So thats where Jeff gets those amazing wailing vocals from. When Tim hits those falsettos they sound almost identical in control, vibrato, and pitch to Jeff's ad lib vocal parts. My god that was awesome! Thanks for the post.
I used to listen to him a lot in the early 90's and remeber a song i loved i but what was the name? it went something like"just like a mockingbird, singin in the sunshine..." cam't remeber but need to findit. please help.
I agree with tantpie - complete nonsense to suggest Buckley needed drugs to write. That sort of talent is just there... whatever the toxic circumstances.
piruk.....i remeber this on old grey whistle test...looks like you taped it off telly...good to see it though....they always show Dolphins off whistle test...but this is rarely seen...well played...x
Used to sing this in a blues-type band. Felt like I was channeling him, particularly at the end. This is a powerful stuff, about as raw and yet as flawlessly in control as anyone's ever likely to get. I can also recommend the Honeyman CD. He must have felt like a god at the time, probably why he took that last speedball....
Really, I think this "Tim became blue-eyed Funk for the record companies" and thus is downgraded for this I find very flawed. I mean, he is at his most electrifying here because of his anger at being "encouraged" to be more accessable, and thus I think he wrote his most personal and angry stuff, during this "commercialized" phase. This is fantastic!
Tim Buckley was known in the UK but not massively popular and hence not on UK tv much. This video was from the Whistle Tests Years 1974, where he did this and Fred Neil's "Dolphins".I note you have no videos to compare quality with and I stand by the quality of mine versus much I see on YouTube.
Thanks for posting.Hadn't seen this sung live before, had only seen dolphins.Got the fleeting house doco. But was disapointed it didn't have too much of his later stuff and nothing off Greetins, my favourite album. I have never seen him perform a single song off that album and it has been my number 1 for 10 years. I live in australia and not many music shops or people have heard of Tim they usually say don't you mean Jeff!!
brilliant!! oh i wish i was that mic.

@lennydylan Tim sang Fred Neil's "Dolphins" but the writer was interested in dolphins and went to work with them in Florida.

Does Tim have any other songs as cool as this? I'm not really a fan of his acoustic stuff but this is incredible.

If you like the funkier Tim Buckley you should definitely listen to the live cd called "Honeyman". Some cool songs there...

The Folk Tim, the Folk rock Tim, the art music Tim, the hard rock Tim, the jazz singing Tim...
this is the best clip I've seen yet of that rockin' Tim.

Given the subject matter of most of "Greetings From L.A." I can't see TV companies airing it.
