  • new york adores you dinah.JP

  • Que voz espetacular desta Diva, que bom que cantoras como ela EXISTIRAM .........estou maravilhada!!!

  • Definate-- Amy's biggest influence..Wow you can hear it.. :)

  • Sorry, but I prefer Ella's version. For me, the best song of Dinah is "Mad about the boy"

  • fabulosa voz

  • I think I could listen to this version and Ella's all day long - perfect diction and brilliant lyrics.

thanks for sharing it with us

  • this song does it for me.....Just something about it

  • Pour les amis de Disons, mon petit cadeau ...

    Maxim.

  • so articulate in her phrasing and pipes that gave her a sound like NO BODY ELSE. I love her voice - did she every sing with Billy Eckstine? I don't know why I'm thinking there was a song they did together? Perhaps I dreamed it? Thank you Scout4Me, for this and other Dinah Gems.

  • I had been listening to Nancy Wilson a lot & saw the movie "The Tempest". They played this version of "Manhattan" at the end of the movie & I was blown away. Needless to say Dinah must have been one of Nancy's biggest influences. I love Jazz singers who don't do all of the bebop scatting kind of stuff. Ella being the exception to that!

  • @Slamule, I've loved this song ever since that movie. It's been so long since I've seen it but remember thinking at first it didn't fit but was completely enthralled by it all the same.

  • @Slamule Yeah, that was a good movie. You don't like scat? Have you ever heard Annie Ross with Lambert, Hendricks ?

  • @09beegee I really shouldn't be judgmental about people I haven't listened to that much but from what I have heard I wasn't crazy about them, sorry. When people put lyrics to famous instrumental solos sometimes I find that hard to listen to. The exception to that would be "Moody's Mood for Love".

  • Diva Dinah!!!

  • Once there was a world that contained Ella Fitzgerald AND Dinah Washington. Wow.

  • Por favor, comparar a eterna Dinah com a Amy ???

Realmente não sabe nada de música !!!

Vai procurar saber, por favor !!!!!!!!

    Ivan Bocalon

  • Discovered Dinah when I was 16, while hanging out at the local jazz station in flint, Mi in 1966. "Barlow" on WGMZ from 12M-3am. What a musical education!

  • This is MAGIC WOMAN &MAGIC VOICE!!!

  • THE GREATEST SINGER ON THE PLANET...UNSURPASSED! HANDS DOWN!

  • Dinah e Amy, vozes muito parecidas!!!

    MARAVILHOSAS!

  • Unforgettable

  • I get a kick when she sings " the dreams of a boy and goil" first and "girl" the second time.

  • Maravilhosa, sensacional, divina!!!!!!!!

  • Just like her version of 'September in the Rain', the arrangement and vocal phrasing are in perfect unison. Absolute brilliance. Great feeling. The final 'a boy and goil' is the golden salute to New York. What a talent that woman was!

  • only Dinah can do justice to Manhatan or anything she sings

  • Surely the best version for this song

  • Thank you for this. Lovely. Try her rendition of "I understand."

  • such a beautiful tribute, not only to New York, but to the late, great, Dinah Washington. Could this lady sing or what?!

  • This song comes to the depth of my heart.Simply wonderful

  • Why would anyone say she is underrated? It is almost 50 years since she died and she is still known and listened too. That is a pretty good rating to my mind. I first heard her in 1950 and am still thrilled every time I hear her voice.

  • @navigator1944 most singers with her talent would have had bigger hits, made more money..and she always had to stay in black hotels when she travelled

  • Dame of American songbook

  • Simplesmente FENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! obrigada por postar. Sylvia.

  • this is the soul music at its best

  • Oh Dinah. So lovely. Every generation has to appreciate a woman as talentated as this. The simple pleasures of the 50s: eating a baloney sandwich and riding the subway.

  • Best version ever. Last song on a slightly meloncoly 1982 movie ''the tempest''. I was a teen then and this song made me appreciate oldies music.

  • This song is timeless and so is the singer- Love you Dinah

  • He is right. Growing up in the 60's was great! These days, i can't even sleep, and it really doesn't look like the kids these days have so much fun either

I love NY, but it will never be the same.

I like the music of today, but when I hear something like this, it makes todays music sound like crap.

  • It's almost 5 AM and for some reason I can't sleep. this song had just popped into my head. Yes, my mom used to play it just strolling around the house in Brooklyn like she didn't have a care in the world. A single mom with 5 kids. An easier time.

  • great song! fabes from the UWS (upper west side) in Manhattan...

  • Divino, uma preciosidade.Parabens

  • What a super voice,a great talent.

  • Just kickin it here with a cigarette and a Cutty on the rocks listening to this. Takes me back to my childhood with my Dad and Uncles hearing these records in the back yard, playing poker and me and my brothers wrestling in the backyard. I pass by that house now which we had immaculate and it looks like a third world ghetto now and breaks my heart. No one speaks english there anymore

The early 60's was a great time to grow up in.

  • this song is sooo romantic i love Dinah and i love Ole skool Jazz!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, she`s a great singer! I like this song from her in particular. Take care!

  • Again, she's underrated. This is yet another brilliant recording by Dinah. Love it.

  • musica preferida de Ligia

  • My too
