I would find this clever if you had AT LEAST written YOUR OWN music. That would at first make it more admirable. Secondly, the lyrics are just FACTS known to everyone. Very tasteful immitation of the Parthenon and Athena. Indeed! So very "american tasteful". (you did know this statue was of Athena - didnt' you?). A tastefull (in a very american way) poetry as well. As a Greek I find this song hilarious...most of us have a great sense of humor...Had this been made and sung by one of our national comedians, (Lazopoulos or RADIO ARVYLA) everyone in Greece would be laughing......and rightly so, koitaxte ta xalia mas, we must laugh a little bit with that! I in no way found it offensive to my heritage because what you say is the economic reality but put in a humorous fashion. People making negative comments ought to lighten up and have a laugh. a) Greek arrogance about their future
and
b) International bank organizations so they have control over Greek land that is near the Middle East Oil, Israel, Cyprus, Turkey and in the middle of high importance territories.

Is it so funny to laugh with the people's pain? There are people that lost their job, their house, people that work 24/7 in order to pay off the mistakes that were made in the past and Not by them! And I talk about people that are very very proud. Here in Greece we say that the things that make someone laugh show the quality of his soul. I feel sorry for the people that laugh with this. Poor Greece, you were the first to talk about democracy and now because of this they are free to laugh at you.

I love the people of Greece who are going through a very tough time right now. But, I don't think this video is showing any disrespect, I think it's just a funny little video that introduces some economic and financial concepts. There was a another video Merle Hazard did for the Newshour on "Inflation or Deflation" that I saw on the SolmanClassroom channel. We're having a hell of a time keeping our head above water in the U.S.

I don't think selling Manhattan would make up the deficit... maybe California. Some think we are already giving away Alaska (to the big Oil Companies) but that won't pay off our debt either. But we wouldn't, and don't, shy away from pointing out America's problems, and sometimes through satire.... which, if I understand correctly, the Greeks invented.

I can assure you we are not seriously suggesting that Greece should (or even could) sell Crete (or any Greek territory) in order to pay its debts. It is though quite likely that Greece, and the US, both saddled with huge nation debts, will need to, at some point, sell off some govt. owned assets in order to pay off debts.

Maybe "Merle" could exlain what "selling short" means. That part about dropping the Euro ties in with a real life conversation with someone of Portugeuse ancestry. He thought Portugal made a mistake in going to the Euro and joining the EU. This made Portugal less competitive.

@antikeimenika I do feel sold to the Chinese on most days. However, it wasn't George Bush who caused the current finacial crisis; it was the [heavily] government- sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The crisis was also caused by people buying (read that 'taking loans out on') things they could not afford. When house prices stopped rising and mortgages had to be paid, people began to default, especially if they held subprime mortgages.
@antikeimenika It actually all started at Clinton's time, with him claiming that every family should be able to afford a house. Bush didn't put a stop to it, and Obama is just doing the opposite to what makes economical sense. Obama is a real politician, and he is following his politician's instinct when comes down to decision making -- he only cares about short-term votes, instead of solving long-term economical problems.

I would find this clever if you had AT LEAST written YOUR OWN music. That would at first make it more admirable. Secondly, the lyrics are just FACTS known to everyone. I thought I would hear something sarcastic, like in a good stand-up comedy.Nothing original there too. You are filling some verses by repeating some phrases 4 times? Are you serious? Very tasteful immitation of the Parthenon and Athena. Indeed! So very "american tasteful". (you did know this statue was of Athena - didnt' you?). A tastefull (in a very american way) poetry as well. Go on boy! Greece has a wealth of cultural life you can use to make yourself known. We dont mind americans using it to get themselves internationally ridiculed...they dont need our hep either....all the best in your career!

As a Greek living in VA I find American humor not funny at all. You meant well and it doesn't offend me knowing full well which powers are doing it and using Greece.
I give you credit for knowing a little about my homeland instead of thinking that Athens is in Georgia. An American who is aware. An American who knows where Greece is located and that we don't worship Zeus............

As a 2nd generation born American (USA) of 100% Greek heritage I found your satirical video to be both very funny and educational at the same time. I in no way found it offensive to my heritage because what you say is the economic reality but put in a humorous fashion. People making negative comments ought to lighten up and have a laugh. Is it so funny to laugh with the people's pain? There are people that lost their job, their house, people that work 24/7 in order to pay off the mistakes that were made in the past and Not by them! And I talk about people that are very very proud. Here in Greece we say that the things that make someone laugh show the quality of his soul. I feel sorry for the people that laugh with this. Poor Greece, you were the first to talk about democracy and now because of this they are free to laugh at you.

If you really want to get at the source of the meltdown - do a parody of US banks and politicians in bed devoid of any sense of morality. But, I don't think this video is showing any disrespect, I think it's just a funny little video that introduces some economic and financial concepts. There was a another video Merle Hazard did for the Newshour on "Inflation or Deflation" that I saw on the SolmanClassroom channel. I don't think selling Manhattan would make up the deficit... maybe California. Some think we are already giving away Alaska (to the big Oil Companies) but that won't pay off our debt either. I can assure you we are not seriously suggesting that Greece should (or even could) sell Crete (or any Greek territory) in order to pay its debts. It is though quite likely that Greece, and the US, both saddled with huge nation debts, will need to, at some point, sell off some govt. owned assets in order to pay off debts.

Maybe "Merle" could exlain what "selling short" means. That part about dropping the Euro ties in with a real life conversation with someone of Portugeuse ancestry. He thought Portugal made a mistake in going to the Euro and joining the EU. This made Portugal less competitive.

I kind of figured that some bozo would accuse the song of being racist. That bozo should also remember he took a shot at the American credit crisis first. That song poking fun at the American debt crisis was posted on the Huffington post. Intestingly enough the Huffington post did not have the Greek debt crisis song. Maybe the song hit a little to close to home for Ariana. . Someone of Portugeuse ancestry made a similar observation to "Merle" concering the Euro making one less competitive.

@vkonti Again please note again that "Merle Hazard" earlier took a shot at the American credit crisis. That video was posted on the Huffington post Maybe he should also take a shot at the othe PIIGS countries. He could also take a shot at Japan which has a greater debt ratio than Greece. For whatever its worth American companies and technologies have been bought by Japanese and Chinese firms. I think the Dutch and British are the biggest investors in the U.S.

@MrJonathanSwift "Merle Hazard" is an American citizen and has every constitutional right to comment on anything that goes on in his country. You will find no objection from me there. But Greece is another country that faces direct war provocations from three neighboring countries at the moment, something one does not see in the mainstream media. Therefore remarks like "selling off" are dangerous for the stability of the region. My focus is not on "Merle", but to the one who requested the song.

Remember the presidential hoax of the "Iraqi Weapons Of Mass Destruction" that ended up in an unjustified war. Remember the native Americans Holocaust. @SolmanClassroom I think that by "singing" lyrics such as Greeks "should sell off Crete" you are making an insulting suggestion to a former WWII ally that sacrificed 800.000 souls in the good cause of resisting Nazism. @SolmanClassroom Well said. I think I understand where you are coming from and support you 100%. The point is, we all do what we can. Since Merle is not in Congress or in Greece, it is a perfect use of his talent to write catchy songs to raise awareness. And those who start to attack the US as a whole, I can only say that insecure people tend to get defensive easily.

@antikeimenika I do feel sold to the Chinese on most days. However, it wasn't George Bush who caused the current finacial crisis; it was the [heavily] government- sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The crisis was also caused by people buying (read that 'taking loans out on') things they could not afford. When house prices stopped rising and mortgages had to be paid, people began to default, especially if they held subprime mortgages.

@antikeimenika It actually all started at Clinton's time, with him claiming that every family should be able to afford a house. Bush didn't put a stop to it, and Obama is just doing the opposite to what makes economical sense. Obama is a real politician, and he is following his politician's instinct when comes down to decision making -- he only cares about short-term votes, instead of solving long-term economical problems.
