  • woah! that was badass!!!

  • v good nice django solo

  • Just can't listen to this song without smiling- and JJ really nailed it- brilliant!!!

  • JJ is KING! Go see him whenever possible. Exhilerating.

  • that's the kind of range I like, from Buck Owens to Django Reinhardt

  • This is absolutely awesome!!!! This is a note by note tribute of both, Django and Stephane's solos. Both, masterpieces on their own. Listen to the crowd cheer and get excited over music composed on the fly, pure improvisation, done almost 70 years ago...I still got the goosebumps here...Fantastic interpretations by John and his fellow violin player. hats off!

  • animal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • amazing, amazing

  • awesome

  • I can't imagine a more fitting tribute to Django and the Hot Club Quintet. JJ is an amazing player.

  • The man shreads his balls off

  • wow !!!!!

  • It's like watching Django play!!

  • Wow he played this flawlessly. A nice tribute to Django.

  • Opinions are like assholes eveyone has one right? Wheres your video or is your talent in tour mouth.

  • This is one of my favorite vids on youtube!

  • When you play someone elses tune note for note, you are giving the original performer / writer the greatest compliment. You feel adding or subtracting would be an injustice. Clearly this guy could have altered this tune to his liking if he wanted to. Those that call this "just a copy" I believe have missed the whole point. They do a nice job of the tune.

  • You got that right my friend. I have seen John up close and personal several times, there is nothing this guy can't do with a guitar and he is a true Django disciple. He played Django in a movie and went so far as to learn all of his tunes with only two fingers to be authentic.

  • @t4kne I totally agree, that's the same reason I played Minor swing note for not..but someone didn't like that..

  • ive heard some stochelo leaks in his solo

  • that's the django's solo

  • Wow. This guy is impressive.

  • What kind of transducer pickup is that on John's guitar?

  • Tobbemann, this IS impressive. What R U talking about? If you can copy a master, then you've got my thumbs up. Though, is Limehouse a Django? I play the banjo and do Don Reno's Limehouse Blues. I was looking to see how it was done on guitar so I could play with my brother, and I see everyone mentioning Django. You guy's should check out Don Reno's Limehouse Blues on banjo if you like this!

  • Why is this impressive. I usually love Jorgensons stuff but this is just a django copy. This got nothing to do with improvised music, allso known as jazz.

  • To me there is no merit in recreating someone else's solo in a live performance. Sure, do it at home for the technical challenge but if you play jazz you should try to make each piece your own.

  • John Jorgenson is clearly able to rewrite Django's solo, but I think his point is to pay homage to the master.

  • The most stunning thing is that he's using two fingers only, as Django did !

Loved his stuff with the Hellecasters, but this is top of the line ! Jazz on steroids. And the violin solo was no less impressive.

  • Django's improvised solos are so immortal. I wonder if he ever thought people would be playing them note for note 70+ years later as they do, or should I say aspire to do with such greats as LImehouse, Dark Eyes, Minor Swing, The Sheik of Araby, etc.etc. You know what I mean? Did he ever get done with a solo, and think, "Ah yes -- they'll be playing that one forever . . " I wonder.

  • The violinist played Stephan Grapelli's whole solo! And Jorgenson played Django's orginal solo as well lol

  • yes i think he can play a Polka^^

  • Love this video...

  • Great John!!!

  • yeah very close, the notes are all there, only the phrasing needs some improvement. Among non-gypsies, the only other piece I've heard this close was one Knoppfler did a few years ago. Unfortunately, the computer I downloaded that piece to for free from Audiogalaxy, was lost in a move, so I don't remember the name of the piece. I know Jorgensen does many Django pieces though, so I'll have to check into his stuff more.

  • YEAAH ! THE ORIGINAL SOLO's , wow , it sounds so much like the django solo

  • Thanks Trevor for the send over.

    Awesome sound

    Thanks

    Art

  • Ya, okay thats all good, but can he play a polka?

  • Insane!

  • that guitar solo is almost identical to django's recording!!!

  • great violin!!

  • He really sounds like Django.

    Freaking smooth. Bravo

  • GREAT JOHN , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

  • Oh yes...Jon plays this sweet.

  • No credits for anyone else in the band?

Come on. Do the right thing.

  • pffffffffffft.

  • John is fabulous as always. Its an enjoyable video. I was just curious as to who the other musicians might be. The fiddler is awesome.

  • stephan Doudache Is the guys name(I know I have spelt that wrong!

  • Ah, "Dudash" he's great. I did a search for Jorgenson quintet. There's some great videos to be found. Check out Jorgenson with Orchestra. Alexander Fedoriouk rocks!

  • I jhve the quintettes dvd that is available on Johns website live from Italy---it is really something else. I saw him a month later in Samois and he was fantastic, the stories that he tells in between tracks are really informative..For example 'vipers dream' is actually about pot smoking, not snakes. A Viper was slang for a person who loved smoking gear

  • Damn that was near note for note!

  • Very nice solo!!!

  • man this would make the master himself well pleased very nice indeed!
