Just thought I'd post an update that Bear is now 2.5 years old and happy and healthy as can be! She has tons of energy and likes picking on our 7 year old full size cat. She still plays fetch! Her personality is so unique -reminds me more of a dog. Thanks for all of your coments!

@norwaygy Not exactly. aside from short limbs dachshunds have loads of internal problems. The munchkin trait doesn't always manifest.  A munchkin pair can produce whole litters of long legged cats.

@Robbob9933 i'm afraid there is 1 common deviation, flat chest syndrome. it means that the ribcage is twisted, wich results in decreased lung capacity, they have an almost normal lifespan. if they do not need to be put out of it's misery in their youth, they'll grow over it, but they stay more relaxed and affectionate.

Why? I bet you actually don't know anything about this type of cat.  Their short legs are caused by a natural mutation, not through human manipulation. Some people just choose to attempt to breed for this trait. Litters will often constitute both long legs and short legs. And due to feline skeletal structure they don't suffer from the same spinal problems as those that dachshunds and Corgis will often fall victim to. These cats live long healthy lives.

Bear is actually a much nicer, more loving cat than my full size cat. And much cuter to be honest. She can jump up onto the table, run incredibly fast, and has a very unique personality.

I don't think I want this breed of cat, It runs too much like a dog. I had a three legged cat, adopted from a shelter and It limited her movements and life. I think I would rather have a long legged cat myself.

Bear is very happy! I have another full size cat and they get along so well. One minute their playing, chasing each other (which Bear is actually incredibly fast), and the next they're laying on the couch cleaning each other. Such a loving, fun cat!

Actually, Munchkins are not all that limited by their legs. They may not be able to jump very high, but they can run and climb just as well as any other breed. Most people assume they are handicap but in reality, they have a natural genetic mutation that gives them the short legs. It's similar to Corgis.
