  • and if you want to sound like a duche bag in japanese, as we do in english, you can say the time backwards. Thats not a dig on japanese-i love japanese-i just cant stand ppl who say its 10 min to two. I dont want to have to do math to figure out the time, just tell me the time.

  • So the first Tang Dynasy would be Ichi Pun Tang?

  • HARD!!!!! ....but i'm workin on it

  • Wow.. so 5pm would be "gogo go ji"? ...lol I wonder what this would sound like?

  • PLease can someone help me ??

How can i say "Right now it's 4 o'clock " .(in the afternoon)

is it correct this way : 今のところは、4時です。

    ???

  • Comment removed

  • Que Hora Es?

  • @Clawdia13 i have only taking lessons for 2 mounth and i know someone might already have answered you but with the knowledge i have so should you say " ima gogo yoji" :)

  • i mainly learn Japanese from watching anime

  • アルトハウスはこれを教えなかった >:0

  • This seems very hard to remember :/

  • 分 minute. In the video it called "fun" but in Google translate it called "bun". And same with 時 hour(called "toki" - not "ji"). Which one is correct ??? plz reply! thx.

  • @suineg1 They are all correct. Most kanji have more than one pronunciation. 分 is fun but becomes "bun" or "pun" after certain sounds. And the two pronunciations for 時 are the "Chinese" (on) and native Japanese (kun) pronunciations.

  • @thejapanshop but it will sound weird if I make mistake and pronounce it wrong ? :) thx!

  • Useful in anime.(x

  • I think the better way to start learning Japanese is to familiarize oneself on Hiragana writing system. Learn how to write and read that set because it is the most basic and common. It's really fulfilling when you are finally able to read and understand what are they typing. :)

Learn some new words and phrases while studying the hiragana. It will be helpful :)

I'm on my way to katakana writing system which is used on foreign or borrowed words like konpyutaa(computer)

  • @eeskaatt don't give up!

  • As of now, the only thing I learned so far by self-studying are reading and writing the hiragana set(next-up is katakana), and a handful of usefull words and set phrases :)

the grammar part is what's killing me.. :|

  • This was so helpful thx so much its hard to find simple lessons like this especially ones that are free thanks alot man your a great help!

  • forgot the kanji for fun and i didnt write it. this was a big help

  • Who want to do online Japanese lesson with me?

  • thankyou for this!! I am learning japanese and its always been time that i have always had a little trouble with! thankyou for this video! i never knew how to say '15 to ___' or watevah before this video!! ^_^

  • ありがとうございました。

such usefull channel... thank you so much!

  • arigatou gozaimasu

  • Japanese has a little bit of a funky word order

  • ah i just discovered these lessons! what a great help in brushing up my time telling. Thanks!

  • aah gyes,in the past i wrote a lot of coments that said that they dont get a thing from this clip.. i kind of watched it for a while and made a short and more acurate lesson and who ever wants me to send him a pm with the explanation just write to me ok?..its mire simple than this but yet the same thing haha

  • motto yukkuri hanashite kudasai o.o;;

  • Totally confusing. Sorry, you lost me.

  • i dont think this is the best way to learn the time

  • @yellowvizard yea me either

  • I've learned to say something:30 you say han i'm confused

  • @hotstufME428

"han" means "half past" in English.

  • I'm learning that and it just helps me to revise! :)

  • am i supposed to make my voice high pitched like her?...it feels as if i say it wrong if i say all bored and stuff T__T

  • Iie, Wakari masen. Kore wa musakashii desu.

  • This vid is ridiculously off sync. I also wonder why they keep starting with PM.Doesn't AM come first? Kinda ironic with the Japan being the land of the rising sun an' all that. The vid is very instructive otherwise..but can be misleading for those who never took classes.

  • @tenmilliondollarsnow i never took real classes... im learning the language with rosetta stone, and i did pretty good with this video... i didnt notice any synch problem in the video.. maybe was a bug on youtube.. i think its okay now...

  • The video is slower than the audio

  • wtffff o_O begginner? ^o^; I believe that they shot a lil low when they claimed that it was just beginner junk... its hard to understand vid.....

  • soooooooooooo harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddddddd -.-

  • This is actually not a great video for beginners. They do things differently than they just instructed you to do it, and a novice will just get confused. For instance, they first say seven is nana fun, but when she gives examples she says shichi hun. Not good!

  • T___T japanese is soooo hard!!!

  • I find it a bit easier than Spanish... but then again I'm not the best learner at language. XD

  • Add the "&fmt=18" at the end of video URL, this will get you high quality video where the compression is ok.

Seems like youtube's videocoder messed up with low q version, it recompresses videos from time to time.

  • @StarHunterCat THANK YOU

  • the more u learn japanese, the harder it gets.

  • because the kanji is hard to learn !!

  • Audio is very off. I think it has to do with the intro thing.

  • I pronounce 4分 as よんふん, though.

  • this video is crap genki japan is much better

  • indeed

  • i thought it was brillant !!

  • lol i coulnt barerly get it last time so im trying today as well to see if last time was my head problem

  • hard...

  • the video and the audio are waaayyyy offff. >.>

  • i was saying that same thingggg yo! lol

  • U're right...it's hard to learn in this way!!!

    Please remake the video!!!

  • ok so it WASNT just my comp o.O

  • please add subtitles

  • um this clip isnt verry clear i cant get it unless u have pictures or something like that PLSSS

  • Fix this please

  • I don't really get it......

  • neither do I

  • Check out the video from Expert Village. Yuu Asakura is very clear in her explanation.

  • Does Japan use military time?

  • yes, they do. I'm not so great with military time... epic fail...chou hazukashii, ne? _._

  • the audio is going faster than, it's video. is there a way for you too fix this

  • is it just me or the sound is twice as fast as the film?

  • It's not you - unless we're both going nuts.

  • I'm finding this very difficult to take in, and understand "/

Maybe my brain is just dead today.

I'm learning japanese so i can't put this off any longer.

Can anybody help me learn this please? i cant understand it.

  • But if you want to say 5:30 you can say "go ji han" right?

  • yes "go ji han" would litterally mean something like half past 5. han means half. so im guessing it means like half of the time for that hour has passed. long response huh?

  • How do i tell when to use fun or pun??? Only part I cant seem to understand

  • Other than 1-10, you use "pun" for a double-diget number that does not end in "5". All double digits that end in "5" use "fun". Such as: 15, 25, 35, 45 = fun and 14, 26, 38, 49 = pun.

  • Wow! Arigatou gozaimasu for posting this video the japan shop. This was very helpful. Sayonara!

  • arigatou gozaimashita!!!!!!!!!

  • the japanese page sure is great and useful.. ganbatte!

  • katakani

    hiragana &

    kanji

    are japanese symbols

kind of like how romaji is f=normal letters for english people

  • hiragana is the original Japanese scripture.

It contains all the sounds of Japanese (there aren't too many).

Katakana contains also all the Japanese sounds, but it is mostly used for foreign words, like english ("fashion" "computer" etc)

Kanji are Chinese characters and there are 1000's of them, but they have the same sounds as the hiragana scripture. These are used to distinguish same sounds in words for different meanings in words.

  • i dont get what kanji, hiragana, katakana can anyone tell me plz

  • The Japanese Page is so useful. I'm trying to learn my kanji, as I pretty much ignored it while I was learning to speak the language. It's helped me a lot over the years, and I think the videos are really great. RATES 5!

  • A BIG Thanks!!

  • you forgot byou for those who like races and to microwave their food haha oh and still wii friendly so has to be your page layout cause I'm watching on utube just fine

  • i like 5 minutes GO FUN

  • muzukashii naa... Demo ganbarimasu!

    Minna mo ganbatte kudasai!

  • Sounds like after you repeat the examples a few times and just start doing different times on your own, telling time gets easier. I tell you what though, to me this is easier than French! XD

  • I love telling time in Japanese, but by the time I'm finished, 10 minutes have passed. I always forget to say Gogo or Gozen too. Knowing your # in Japanese is SO IMPORTANT if you want to tell time.

  • Ganbarimasu!!!!!!!

  • this really helps~!

  • Thanks!

  • How on earth can Japanese be easy? There's like over 1,000 Kanji to know!

  • 50,000 if I remember correctly.

Flash cards my friend, lot's of flash cards.

  • Kanji is really important but you only need to know about 2000 or so to be perfectly fluent in Japanese.

And honestly it's not that bad.

  • last comment @Anonysage.. Firefox isn't displaying the replies right.

  • Yes I have already learned 1000, no joke.

  • I learned a lot in a matter of weeks.

  • I find Japanese so easy to learn. I know English, Spanish,French and now I'm learning Japanese and is so easy even my daughter is learning. The only thing is i wish the words can be accented like in Spanish.

  • ok now my head hurts :S

i find this a litle bit confusing...

but i will keep on learing ^^

  • It certainly will take time to internalize. Ganbatte!

  • domo arigato ^^

  • This is a very helpful vid! Thanx! ^_^

  • Thank you!

  • whoever marked the above commenThumbsdown needs sanity curing!

    peACE from Nara,

    eLi G., piaNOwarist.

    fun means minute... or?!?

  • I marked it Thumbs up to make it zero again. :) Yes, fun (分) means minute.

  • dou itashimashite!

  • I really want to learn the video and I have like 5 videos on how to speak Japanese but I have problems with memorizing stuff and it kinda stinx but this video helps because it repeats the words so I don't have to rewing like 10 times. Only 5! lol!!! but anyway...

Aw man.. i want to learn Japanese language sooo badly! But i am quite sure i well one day

  • One step at a time (ippo ippo). The next video will be about how to count numbers. I should have waited to do this video after that one.
