No, emo started in the late 80's as a sub genre of hardcore around 1984 when bands like the Rites of Spring and Moss Icon showed up. That whole scene kid thing is just a gay MTV trend and as for indie going mainstream thats already happening.
indie is mainstream now. indie was perfect throughout the very late 80s and well into the 90s was the best body of work. sebadoh, neutral milk hotel, built to spill, early modest mouse, etc.
Love this song, the entire song from start to finish is an epic adventure. Most think it's just noise but there's so much melody and riff goodness in this song it takes several lessons to mentally dissect. Infinitely more fulfilling then the usual 4/4 rubbish :P

The meaning of the term 'emo' as it is used nowadays is very different from what it used to mean and is used to mean here. Rites of Spring would probably be a better example of old emo though.
