Whether you view it as earned or not the GI Bill IS still a social program that allowed you to move up. Given that welfare programs are paid for by taxes how is it a free handout? People on welfare still have to pay taxes like everyone else. In most states you have to be employed to get welfare. And above all else - MOST BLACK PEOPLE AREN'T EVEN ON FRIGGIN' WELFARE. 23% of African-Americans are middle class, 3% are wealthy and most of the rest are low-income but employed and above welfare level. Your welfare theory doesn't make sense.

The top 10% pay less than 40%+ of all taxes combined despite owning 80% of the nation's wealth. Sounds like the bottom is getting shafted and the top is getting a free ride. Which is exactly what's going on.

I just saw $438k a house today go on the market for $275k after foreclosure. This affects the value of the value of the homes in the neighborhood which is equity. It also caused harshly strict lending controls bringing development and growth in to screaching holt.
