  • Do you have to tie down or secure the windshield to the hood so it doesn't bounce around when off roading?

  • @polishcrab yes you do. in the center of your hood is a loop. and in the center of the inside of your windshield is a loop. tie them together.

  • what's that blue car at the back @ 1:54?

  • @japster1113 a 1984 ford yard jockey.

  • yo man. come join jkfreaks . com. use ludski as a referral, id love to post this video up there. but would like to have you do it so you can get some credit for it.

  • @redbulljoker thanks for the invite bro. i joined.

  • It's a good thing Daisy Duke didn't have a JK. All I can think of is in Dukes of Hazzard whenever someone would shoot her Golden Eagle windshield she'd just kick it down.

  • Is that Legal the Street?

  • @buttmanroad Hell no thats not street legal. it is in my willys but not in a wrangler. lol. i wish it was its kinda fun.

  • can you legally drive it on-road that way?

  • @alamir970 no, cant drive like that on the street. i drive my Willys like that all the time.

  • Wow that was ridiculous. Also it looks bad down now cuz of the curved glass. good vid but I wouldn't bother doing that ever.

  • Thanks for posting this video, explained very well and to the point. I most likely won't ever do this now, due to the work involved and the warnings. My grandpa had a '79 (?) CJ5 and it had a thin wind shield that went down much easier and laid down more flat. Thanks again

  • "electronical" stuff?? hehe. Good video, very helpful

  • @pilotemtnils hahahahaha yea.... it was really hot and had been a really long day. i know i sounded like a dumb arse. lol

  • i was wondering how this worked.

now I see that it is a lot of work. and a not so nice looking finish

  • @chuppoacobra you're right but the look isn't what its about. Its what it does. You're able to have a lil mire view out on the trail. Its also fun to drive like that. In the end its really more fun than anything. Thanks fir watching.

  • this video was so worth while thanks so much man.

  • the Rubicon package has a similar folding process to the CJ's

  • @Fordfanforlife777 the Rubicon and CJ are nothing alike........ a Rubicon body is the same as a X, SPORT, SAHARA, or any of the other TJ's or JK's made. The Rubicon is just as much as a pain in the neck as any other Jeep. The CJ is totally different.

  • @mikeg576 I'm talking about TJ's . sorry should have probably told you that. but I still thought the Rubicon package on the JK's had a different folding style.

  • @Fordfanforlife777 nope they're all the same. the TJ and the YJ were similar but even those were a pain in the neck. the CJ's were just 2 screws. thanks for watching bro.

  • @mikeg576 good video. thanks for the info!

  • The 2 dislikes are from an FJ owner and Hummer owner.

  • That's alot of gayness to fold down your windshield guess Chrysler didn't want soccer moms folding their windshield. You have a family roll bar not a sport bar there is a difference.

  • @dan379 if you know so much why is your channel empty? Just sayin....

  • Seems like a lot of trouble.

    Hardly seems worth it.

  • @macman1138 Well as I see it there is no other "truck or suv" that is as easy to do as the wrangler. Speaking of new, not older trucks/suv's. 2007 and up the jeep is easy compaired to anything on the market. That's enough reason for me to keep folding it down.

  • @GetALifePleaseThanks Lol :) I don't hate the TJ. I've had cj,s YJ's, TJ's, and 2 JK's.

  • @GetALifePleaseThanks Yup, our cj's only have 2 latches. They're real jeeps. ;) lol.

  • @mikeg576 yeah.. made before jeep went all soccer-mom, im looking for a CJ5/7, or maybe even an old WWII willies

  • @megadeth22885 ... The wrangler is not socket mom. I have 4 door jk's. I also have a 1945 Willys. The Jk is a great jeep and from my experence with all the jeeps iv owned is they are the best jeep they have ever made.

  • @GetALifePleaseThanks And I only flip 2 latches!

  • awesome. thanks for the quick reply. just got a 2011 Ruby...600 miles on it and it's already covered in mud. I need a lift kit. If you have any ideas, let me know.

  • Where does it scratch?

  • @mcrowder3 When you remove the roll bar and windshield brackets it's easy to drop something or slip with a wrench.

  • Thanks for the video. Really good information. You probably won't believe this but my key dropped down that gap between the dash and the windshield... With plent of trepidation of paying the dealer, I looked at your video and retrieved my keys. I'd like to add, I have 2009 Jeep 4D (JK?) where removal of the mirrors on a 2009 JK requires a star head not phillips. Are you in Annapolis or Aberdeen?. Thanks again

  • @williwombat1066 Sweet, Thanks! I'm glad i could help! I'm in Aberdeen.

  • What is the use of the windshield to be folded down?

  • @Californiway It makes getting slapped by tree limbs more pleasurable and at highway speeds you get to eat more bugs,it's an aquired taste.

  • We really need those half-doors, but I heard Chrysler makes it a pain to order.

  • @zaitcev Correct. If you order the 1/2 doors from jeep you can only order them part by part. It's a waste of time and money. Go to quadratec and order the bestop super doors for the jk. I got them for my new 4 door. The cost for all four is approx 850.00. That's nothing compaired to buying 4 jeep 1/2 doors w/ uppers.

  • @zaitcev Correction... Half door kits are now sold ready to paint and instal. Or you could just get a set of bestop super doors. That what I did last summer.

  • Great Video. Very informative. letting people know about the cons to this as well as some of the considerations is important and its good to hear that you didn't overlook it versus telling people, "Here's how you do it and knock yourself out". Good step, but step to. I like it.

  • Do you know how to take the door's off? If so can you make a video?

  • @letseewhathappens101 i can do that. it may take me a few days but i'll do that and a soft top for a 2 door and 4 door. thanks for watching.

  • @letseewhathappens101 Alright thanks and theres no rush I don't have my jeep wrangler yet.

  • I am so going into the dealership and demand that they demonstrate how to fold the windshield down on a brand new wrangler. I just want to see them struggle and then give up and tell me it can't be done.

  • @christinafree1 The dealerships isn't allowed to show you. I'm a sales person and all I can do is tell the it folds down. There are too many people out there that will fold it down, mess something up & blame the dealer or Jeep. That's one reason it's so much of a pain to flod it down.

  • Good instructional video! Thanks for taking the time to make this video Mike G. Jeep doesn't even cover how to do this in the owners manual and the guys at the dealership don't have a clue...

  • @cainet777 thanks. Jeep doesn't want to tell you just encase people start messing stuff up. Most dealers don't know how and don't care. At my dealership I show everyone how to do everything before the drive off my lot. I don't sell Jeeps because I'm a car salesmen. I sell them because it's fun to play with Jeeps all day for a living. I'm glad you liked the vid. I'll be making more for the soft top for the 2007-2009 & 10's.

  • awesome vid, but I agree, im glad i have a TJ, wayyyy easier to take off!! It's so awesome cruising the beach/streets/highway, topless,door-less, and windshield-less!!

  • Thats pretty interesting.. it looks kinda ugly though =/ Doesnt really look "Jeep" like like that. Although, I'm a fan of the JK's now :)

  • Thanks for the vid man.

  • Learned a new word. "electronical". Jk. Nice vid

  • Yea Yea Yea... it was a long day at work 100 degrees outside and 110 in my shop. at the time i was a welder, and I'm from Baltimore. LOL.

    thanks for watching.

  • Hi, my jeep wrangler sahara 2.8 crd ( i live in europe ) my bolts have a bit of rust please help me

    addxboss

  • PM sent............

  • @mikeg576 hey my front bolts on the side are rusting to what did u send the other guy?

  • @Sink30 thats strange. i havent had any issue with anything rusting other than my scratches and big dents, lol. i would stop by your local dealer and pick up new bolts. the black paint on them isnt paint they're anodized.

  • @mikeg576

really... thats sooo weird? like the bolts have turned white and there is a washer behinde it and i believe that is what is starting to rust. but thanks a lot

  • @Sink30

the washers are on all the jk's. they shouldn't make anything rust. id just check with your dealer. i can check my parts dept and see how much $ and if i have them here. i can have my guys here @ Adams Jeep send them to you but it would be cheaper if you got them @ home.

  • @mikeg576

ok thanks so just go in and ask for some new bolts? or like what?

  • @Sink30 Yup. If you came into my shop with the problem I'd take care of it somehow. Talk to your parts guy. Is you local jeep dealer cool? Just tell them you need replacement bolts and make them look at the bolts you have now. That way they give you the right stuff. I can see what it would cost for me to help you but I'm 1/2 way down the east coast of the US near Baltimore Maryland . It's up to you if you want me to see what I can find for you and then pay shipping for bolts.

  • @mikeg576 hey my front bolts on the side are rusting to what did u send the other guy?

  • Do you drive with the seat like that? You're practically laying down...

  • No I had the seat like that when I took the roll bar off. It made it easier to get to the bolts. After I was done with the vid I had to put it all together. Thanks

  • Good Video Mike. I didn't see the REAL reason for the fold down windshield, so here it is: During the war, the army needed a way to quickly transport their wounded on stretchers, and with the windshield folded, it allowed them to lay a person flat across the hood & seats.

  • Thank you. I was hoping someone would chime in with the correct answer! I'm glad someone out there knows the answer and care enough to speak up! Thanks for watching. Happy Jeeping!

  • I guess when they made JK models, those folks dying on the battlefield were not as much of a consideration LOL

  • Ha! I had to laugh when I saw that your Jeep had dimples just like mine from where the door mirrors "kissed" the hood. The first time I saw mine I thought someone hit my jeep with a baseball bat some jackass in a lifted F150 opened his door onto my jeep.

  • That's funny I thought the same thing about the dents when I first saw them. Stupid jk sheet metal, lol.

  • wheeling with the windshield folded down is awesome...

  • totaly useless

I mean yes good video well explained but folding the windshield has no use, or does it!?

  • @b0utch its fun.....it's something jeeps have always been able to do.

  • @mikeg576 just for fun!? okk I think back in the wwII they would fold it when the windshield was too cracked so they couldnt see tru it!?

  • The war dept had many reasons to have a foldable windshield. Many ww2 vehicles had foldable windshields. Do you own a Jeep? Or are u on YouTube just tring to pick arguments?

  • @mikeg576 I was just wondering, no i dont own a jeep currently

  • O, okay. Well you really can't understand then. Jeeps arn't for everone. I wouldn't be caught dead in a BMW or Benz. Only in a jeep. I wouldn't expect you to understand if you don't own one.

  • @mikeg576 .... bullshit

  • Bullshit to what? That I don't expect you to understand since you're not a jeep owner or that I wouldn't be caught dead in anything other than a Jeep? You'll need to be a bit more exact on the direction of the "bullshit".

  • @b0utch It's for visibility, and back in WWII it was for storage as they had no roll bar so the windshield dropped the height of the vahicle by about 12 inches. With the windshield down you can see a lot more

  • Great video. Keep jeeping, I was just blessed with a JK rubi 2010. I am going to get it plenty dirty and guess what? it's my first one. So to all of you out there who act like you were born riding in a jeep, let's remember we all had to start somewhere and in something. So... lay off the criticism, how about being helpful and welcoming to those who have the same right to enjoying this thing we call life?

  • Wow that looks as retarded as you sound what an idiot lol

  • @coolstuff4sale1

uuuhhhh ok? at 38 years old i guess you feel the need to try to trash people to make yourself feel like less of a looser? i see your youtube channel is full of coolstuff4sale(lol)......

    what ever,

thanks for watching and your worthless input.

  • That looks retarded your an idiot

  • @coolstuff4sale1 wow man you need help

  • do you think you can please make a video of how to remove the doors? ive been looking all over youtube and there is not a single video that shows the process... thanxa

  • 25falcons

it's a little too cold to do it now but i will at some point. its not hard to do. undo the bolts on the hinge pins, unplug the door power or buzzer and unhook the ancor. then lift them off.

  • why dont you take off a few more bolts and put a cj body up there. It would be easier next time.

  • Who would put electric windows in a jeep ( and then I thought oh, that is for the people that want to look like they have a jeep when in fact its never been of the pavement before. they probably put fake mud on the sides. haha city slickers

  • I don't see any of your videos of you and your Jeep? If you look at my other videos you will see I have owned many Jeeps. CJ's, YJ's, TJ's, and now a JK and 1 of the 1st CJ's ever made. I use all of my Jeeps off road and always have. Why don't you post some of your videos of your Jeep wheeling so you can show just how much better your Jeep is than any of mine. Or maybe your just a internet/youtube troll.

    thanks for watching

  • Dude, this video sucks. You didn't explain WHY you were folding the windshield on to the hood and leaving it there. Does it come off? Or do you just leave it on the hood to flop around and get smashed while driving. And you folded it down because ... WHY? You never explained the purpose.

  • I'm sorry i didn't hand feed u a reason y the windshield was folded down. Jeeps have folding windshields & have since November 13Th 1940. I folded it down because i can. If u would have put forth the same amount of energy in common sence as u did typing this message u would have seen that there's a loop on the hood & a loop on the windshield. that's where u tie it down. Please tell me you don't own a Jeep! If u do find the salesmen that sold u the Jeep and slap him/her 4 not teaching u. thank u

  • They dont make jeeps anymore.

  • sure they do, i sell them every day.

  • thanks 4 the vid, i want to do it, but its alot of work. definatly not a Willy.

  • Even a YJ was a lot easier to do!

  • thanks for the post after i watch this i did it in about 30 min, i love jeeps man they are awesome no vehicle like it!

  • Thanks for the video. I've contemplated doing this, but always wanted to see it done first.

  • its a great idea- but it takes way to long to do

  • there really is no point for jeeps today to still feature a collapsable windshield

  • OK???

  • Wrong the are for when you don't have a roll cage driving through the jungle or dense forest they do have a purpose

  • You must not have a drive-in theater in your town =P

  • was there ever a point? its just good fun

  • Hey Mike- - Gotcha!

  • 12 bolts just for the hinges!...plus all the other crap...one more reason to just buy a used TJ or LJ! Maybe the aftermarket will come out with something to simplify the process a bit.

  • THAT'S A BAD ARGUMENT. NOTHING WORTH DOING IS EASY. & YES there's a lot of unbolting 2 be done on a jk. real factors 2 keep u from folding a windshield down r leaks on electric crap. it's just as bad on a tj or jk. tj's have 6 bolts just on the sport bar, 2 inside the windshield, 4 on the hinges, and 2 more count for the wipers needing to be removed. if u have a 05/06 then theres a bunch of plastic bessels on the windshield a-pillar just like the jk. those need 2 b removed also. thanks.

  • It's not that bad on a TJ, at least not my '98. There are 4 bolts on each sport bar for a total of 8, but once I took those off I left them off. Other than that, there's just 1 bolt on each hinge that needs to be removed in order to fold down the windshield. I replaced those with knobs so I don't even need tools. The wipers have quick-disconnects so that's real easy. Grand total: 10 bolts (2 for me) and 2 quick discos.

  • nice vid, i dont think ill be doing it this time of year haha but i will at least try it once or twice. Do you know if its illegal to drive around town with it down?

  • no its illegal. unless your driving a old willys like a mb or cj2a which are historic its against the law for clear safey reasons. it's a little cold now but its great off road or on the beach!!

  • ok well thanks again ill be trying it out next time i go to the gorge!

  • awesome, im doing this in summer

but taking the doors off too =)

  • Dude, I have one of these and after seeing this video I proble wont ever attempt it. That would totaly suck if a quick storm pops up. Good Luck with yours.

  • yea getting stuck in a storm would suck in a jk w/ the windshield down. thats why i only do it when its a nice day. i've done it so many times it doesn't take me very long anymore. thanks for watching.

  • Since I baught my '08 Rubicon Unltd back in April I always wondered about this and how to do it. After watching about half of this video I said to myself..."F**k that".

LoL. It's like you're dissasembling it.

  • yea just about. i still do it just cause its fun. thanks for watching.

  • F-That! LOL

  • i have an 03 tj not too bad but what a pain in the ass plus you could fry the electronics bummerama

  • Unfortunately that is way too lame, and so many steps to remove. I have a JK now and will never fold down the windsheild. My old CJ took about 30 seconds to fold down the windsheild. Unscrew 2 thumb screws and fold down, they made this way too much of a hassle to do. Thanks for the video though.

  • yea it can be a pain. my yj's were much easyer and my willys has 2 latches. it is nice to have a jeep that can do this and have a nice 100,000 mile warrenty daily driver.

  • Nice ding in the fender from the mirrors!! I probaly would have done that too if I hadnt read all the warnings in the forums. Thanks for the video too. I might try this in my 08 JK.

  • yea i read the post on the jkfourm but didn't apply it in real life... weard i heard that same thing in my years in school, lol.

  • Thank you! Very useful.

  • Very cool.Great job.

  • well put

    thanks fir sharing
