  • what is the judge from night court doing in the studio with Voivod?!?!

  • what is the judge from night court doing in the studio with Voivod?!?!

  • Angel Rat was the best evah!

  • Wow...Good!

    Love the studio version (/watch?v=deyRqAmfMBw)

    5/5

  • Nothingface was a mature album and the expectations were pretty high for the followup album.

It wasn't what I had been hoping for since I was still in a mental state of liking heavier music. Such is life.

  • Thank you for that Video :)

  • seen them live last night!

  • What a superb guitarist Piggy was - sadly missed.

  • 100% amazing! thanx 4 posting!

  • I am very glad you posted this. Not a lot of footage of this monumental band. My favourite Voivod album to be sure.

  • WOW!! I have never seen this before. Thank you to whoever posted this!

Angel Rat is a MASTERPIECE. I loved it when it came out (grunge or not) and I love it nowadays.

I have met Piggy a few times and he was alway so nice, polite, and good to talk to.

I miss him and his amazing guitar playing. R.I.P. Piggy.

    Long live VIOVOD.

The most underrated band in history. Especially in the late 80's early 90s.

  • When Angel Rat was 1st released, many fans (including me self) were disappointed coming off of Nothingface. I bought it on CD as a liquidated cutout for $1.45 plus tax!

Nowadays, I absolutely love the whole album.

Voivod are pure artists of originality. I miss Piggy.

  • ....none of the above.....

  • wow! Terry Brown and Voivod!

  • Old best time Voivod.1990-91.Angel rat is my best album

  • Killing technology , nothing face and angelrat are their best albums by far for all different reasons but dimension Hatross never pulled it for me :( I dont know why though tribal convictions was superb as a track

  • What a great band and great album. I accidentally discovered this band back in the days when you took a chance on an album because of the album cover art work. I discovered other bands like Magnum this way. Nothingface was pure heaven to me as an already established musician - angel rat was topping on the cake. I feel guilty on a daily basis of the monetary success that I have had. Bands like Voivod deserve it. Long live the Pig!!!!

  • He was technically a very good rock player. You're talking out of your behind!

  • Away is fucking incredible, his tom rolls are just god like. Personally not a lot of people like Angel Rat, but I would honestly say it's my third fav Voivod album, it's definetly a unique, and better step for them.

    R.I.P Dennis!

  • For me "Angel Rat" is one of their best albums, I have the tape version of that masterpiece!

  • it's so strange how a band like them, creative, coherent, growing and constant, was not ever able to reach the real success they deserve... this is incredible.

  • I rate Voivod as one of the few bands that Grunge killed that DIDN'T deserve it. Plus, we can all recognize Angel Rat as the masterpiece it is 18 years later, but at the time it was a real 'WTF?' LP: they simplified the arrangements and ditched the 'Voivod' lyrical concept - the very elements that brought them to the success they had achieved thus far.

It's a very 'mature' record and they clearly overestimated both the open mindedness of their fan base and the good taste of the mainstream.

  • Fuck grunge. Voivod never died. Never will.

  • grunge never killed Voivod, they existed at the same level throughout the late 80's and 90's, even after grunge had died itself.

  • Not true. Voivod's popularity exploded after 'Nothingface' which they tried to capitalize on with 'Angel Rat' which hit right before 'grunge' blew up (and immediately sucked). They were headlining over Soundgarden and Faith No More at one point!

The Eric Forrest era was definitely a step back (starting in '94 until '01) popularity wise, if not creatively ('Phobos' is AMAZING, Negatron, no). Jason Newsted's arrival definitely upped their visibility . So, no that's a definite ebb and flow.

  • @CeeLord76

Well I think what we have today is a pretty much a distorted prospective od the events.

Truth is till' 1988, thrash-metal fab-5 were: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax AND Voivod.

Later on, thrash-metal began its decline, starting with the shameful "Black album", and balances broke down.

Metallica went mainstream, Slayer barely kept their position, leaving the remaining 3 in the shadow.

But Voivod were worlwide recognised as thrash-metal kings..

    Cheerz

  • @novembrine1 well, you're talking about american thrash metal only, here...

you forget about the german triad: Sodom, Kreator and Destruction

about american thrash, anyway, you should not perceive only the Black Album as the "beginning of the end". I mean, the sign of the end was already clear with the Vio-lence album... then Machine Head (harshly criticized at their beginning for their Pantera-like-sound) killed thrash metal definitely...

  • this is what I recall of that period and Voivod, even if renowned worldwide for their music, never managed to live with music

  • @CeeLord76

No mate, I ain't forgetting them. It's just that, with the due adoration I have for the German fab-three, they never got as big as their American peers .

They were a lil step behind. That's all I meant!

Mmm.. dunno man, with all due respect, Vio-lence was a minor band and their album didn't move a leaf.

Machine Head, along with Pantera shouldn't even be mentioned. They're not even metal as far s I'm concrnd.

    Best

  • @novembrine1 I agree with you but I'll point out that:

yes, Vio-lence were a minor band, indeed but their debut signed the end of the thrash era. That was the last thrash album (one could like it or not, however)

and about the german bands being behind the american ones, well, it could be true in terms of fame but if we speak about worthiness, I believe it's up to ones personal tastes (but I think you speak about "fame")

  • Machine Head and Pantera are related to metal since the instruments played and the style involved is. But I agree that their attitude (at least for Machine Head) is not fitting that word.

  • Oh God. Thanks for Piggy. Rest in peace.

  • Me too! This album is one my favourites! Simply fantastic..

    *___*

  • i would love to hear this album remixed the way blacky claimed to have said it sounded at one point. some of the mixes here sound nice and raw (sound quality of the video aside).

  • WAY wrong. AWAY wrong. Try sitting behind a kit and attempt to play like Michel. Good luck.

  • you are dumbass that does even deserve to listen to such talent

  • At 3:00 they are recording the main "none of the above" riff. Man that is one of the coolest guitar riffs ever.

  • wrong.

  • Piggy is sorely missed. Blacky = GOD.

  • Away, Black, Piggy, Snake, the kings of thrash metal ultraunderground.

  • I just love that album. Still one of their best and I´d even compare it to Dimension Hatröss.

Sad thing that Piggy died, what a guitarist!

  • most inspiring guitarrist ever...

    Thanks Piggy

  • Piggy rules

  • That's a great clip. Thanks for posting it.

  • Great album..."Panorama" kick ass song...

  • "The idiot walks along a canvas...Sunday rendezvous; mister phobia...."

  • Awesome!... would like to see more of Blackie's work, but still it's really an awesome documentary. Post more thins like this gem... PLEASE!!!

  • wow thanks for posting that clip,

jamais j aurais imaginé voir ca un jour

    i can't beleive it.

  • I was in a band and we played with Voivod 2 times in quebec!! I'd like to jam again with them just to remember Piggy!!!

  • Great slice of history !

    RIP Piggy

  • One of the best records ever made.

  • Awesome vid, thank you. Angel Rat and Outer Limits are two of my all time favorite albums.

  • The production wasn't so great but it was still one of their best albums. Very heavy AND psychedelic.

  • Funny thing, I always Angelrat was their best album, except for the thin production. I blame the guy behind the console, because Outer Limits had great production. Damn, just watching this makes me want to grab both the old CDs and play.

  • grreat stuff

  • This is what I have been waiting for!

  • Awesome!

    Awesome!

    Awesome!
