studying. And, most police officers don't work 70 hour weeks.
Why would no university take the police officer? I know a number of officers who go to law school later in life.
Regardless of what I do, I'll still be taxed over 30%. Lots of that money will go to pay for government programs, welfare, etc. I don't care about that. That is fine. Don't confuse and generalize my argument.
I don't have a problem with being taxed. I don't have a problem with helping the less fortunate. But you suggested higher taxes that would make university education free. That I think is not smart. I don't want a 68% income tax like in Denmark.
Fair enough. I don't think it will ever happen anyway, so no worries.
It would be a great thing if public education could be free in the US without such high tax rates (maybe just by NOT building another aircraft carrier or two or by NOT having another invasion or occupation, but that's crazy talk in this country ).
Then more people would get law degrees. And you'd have more staff available so you could work decent hours.
Well, the idea of public education being free sounds good. It is already possible to some degree. There is the A+ program that gives high school graduates two free years at a community college.
The interesting thing about "Free education" in Europe----almost all of the best universities in the world at in the U.S. If you look at the top 20 schools in the world, well over half are in the U.S. The others are mostly in the U.K. or Japan.
Regarding not building another aircraft carrier: Sure. I am somewhat against some military spending. But, the thing about military spending is that it gives people jobs.
See, you seem like the kind of person who should be for military spending. Building another aircraft carrier would creat thousands of jobs. That is the nice thing about having a big military. It gives lots of people many options for great carriers--and education.
I still don't think that it would have any affect on the number of hours lawyers work though. Lawyers are just generally hard workers. You aren't a lazy person if you study for 7 years.
Just like most people who are CEOs don't just sit around and watch TV all weekend. The carriers attract driven people, often people who work too much.
But you also want to pay off your loans before you are 50. Most lawyers really don't make that much money.
60% is what a lot of people in Europe are taxed in countries were graduate education is free--which is what you were talking about and what I was responding to. You are just getting off topic and apply my argument to other points with lots of assumptions. I've only been responding to free education.
Going to school for free wouldn't change the hours lawyers work at all. That doesn't even make sense. They don't have anything to do with each other.
I get taxed @ 33% 4 income. I get 9-10% sales tax. I get annual property/home/auto taxes. I get interest/capital gains taxes & social security tax- AND I get ripped off on the benefits side. At least socialists get a lot in return 4 their 50%-60% In the end, I pay as much (if not more) and get a lot less in return. I AM STILL COMPLETELY AGAINST SOLIALISM. I want is the freedom 2 use my money 4 the best benefit AS a true capitalist- not a capitalist being ripped off by half-socialist lies.
Yeah, I'd think about JAG but I've had kidney stones--so I'm not even draftable. Still, the JAG isn't really that good of a deal if you aren't in when you go to school. I'd get just as much financial benefit being a public defender. Still, the JAG would be fun if it were an option.
I've thought about being a lawyer for the Coast Guard. Their lawyers are technically civilians, so I can do that.

So, if you'd want to protect your house, you'd want to protect your income.

Good point. Still, taxes will increase and they're going to have to part with some of "their" money...
Because they've been sitting in the best seats for too long without having to pay full price for admission...
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
Well, that assumes that it is justified to charge people for admission in the first place---and admission to what?
If I am a lawyer you spent 7 years in college and law school and who took out $200,000 in loans to do so, you deserve to be making $100,000 or whatever. You should be making more than a police officer who has a GED.
People deserve a return on their efforts and investments. Why is it fair to tax the poor lawyer to death just because he studied for years and works hard?
blur880 3 years ago
Your question,
"...admission to what?"
That's the problem. In the US, there's very little "what". Suppose education were cheeper (or even free) and the lawyer didn't need that huge loan.
In other words, the "what" needs to expanded.
As for why the lawyer pays more, under Proportional or Progressive tax he's still going to pay more.
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
But if law school was free, income tax would be like 60%, so I'd be working 70 hours per week, and I would only be bring home $40,000 of my $100,000. So, the education would hardly be free. Plus, stupid people who don't have the brain power to complete graduate school or professional school would still be paying huge income taxes.
Why tax people so much for being hard working and smart? Do you punish the kid that gets all A's in school by making him give 1/5 of his A's to slackers?
blur880 3 years ago
You're assuming the others are dumb and slacking. The cop with GED may be just as smart and hard working as the lawyer. But he had to quit school and get a job to take care of his family. No Univ. will take him now.
Americans don't think of insurance and tuition as taxes. But what if being a US citizen included all that? Taxes might be higher, but the lawyer has more of his own money left over than he does now.
And he doesn't have to save for his kids' school = even more left over...
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
I'm not assuming the others are dumb and slacking. But, with student loans, anyone can afford to go to college these days. Anyone can afford to get a law degree or medical degree.
But, most people don't want to spend 7 plus years in school. And, most people don't want to work 60-70 hours per week. So, if I lawyer has $200,000 in student loans and works his ass off, why should he be taxed at a much much higher rate than Joe who didn't care about school and only works 40 hours or less?
blur880 3 years ago
You say they don't want to spend the time in school. Sometimes people, because of circumstances, just can't do it for any number of reasons.
Why are you so self righteous? Only people who follow your path are worthy? Only a cop who stops being a cop and goes to school to be something else is worthy. Maybe people WANT to be cops and teachers and whatever they do.
why are only you special?
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
Again, you are confusing my point. I didn't say people should be punished because they didn't get more of an education. The point is, I shouldn't be punished for sacrificing money and years of time TO get an education. I'll pay my 30% income tax, but I'm not going to be taxed 50-68% like in Europe.
Why am I self righteous? You are making stuff up now. Stop reading between the lines. You are making too many assumptions.
blur880 3 years ago
Who said anything about me being special? You are missing the whole point. This isn't about anyone being better than anyone else. I'm sure lots of Cops and whonot are better than me. And, lawyers aren't always super smart compared to say, professors.
The point is though, that lawyers and doctors, etc. pay mega bucks for their education and spending years doing nothing but studying. They should not be punished with higher taxes.
blur880 3 years ago
"he cop with GED may be just as smart and hard working as the lawyer."
Smart has nothing to do with it. By "dumb" I was just loosely refering to uneducated. The cop has spent nothing on education and has no sacrificed 7 years doing nothing but studying. And, most police officers don't work 70 hour weeks.
Why would no university take the police officer? I know a number of officers who go to law school later in life.
blur880 3 years ago
"Americans don't think of insurance and tuition as taxes. "
Why would insurance be a tax? That has nothing to do with taxing.
No, if a lawyer is taxed at 60%, he has much less money than he would have. He'd be working 70 hours a week to take home $40,000/year.
I went to college and law school. My parents never had to save a penny. It is called scholarships and loans.
I'd rather be $200,000 in debt right now than making $40,000 for the rest of my life at 70 hours/week.
blur880 3 years ago
I don't think you need to worry. You will NEVER be taxed 60% in your lifetime.
It sounds like you've got it all worked out. I'm sure it's going to be successful for you.
You will NOT have to support those who didn't get it together.
It sounds like you're very happy in your situation. And if working 70hrs a week starts to take its toll, there's always the bottle.
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
Regardless of what I do, I'll still be taxed over 30%. Lots of that money will go to pay for government programs, welfare, etc. I don't care about that. That is fine. Don't confuse and generalize my argument.
I don't have a problem with being taxed. I don't have a problem with helping the less fortunate. But you suggested higher taxes that would make university education free. That I think is not smart. I don't want a 68% income tax like in Denmark.
blur880 3 years ago
Fair enough. I don't think it will ever happen anyway, so no worries.
It would be a great thing if public education could be free in the US without such high tax rates (maybe just by NOT building another aircraft carrier or two or by NOT having another invasion or occupation, but that's crazy talk in this country ).
Then more people would get law degrees. And you'd have more staff available so you could work decent hours.
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
Well, the idea of public education being free sounds good. It is already possible to some degree. There is the A+ program that gives high school graduates two free years at a community college.
The interesting thing about "Free education" in Europe----almost all of the best universities in the world at in the U.S. If you look at the top 20 schools in the world, well over half are in the U.S. The others are mostly in the U.K. or Japan.
blur880 3 years ago
Regarding not building another aircraft carrier: Sure. I am somewhat against some military spending. But, the thing about military spending is that it gives people jobs.
See, you seem like the kind of person who should be for military spending. Building another aircraft carrier would creat thousands of jobs. That is the nice thing about having a big military. It gives lots of people many options for great carriers--and education.
All occupations are pretty much crazy though.

Most lawyers really don't make that much money.
blur880 3 years ago
You sound like a martyr. Again, 60% is YOUR number.
But what if you didn't have the debt (free education) and you could still do your chosen profession at more reasonable hours.
Would you be in favor of a progressive tax system then??
Or does everyone have to go in debt and work like you in order to make you happy?
Glad I won't be your kids.
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
60% is what a lot of people in Europe are taxed in countries were graduate education is free--which is what you were talking about and what I was responding to. You are just getting off topic and apply my argument to other points with lots of assumptions. I've only been responding to free education.
Going to school for free wouldn't change the hours lawyers work at all. That doesn't even make sense. They don't have anything to do with each other.
blur880 3 years ago
I get taxed @ 33% 4 income. I get 9-10% sales tax. I get annual property/home/auto taxes. I get interest/capital gains taxes & social security tax- AND I get ripped off on the benefits side. At least socialists get a lot in return 4 their 50%-60% In the end, I pay as much (if not more) and get a lot less in return. I AM STILL COMPLETELY AGAINST SOLIALISM. I want is the freedom 2 use my money 4 the best benefit AS a true capitalist- not a capitalist being ripped off by half-socialist lies.

A friend of mine was in the same situation as you. So, he joined the Air Force JAG. If you're still sort of young and in okay shape, you're IN!!
You'll work office hours and maybe live in a far away exotic land.
Also, you'll get to experience ALL the benefits of socialism, WITHOUT the high taxes.
I was a military journalist for years. Now, with my Gov-financed, loan-free degree I live abroad in an exotic country, working less and slacking more.
Join the JAG. You'll thank me.
leeroynaggins 3 years ago
Yeah, I'd think about JAG but I've had kidney stones--so I'm not even draftable. Still, the JAG isn't really that good of a deal if you aren't in when you go to school. I'd get just as much financial benefit being a public defender. Still, the JAG would be fun if it were an option.
I've thought about being a lawyer for the Coast Guard. Their lawyers are technically civilians, so I can do that.
