I think the incest part is due to the fact that there was much speculation about the sisters, including allegations that they were having an incestous lesbian affair with each other. (Wikipedia) It was a really interesting movie, albeit the ending was a bit brutal.

Well put. The practices of incest, homosexuality, and other forms of deviant sexual practices are expressions of mental illness within individuals. Many people live with these illnesses year after year, much like functioning alcoholics, yet their behaviors do in the long run destroy them.
While I reserve judgement on the homosexual front (I view it as something I don't understand, but don't call necessairly wrong) I do think incest is usually a sure sign that there *is* something wrong/ abberant. I just rented the DVD this weekend and found it great until the last 20 minutes. From that point on they implied too much. The performances were very good considering the script and problems the production seemed to have converting the original play to the screen in the last 20 minutes though!

I love this movie. And I agree that the sisters shared a deep love for one another. But the film was dark and haunting. And I just thought the song should have more of a dark/forbidden/haunting feel too it. My suggestion would be a song named " #1 Crush" by the band Garbage. It was a single they made for the motion picture soundtrack Romeo & Juliet in 1996. It has a real darkness to it. But Thank you for taking the time to make this clip. Its a great movie.

Really appreciate the feedback, & I actually agree with your point about the song, but I think that at the start of the movie the sister's relationship is romantic and brings them joy, but spirals out of control with Christine's jealousy & possessiveness. And I am really into the real-life sisters, & feel that their relationship had a much more positive & warm side to it, & wasn't as simplified as the movie made out. I was trying to show that, but maybe the song is a bad choice!

Well, This movie made think that it doesn't matter with they were sisters.. The society tell us that we couldn't do this or that.. but what's the problem? I think that it's like homossexuality.. some's think that it's gross.. but it's a thing that we can't handle.. We aren't making badly to nobody, just like them.
So, only the person who felt this knows.. We have to understand.. it's this that is lacking in the world: tolerance..

this is NOT a proper representation of the Papin sisters. They were grotesquely unattractive; almost man-like in apperance. This film has them as frail, cute, innocent, abused and misunderstood.

I just rented the DVD this weekend and found it great until the last 20 minutes. From that point on they implied too much. The performances were very good considering the script and problems the production seemed to have converting the original play to the screen in the last 20 minutes though!

I don't really see the problem...they were two consenting adults and weren't harming anyone (well, ok, only those that got in their way, which should be judged separately from their relationship, I believe). You and I may not engage in such relations with our blood sisters, but by doing what they wanted to do, they weren't harming anyone else. That's my take on it!

Yes mbbx6spp they weren't harming anyone but when i saw the title and the contents of the movie i can't say i was enthusiastic about it. I'm 15 and i have a smaller sister the thought only of such a relationship... well it's disgusting. However, Jodhi May is one of my favourite actresses and i'd like to see this movie. It would be interesting to see the performance of these 2 actresses.

I just feel an overwhelming need to defend private rights for private matters!:) However, this case is deeply interesting for an amateur criminal psychologist (like myself) for many reasons. I plan on watching this and Heavenly Creatures this weekend and will let you know what I think.

I'm afraid that I don't have the software to post it up, but if you are region 1 for DVDs, there are loads of reasonably priced DVDs and VHSs on ebay (that's where I got mine!), I'm afraid that region 2 DVD of "Sister My Sister" is very hard to come by indeed... Hope you get to see it!

I love this movie. And I agree that the sisters shared a deep love for one another. But the film was dark and haunting. And I just thought the song should have more of a dark/forbidden/haunting feel too it. My suggestion would be a song named " #1 Crush" by the band Garbage. It was a single they made for the motion picture soundtrack Romeo & Juliet in 1996. It has a real darkness to it. But Thank you for taking the time to make this clip. Its a great movie.

Really appreciate the feedback, & I actually agree with your point about the song, but I think that at the start of the movie the sister's relationship is romantic and brings them joy, but spirals out of control with Christine's jealousy & possessiveness. And I am really into the real-life sisters, & feel that their relationship had a much more positive & warm side to it, & wasn't as simplified as the movie made out. I was trying to show that, but maybe the song is a bad choice!
