the way i heard it is that this was THE 1st rap song . however,i think that music initself is too broad in the sense that BLondie was probably influenced by some other band or person she knew or seen at the time. so maybe its safer to say that rap possibly originated in the NY area around this time....we wont really know for sure....

Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" predates Blondie and is pretty close to rap - so close that Run DMC sampled it! "Walk This Way" is 1975.

no, rap has it's roots in jamaican music. jamaican's were using turn tables and dj's. DJ Kool Herc was from Jamaica and he introduced Jamiacan music to the Bronx. This is how rap started.

it wasn't the first rap song at all - but it WAS the first rap music VIDEO. At the time rap was mostly underground or "indie" for all the kids. But surprise surprise only white artists had the budget to produce music videos at the time... fab five freddy cameos, and lyrics reference grandmaster flash. not the first rap song, but maybe the first commercially successful rap single.

the way i heard it is that this was THE 1st rap song . however,i think that music initself is too broad in the sense that BLondie was probably influenced by some other band or person she knew or seen at the time. so maybe its safer to say that rap possibly originated in the NY area around this time....we wont really know for sure....
