That Avatar was even nominated for Best Picture of the year is beyond belief. Sure it was huuge and made the most $ of any movie ever, but it was not Oscars material except for visual effects, which it won. Best Picture should be reserved for quality story telling.

Adjusted for inflation, this is not the case. But it still made more money in the end. The money in James Cameron's pocket from Titanic does not adjust for inflation.

I think the genious is how the film manipulated the audience, using stereotypes, people that believe they are not racist, or have prejudgments about people, are effectively "tricked" in this movie, and shown that everyone to a certain degree is like that. what they did in that movie was not easy, it could have gone down miserably, but they did it right.

Not any good choices. Avatar was a remake of Dances With Wolves and was dumb. Hurt Locker was such a joke for reality. Too many people don't know that the EOD stuff was all wrong except the soldiers who saw it and hated it. Besides it had a dumb ending. But Hollywood likes things that are fictitious. With as much as they hate the military I'd put my money on Avatar. Best of both.
