  • I still have and use my rotary telephone.

  • growed up with one of these ...as a matter fact we still have it at the old home place on the same table in the liveing room and it still works

  • can you write txt messages with that? why the letters?

  • I actually still have mine but its broken.

  • You do know that you have to pick up the receiver BEFORE you dial, don't you?

  • Hi i'm 12 and what is this?

  • @griffontwosix26 It's a rotary telephone. It's somewhat like todays house phones (does the same job) except it uses a different method of dialing a phone number.

These were common place in almost every North American home during the 30s-60s.

    I still use one ;)

  • Strings of clicks are sent along the phone line for each digit. Click-click-click-click. Each click physically moves a rotary selector switch one step across 10 selector points, at the phone central office. Each digit moves a different rotary selector.

Clicks for each digit are sent when you RELEASE the dial, and click speed is regulated by a spring and governor inside the phone's dial mechanism.

(Speed governor on this dial sounds uneven, needs adjustment.)

  • still dont know how they work

  • Why no comments? I wish I had one of these phones!
