Hi. I'm using logic express 9 and I have a set of speakers hooked up to imac. when i try to record audio using my acoustic guitar or electric just wanting to use the built in microfone it doesnt pickup the sound. I had chosen empty project and put the setting on no input as i wanted to use the built in mic. when i have it on input 1 instead a squeeling sound comes out of the speakers like the feedback of an electric guitar. What am i doing wrong?
@steveo2619 Why do you use the built in mic????? you should plug your guitar directly into the computer, get a plug - miniplug adaptor and plug it in directly (right beside the headphones input). You'll get a much better audio quality than with the built in mic..... dont forget to turn on the monitorization to listen yourself!!!!!!! Then, Logic has Amp simulators and pedals and effects that are pretty good, and will be quite useful......
@steveo2619 Anytime!!!! you'll get the best audio quality if you plug it directly into the computer.... The built-in mic is used for chat, and voice recording, etc. Not for music recording, otherwise, you would listen yourself breathing, the door slamming or somebody's footsteps behind you..... if you plug in the guitar directly, youll just get the guitar.... try to put it through a mixing console, it'll improve the audio quality even more. If you dont have one, you'll have to record it in mono
thanks again. i did notice cause i did manage to record the acoustic somehow cant even remember nor could i figure it out again but the plates klining in the background while table was being set was louder than the guitar which was annouying. thanks for ur help i will look into buying that cable to plug it in directly. :)
Thanks for posting. Before I go out and get a new computer I'm trying to see if I can get Logic Express 7 to run on my old Powerbook G4 with a 1Ghz CPU. Do you think it would work OK. I should mention that it has 2GB RAM and runs 10.4.11.
it will run fine under that configuration, I run Logic Pro 8 on my Power Mac G5 with 3.5 GB of RAM, also under 10.4.11. Let me know how it works out for u.
Could be many reasons: 1) Are u setup to listen through your computer audio speaker(s)? 2) Are your drivers for Logic setup to connect to the right outputs (computer speakers vs external monitors) 3) Are you trying to listen through headphones and if so, what are they hooked up to...mixer? digital audio interface? 4) Is the volume turned up on the computer as well as in Logic? Follow?
logic express really pisses me off. when i tried to get audio to come thru my speakers it just went thru the computers built-in ones. so about 6 months ago i gave up and used GB, but i would love to use logic express instead. no one could help me out lol.
course. ive tried it all. i can get sound thru them for itunes gargeband and all that jazz but doesnt work in logic e. anyways any more suggestions welcome
I'm looking into a mac, either a Powerbook G4 at 1.67 ghz and 2 gb of ram, or a Macbook at 2.0 ghz and 2 gb of ram. What would you recommend? I'm looking to run Logic Express.
In my opinion the Macbook 2.0 would be worlds faster! I've tried it on a 1.5 Ghz G4 and a MBP 2.0, and the Macbook was several times quicker. But get the most RAM you can afford either way.
What would you recommend to interface MIDI and 16 track AUDIO in, using Logic 8 with a G5, 2.0 GH, dual processor using Leopard. It seems this is an area that few know little about. I have made quite a few post about this subject, and still no responses to date. I am making great strides doing my own research, but still looking for input from Logic 8 users who are serious about their music in getting the most out of Logic 8.
I got the US-122 tascam I am using on logic pro 8. my problem is 1) when I talk in mic I can't hear nothing on cpu/speakers 2) my computer built in mic works I don't want to use that Im tryna figure out how to disable cpu mic and use my external mic threw interface. 3) wen My Cpu mic records; logic records vocals but I dont hear my own voice during recording but it records when I play back. 4) at first evrything worked good mic with interface what did I do for it not 2 work nomore?? help! help
Had the same problem w fastrac pro. try plugging your speakers or headphones directly into your interface, not the computer(like in garageband). Has something to do with differences between midi and audio data from the 2 programs. hope it helps.
am i missing something? i have an imac 24inch 2.8ghz, an mc303 and fast track pro usb. I hook up the 303 to the fasttrack but i cant hear the output!!! the midi light is showing 'in' but not 'out'
What u need to do is make sure when you plug the audio interface in, your Sound Preferences output goes to Headphone, so you can hear the audio output through the Mac (i have external AC powered speakers hooked up to the Mac's headphone 1/8" jack). I use my audio output through my audio interface only when I do my podcasts because I have my headphones plugged in the audio interface to monitor my podcast tracks and voice through my headphoones.
Hey, I have a Powerbook G4, MC-303 and was looking to buy the same Keyboard (thats how i found this video), but I have had problems connecting my MC-303 to my laptop, any advice.
All u need to do is get an digital audio midi interface (USB or FW) and u are set. The interface should have at least a MIDI IN if not both IN and OUT, as well as USB or FW to pass MC-303 audio into the Powerbook
Here, I am using none. The audio output is coming from the headphone jack of the Powerbook to some computer speakers. On the road I will either use my M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio MIDI interface or M-Audio FW410 if I need two mic inputs
Yeah I'm tired of mine too, I'm getting rid of it (and a lot of my other gear) to improve on my setup. I'll have a look at your other videos mate, I'm eager to hear what you can get out of an 808.
I dont know of any tutorials for Logic 7 Express, but the Mac Pro Video series is good for learning Logic 7 (I have that series). Frankly, I've collected LOTS of YouTube videos that sometimes do an even better job. I burned all of them to CD
the series hey? ive got my self 2, beginners and advanced. what else can i get and where can i get them. Ive bought my two off ebay, the only place i could find them. Im actually trying to learn how to sample using logic... ah say cutting up audio files. and using samples. etc... maybe you can help?
Luke, a couple of places to look. Peachpit Press has books on Logic 8 and 7 that will allow u to become a certified trainer. Check Digital Media and Groovebox Music. I find the best videos are done here on YT by sflogicninja, mrmig, and drewpearson...awesome vids and free!~
You have to load the drivers into the Mac. Once that is done, you should see the drivers set in Audio MIDI Setup after you run Logic Setup Assistant. From there you should be good to go. Make sure your audio inputs in Audio MIDI Setup are for your interface, not Built-In Audio.

I have that same m-audio keystudio 25 keyboard :) and i really want logic express for mac but im still stuck with garageband '09

@ElevatorToTheStars Maybe u can find an older version of Logic Express. I still use Garageband 3! (but only for podcasting)

how can i save it so i can upload it on my myspae?
JordanWieber 1 year ago
Once u finish the track in Logic, bounce it to an .mp3 and if you have a connection to the internet, upload it to myspace.

You'd best use an audio interface, which basicly just an external audio card that you hook up to the firewire, USB or carbus port. Plug in yer guitar or mic into the interface and you're set.
