  • No problem - I am pleased that you posted this extract from the wonderful recording that Klemperer made of Mahler's 2nd Symphony. I heard this symphony conducted by Klemperer in May 1971 at the Festival Hall in London. I attendend both performances and the rehearsals - I shall never forget that.

  • This is NOT Schwarzkopf - of course!

  • i apologize for the error

  • @klemperer10 What?! Are you sure?

  • Are you sure this is with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf singing the alto part? I thought it was Hilde Roessl-Majdan the contra alto for the recording. I am not a singer, so I may not be hearing all the timbre, but I don't think I hear Schwarzkopf's unique silvery voice.

  • Blaugrun, sorry I cannot write German hope you understand English. Klemperer was interviewed in the early 196o´s by John Freeman at that time the best interviewer on UK ,tv. He asked Klemperer "why when we listen to you conduct Mahler and then listen to the same piece conducted by Bruno Walter it could have been written by two different composers". Klemperer answered , "Walter is a romantic , I am not."

  • Lovely!
