Didn't really like the film much, but Anton Yelchin played a really good Kyle Reese. He certainly studied Michael Biehn. Shame he didn't get more recognition for his performance.
What the fuck? Sorry if I'm behind on the whole shrift, but how come in this movie, John is older than Kyle Reese? I mean, shouldn't it be the opposite? And what the hell? I thought in Terminator 2, they destroyed the Skynet building, melted the arm and chip, and Arnold in the steel mill to erase all evidence of the Terminators, but how come we still see Skynet attacks and Terminators? Time Paradox much?
@GranTurismo360 You don't get it? Kyle Was sent Back In time to 1984 Before John was Born. It doesn't necessarily mean Kyle has to be older than John. Kyle grew up after the Nuclear explosion that killed almost everybody, then he was sent back in time to be John's father.
@GranTurismo360 Reese was born in 2002. T4 takes place in 2018. Reese goes back in time to 1984 from 2029, meaning he would have been 27 during the events of T1. In T3, which takes place in 2004, the T-850 explains that the events of T2 only postponed Judgment Day. T3 reveals that Skynet was actually software, not hardware, so destroying Cyberdyne only staved off the "Rise of the Machines" for seven years (it would have originally occurred in 1997).
@lordvoldemort578 Reese would have been 1 at the time T3 came out, but since it takes place in 2004, he would have been 2 during the events of the story -- or close to it (not sure what month he was born). Judging by things young Reese says in T4, previous time-travel events have altered certain details of the timeline. For example, Biehn-Reese in T1 says that people stay hidden by day due to HKs, whereas Yelchin-Reese says in T4 that HKs hunt better at night.
I love how John's face just changes when he sees Kyle, it's a brief but it's still powerful. All of his life he's just been thinking about his father and throughout the movie he's concerned about him being all alone and when Marcus tells him Skynet has Kyle he drops everything to go save him. And that scene "I won't leave you" "You didn't" short too but it did really say a lot.
Although this was a good John Connor meeting his father Kyle Reese, it is nowhere near as good as the fantastic Season 2 finale of The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
@lordvoldemort578 Anton was a fan of 'The Terminator' movies since he was a kid (learned that from watching an interview) so he probably knew Mike's mannerisms (as Reese) by heart anyway.
better than the original. dont know why fiedel wasnt at least approached to do the music, I know he's retired but I still believe theres a chance he would have done it.
I think christian was good as connor. The fault lies with the character development and storyline in additon to the many plotholes within the script. I think the terminator fanbase could have comeup with a better storyline than what we saw in theaters.
Why would Skynet abduct Reese to lure Connor unless it knew that Reese was his father? And if it knows Reese is Connor's father, why not just kill Reese? I allowed its "kill list" to be intercepted by Tech Com just to lure JC into its facility to a holding cell that he thought was where Reese was (which means Skynet must have also duped Marcus), only to be killed by a T-800 model 101 which had been placed there because that's where John thought Kyle was according to his PDA map.
@beckasha83 As I have said to so many people, Edward Furlong would not have made a difference, as much as I liked this movie, people hated it for the story and the style and no original actor wouldn't have made difference. Furlong or not, this movie still would've sucked. No offense.
They fucked everything about this movie up except Kyle Reese. Yelchin was a perfect choice and played it great.

@IggyHazard Oh yeah, I think when you travel back in time you are not traveling to the past you are traveling to an alternate past

Kyle Reese is a way better soldier then john conner in this film

The theme playing here is freakin epic.
Anyway, TBH, the version from TSCC of John meeting Kyle was more dramatic IMHO. Here, it felt kind of rushed, didn't it?
