The most important issue is that in this country of laws no one should be above those laws. We've a country full of greed and corruption that emanates from the top. What if you were a poor person in the ghetto or barrio and you were sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for selling a $20 rock. Now in prison you start reading and learn the HW smuggled tons of cocaine into Arkansas and Bill Clinton got his cut. Instead of going to jail they just got richer! We must prosecute the traitors!!!
Al-Qaeda is non-existence. The war on iraq is making america money so why withdraw the troops? There are contractors in Iraq right now setting bombs off and you people think its really sunni versus shia muslims - Its not. This is all a game and the media shows it all to you and you then beleive the lies.
Sadly the powers that be, will not let Obama become elected. These dog and pony shows are only meant to fool Americans into thinking they can choose the direction of this country. There will be another terrorist attack on USA conveniently linked to Iran which will Cause the elections to become suspended. The real vermin behind 911 will not miss this opportunity while their man Bush is in, bank on it.
cjhoekema: People don't LOOK at national security. Even though I'm an American and proud to be one, the majority of people here don't think and are just...dumb. They have NO idea who's who. Listen to this, they took a poll of what people think who the race is between. 40 percent of people in the U.S. think the presidential race is BETWEEN Obama and Clinton.
McCain is a man who will never back down, he'll get this job done. Al-Queda is gone in Iraq, the Taliban is nearly depleted
Just want to correct myself from my post below. I misread you and thought you were claiming Al-Qaeda was gone in Iraq. My apologies. With that said I'll add that you're fighting an ideology. The major cells in Iraq were gone but the US presence in Iraq has led to small groups of civilians forming their own cells. Brute force can not solve that. It's like trying to kill a religion. The only way neutralize those enemies is through diplomacy and education. Bullets can not kill ideas and beliefs.
I wish you were right about diplomacy and education. Unfortunately, you are not. The idea that poverty and ignorance are what lead to terrorism (and thus diplomacy and education will solve it) is contrary to fact. Take a look at the terrorism in Europe (e.g. Paris). You are right that ideology is the issue...you are wrong that diplomacy is the solution. Military containment and regional allies are the only effective tools for combating such deeply held hatred. It sucks, but it's true.
The Iraq war is going to be devastating to Barak in the General Election. Just listen to this interview! Peace, security, justice, stability...these things are totally outside the equation for him. He's fixed in a time table because he's beholden to the extreme left. He cares nothing about the effect of his policy...just that it's popular.
My assessment: He's lying. He can not and will not pull troops out.
The fact that he voted against the war is the stuff if trivial pursuit: IRRELEVANT
I think he's simply more interested in American interests than Iraq interests. Like he said, if they could not create peace, security, justice and stability in Iraq in 7 years it's not going to happen in 14 or longer. In the mean time American interests (ie: the economy) is suffering as a direct result. A long drawn out war is what killed the Soviet Union. It would be irresponsible to allow the same to happen to the US regardless of what excuse you use to justify it.
What killed the Soviet Union is bankruptcy, not a long drawn out war. Remember, the whole Star Wars thing? Reagan?
We are winning! It is this damn press and democrats that are ROOTING for our soldiers to fail. WE ARE IN A WAR AGAINST TERRORISM!!!!!! It's not a cold war, it's not a little skirmish, this is TERRORISM! Plain and simple. If we do not kill these sons of bitches, we will pay the price later! Peace isn't happening? How can you say that. Al-Queda is GONE in Iraq
If Al-Qaeda is gone in Iraq then you're not winning you have WON there and the focus should shift back to Afghanistan and the hunt for Bin Laden and other Al-Qaeda leaders and cells. You accuse Obama of not offering any answers but that proves you have not listened. He is not trying to stop the fight against Al-Qaeda. He has accused the war in Iraq of distracting the US from that objective. You're free to your opinions but you'd make a stronger case if you actually knew Obama's positions.
How dare she ask tough questions? How dare she ask him to flesh out his rose colored policies? How dare she push him to give real answers on the most critical issue our nation faces? And for that matter, how dare George ask him about a personal association with a man who thinks that bombing gov't buildings is an acceptable civic activity?
If I were supporting an empty suit, I'd also be mad at Merideth and George. They didn't get the 'give Obama a pass' memo.
I'm not responsible for ANY of the shit going on in Iraq, bob... let's get that straight. Fucking duh our goverment is made up of American people... who else would it be comprised of?? Just because its made up of Americans doesn't mean we all agree with the decisions being made in Washington. Dick Cheney can be quoted saying he doesn't care what Americans opposed to the war think about whats going on. Lumping us all together saying that it's all of our faults is completely retarded.
The "Media" now biased toward Hillary and of course "Old Man" McCain, are ATTACKING Obama and saying he not Hillary or McCain is "out of touch" with the people in small towns!....Obama, the ONLY candidate that is coming out to small towns and actually listening to their concerns and grievances so that he can fix them!
Now, the media is saying Hillary Clinton, born with a "silver-spoon" in her mouth, who is obviously all about herself, is more in touch.
The government is the people. I don't understand the difference ExRandomHero.Who makes up the government? American people. Your all responsible, accept it.
Dear sir. It is an unfortunate reality that the American Government has not been of its people for some time. It is in sense a civil war where control by a few has been seized during a period of apathy and blind trust.
The actions of the American government have represented from the outside an opinion that it is the common decision of the people, yet it has not been.
Lol, there's been war in the middle east longer than America has even been a country... what OUR GOVERNMENT, not the American people, have done is just another page in that unfortunate history. Don't hate America, hate it's current governing body. And please don't speak for a group of people you aren't apart of (unless you are Iraqi).
im not an american..but by being in Iraq, u have made the iraqi's, even those that didn't before 9/11, hate u...u have brought war to the middle east and so therefore, hatred of America spreads.
MeGoFast, seriously get out of here. Iraq is not a platform to fight Al-Qaida. Al-Qaida was based in Afghanistan and if we put the same effort we did in Iraq, as we did in Afghanistan, we would probably have killed/caught Osama bin Laden. Now he's probably hiding in Pakistan, where we can't do anything. Don't fool yourselves believing, we're making ourselves safer by staying in Iraq.
Look at this amazing movement that he's created and he's not even president yet. He's bringing ppl 2gether already for their hope of change and equality.
And that to me just shows how powerful him and his voice is.
It is too bad that we are in this war. In hindsight, I am sure that the government would not have done so. However, now that we are there, we have to be responsible. Pulling out our troops in a matter of 16 months will make a slaughter house of Iraq!
I can't beleive ANYONE would vote for Hillary after her latest LIE about the Sniper Fire!...Oh, wait there have been TWO MORE LIES that have come out since then!
But people are still entertaining Hillary Clinton, a narcissistic-sociopath!
The fact that Hillary's Pastor William Procanik got convicted on January 22, 2008 for CHILD MOLESTATION seems to be swept under the rug!
Rather the story is about a half-White man named Obama who secretively hates HIMSELF?
I would like to ask Mr. Obama if he realizes tht setting a time table, publicly, would lead to terrorists using that information for evil means. If MR. Obama really wanted a time table he would be trying to advocate for it BEHIND THE scenes, where it is more possible to make a difference. My assumption is because he is using the ANTI WAR movement to get elected and really has no solution to the Iraq problem. I anxiouslly await your response Mr. Obama.
I think that Mr Obama is inteligent enough not to release any kind of 'timetable' for a military withdrawl publicly for the reasons you just stated. Behind the scenes is more likley or he may just leave it at 'approx 16 months' after getting into office.
Oh and hes a politician, why not use the mandate of the people to get elected? thats kinda the point :)
Read the federalist papers....were a republic not a democracy. And if he "really " wants to make a difference and is doing it behind the scenes why does he keep requesting a PUBLIC timetable for withdrawl. Those two things are mutually exclusive. Please dont get offended these are legit questions I have.
dont confuse irak and bin laden.....again...and again... the mother that died on 11 sep...would be assamed to be an american,,,when people make a simple confusion...
Iraq is a platform to fight terrorist while NOT ON OUR SOIL. Are we not fighting AL QUEDA in Iraq right now? Isnt Al Queda a brain child of U.B.L.? Seems like you are a little confused, not me.
Sir, I think there are many places on earth that would harbor terrorists. Its quite possible that we are spending billions to take the target of the american people to the enemy, creating opportunity for them to kill, while spending our dollars to do so.
And quite frankly sir, terrorism is very easy, the true aspects may lie in prevention, and largely in understanding why attacks on us have to be sensational to be considered wins.
Barack Obama is just so smart! And so is his wife. I went to see her in Winston-Salem yesterday, and she was so great. It was such an inspirational speech.
obama u r d best!!!!! they arent bad at talkin in any way..na bt who knws wats on their mind? real plans n all.. only GOD. so Obama u rock ull continue 2. we r always gna b ther 4 u near or far well never 4get u in our prayers i am a MUSLIM n i am dead proud of it. OBAMA 4 BETTER AMERICA!!!!! all americans WANT N NEED PEACE n so do we all cuz BUSH is killin.. thats all he knws anyway. OBAMA 4 a BETTER WORLD.. we love u
Do you know, this war has no clear agenda so that the Generals, the Congress and the President can show we won it or lost it. With no agenda, we shouldn't even be in it. The ORIGINAL agenda or goal was to remove WMD and remove Saddam. Both have been accomplished, yet we are still there; we are still financing it and US soldiers AND non soldiers are still dying. These are Arabs. An arab is a semitic race that does NOT depend on the security of any consistency. You can't ask them to NOT be arabs..
I can't believe Youtube would let some retard like flakjacket69 post such comments about Obama. Tell the truth you fuck head!! You must be kissing Bush's ass and will be kissing McCain's ass soon!! What a Loser!!
Ur Mum taught U 2 speak nice, like a grown up white man. but you tend 2 be a dumbass. He is not a Muslim. which school did you go to? Thats why foreigners say Americans are ignorant bcoz you know the truth but you wanna make stupid argument. Say something true about Obama and oppose him from his stand, but don't just say ignorant ideas.
we? yes i do want to see everyones comments posted regardless of what they say. its called free speech, even if its a private channel on youtube. but i was wrong, right after i posted that i watched a video on the hilary channel. i was able to comment without it pending approval, and i was astonished.
mccain said "100 years in Iraq would be fine, as long as NO US troops were being harmed. that this is a very volitile part of the world"
Hes not saying 100 years of war. However it is completely unrealistic to imagine that we will not be attacked continuously over that 100 years considering the volitality of the region
it is our very presence in the region which incites anger and perpetuates attacks. therefore, by mccains own logic, we should pull out now because were being attacked now.
• Has a clear plan for solving the country's problems, 41% to 42%
• Has a clear vision for the country's future, 67% to 65%
• Would work well with both parties in Washington to get things done, 62% to 61%
• Is someone you would be proud to have as president, 57% to 55%
Obama won the traditional Democratic (and female) virtues of understanding problems. McCain won the Republican (and male) virtues of strong leadership and efficient management.
Obama needs to go bare knuckles with McCain and make it clear that he will be up to the task with pulling troops and restoring democracy.
He must win the Male vote in Pen State and the latest polls show the men are turning his way. Also he's getting the females to vote for him too as the gap in Pen State narrows to 6 points. Obama 08!
Danny, I think you need to ask your mom or wife whether she is: 1) a strong leader, and 2) an efficient manager. I daresay your dirty laundry & household are, or were, managed well by a strong and efficient manager.
Verified1; You assume that my mother or wife is a reflection of the rest of women in our society. I daresay what I stated is an accurate reflection of what's going on (It's being politically incorrect). I think you assume that the house and laundry is not shared like many households these days. Many women don't even cook or clean (it not the traditional norm and that's acceptable). They are more on the same footing leaving a house dirty. Thanks!
Danny, Thx for yr reply. I believe you mistook my point. As a feminist for over 50 ys, I've never accepted the theoretical framework that defines masculine & feminine "virtues." No matter how much you'd like to think it's not the case, most women in the world are responsible for cleaning, cooking & laundry. It would be naive to assume this isn't true. I'm sincerely happy to hear you share this role, but that's not usually the case, at least to a meaningful extent for most women in the world.
Verified1: Men and women around the world cannot be used as they live under different social systems. In the US there was a survey done that showed men's work in the Household has increased, but I believe many don't want to acknowledge that (the article didn't either because it was a back handed compliment with a whining tone that men are not doing enough). I totally disagree.
You have to look at what men do outside to compensate. Obama is a good leader who can unite. Thanks! Obama 08!
Danny, You said "Men & women around the world cannot be used.." Well, I just DID use them, lol. When we make a theoretical assumption that there are masculine & feminine "virtues", then all women & men are implied. Otherwise the logic fails. Nor can we use survey data that we've an opposite opinion about to support an argument. I also support BO & admire his debate skill. I just want our arguments to be defensible & have intellectual validity, which is why I'm giving you such a hard time. :-)
Verified1: I disagree. You used an old generalization which is not accurate. You are disingenuous if you use the world because I'm referring to US politics (Republican Vs Democrat). You should read things in context. This is the reason why many feminists get defensive and loose logic.
What I stated:
Obama won the traditional Democratic (and female) virtues of understanding problems. McCain won the Republican (and male) virtues of strong leadership and efficient management.
To add: you argued about household chores and that's why I had to use survey information that shows your inaccuracy. Feminists use surveys all the time to support an opposite opinion to validate their position.
Take Obama's household; Michelle Obama might take care of the Household, but he's equally there and he works more outside. Many dads do what Obama does, many women want to harp on what they do and that's the problem, which is why I'm giving you a hard time.
I have friends that are always saying the same thing. Well, I tell you what; If we don't have a war in Iraq going on anymore we will have MORE than enough friggin' money to provide health care to every American. Why is it that in this country we will spend trillions on guns and killing but not millions on health and education. Really now, really!
EZE, We're already paying too much for health care. Look at your pay stub and tell me what yr premiums are. Add in yr employer's premium contribution, too, and the money we pay as consumers in higher prices because of your employer's costs. Then justify the 30 cents on every dollar the health ins company execs are making in profit in order to maintain their extravagant lifestyle, money that comes off the backs of the sick & needy. It's a national disgrace and people are dying due to this greed.
amen. a lack of nationalized healthcare is an immoral blight upon the most developed nation in the world. shame on us. sickness falls upon hardworking americans just as much as it falls on lazy americans. therefore, the individual is not responsible for curing sickness, the government must provide care for such unpredictable and uncontrollable circumstances. OBAMA 08!

No not shopping at 7-11, I mean really creating and running a small business? Democrats will tax you into closing your doors. Look at who is voting for one party or the other. If you depend on the government to raise you from cradle to grave your democrat. If your making your own living and are independent of social welfare and hate paying more taxes, your republican. Next answer please?
Default, Thx for yr response. Afraid many of yr opinions are based upon false assumptions. Contrary to your opinion of me, I don't expect the govt. to care for me from cradle to grave. I'm not a socialist. I don't like paying taxes either, but am glad that some less fortunate can be helped with my tax $. I've lots of friends who run small businesses. They vote Dem. because they know Republicans tend to favor large corporate interests at the expense of grassroots entrepreneurship and innovation.
Respectfully so, check the tax tables during the Clintons terms verses the Bushs'. Yes its criminal how large corporations get favors from politicians democrat and republican. Look at the average Joes small business tax, thats where the democrats shine in tax gouging. Hillary and Obamas PAC money is 3 times that of McCains, because their is corporate interest in either of them winning, and its not just Wal-Mart lobbyists.
Default, Enjoyed the discussion. The real tax that so many Repubs pretend doesn't exist is the interest on the deficit that they've all loved since the 80s. We're now paying the interest on these debts - money that was spent simply to widen the gap between rich & poor. It's greed, pure & simple. God knows what our grandchildren will suffer in tax burdens due to GWB's raid on our treasury. And you want more of this? It always amazes when working people vote Repub against their own self-interest.
Veified1, Mutual, but government will never be able to control big business. Labor Unions are all democratic, thus everything then gets outsourced to countrys that dont punish their own corporations. It would be hillarious to see government try to socialize healthcare here and defend the USA better than Jimmy Carter did when the Iranians made a fool of us in the late 70s. The middle east is not something to joke about. Now we have a Muslim posing as a Christian to get voted in.
Come on, default, you have absolutely no factual, supportable basis to say that Obama is a Muslim. When you parrot Limbovian nonsense like that, unfortunately, it diminishes the validity of your other points.
dammit obama. I'm a die hard supporter but stop arguing petty sound bites. If you actually take McCain head on and pick apart his argument, the absurdities of staying this disastrous course will be present themselves. Stop talking about his 100 year occupation and argue the fact that Iraq will never be a pacific post war japan. Start arguing that the surge was never supposed to be the objective but the MEANS. get your act together democrats.
Whoever you praise is great, but Obama has stood up for something that most people don't even care about until it effects our economy. 400 million a day for war? If that's not cutting into our money with no end in sight, I don't know what is. Just months away....
In contrast to these comments below, I have something positive to say. Great job, Senator! Sen. Obama has a better way of thinking as to what will help achieve security and peace for our great country. He has already achieved many great changes in our political climate and he will change the world for the better as President. I look forward to your inauguration, President Obama! Blessings!
she was asking the same hard questions asked of bush about wmd.....look, if he is president, he will be asked the most difficult questions you ever seen,,this was a swedish massage if you think this is rough..how bout..will you authorize air strikes now iran has attacked one of our destroyers in the strait of hormuz...you will see
I don't get the analogy. Has Iran invaded another country? So at the start of WWII England apeased Hilter when he invaded a sovereign nation. So becasue you think that was a mistake your position is any nation should invade any other nation that it thinks might be hostile some day? What is the objective critiria that justifies military force against another nation? We are stuck in Iraq because of pre-emtion. I think the leasons learned from the 20th century is restraint and diplomacy are better
The lesson is that you don't appease tyrants. You think this war is big? Just wait till Iran lobs a nuke on Israel. Something they have been promising to do. That will be the beginning of WW3. Vote for Obama is you want to go down that road.
daytrader, Ultimately, the only thing this hideous war has done, at the cost of countless thousands of lives, is remove one dictator and embolden several others. Cause and effect. I would say to you that if you think it's such a great idea, that you should live your principles, get off your computer and go fight it.
while i agree that any life lost is too much, we are not losing "countless thousands", we have lost 4000 in 5 years... not bad considering we lost that many in a couple hours in vietnam or wwII
EZE, So you believe that Americans are the only humans who have died in this war? Or don't you think that Iraqi babies are humans, too? Even if you are so callous as to not count anyone but American soldiers, how can you say 4,000 in 5 years is "not bad?" In the name of God, man, what if even one of those was your child or spouse? What kind of sick cynicism leads you to sit in front of your computer, out of harm's way, and make such a comment? I'd hate to be standing up for you on judgment day.
Verified1 you are one of the good ones and indeed I won't tar all with the same brush (but then I am an exception too many will) - I just hope you opinion is a bit more the majority this time around (i mean how Bush got in [twice] is beyond my comprehension) and there are good people everywhere, that is - a bit - the point they just need to make their feelings felt.
you don't deserve an answer but here goes - this is the thinking that got you to this point in the first place - don't you get that yet? let's hope you are a dieing breed if not the world's indeed not safe but from the likes of you not Osama.
Yes, our loving brother Osama. Why not speak of Osama to the parents who watched their childrens heads get slowly cut off. Or the mom of the men handcuffed, covered with gas and pushed into an open flame. Your defense of this pig is all anyone needs to know about you.
O don't defend Osama - US did not me - you gave him weapons in Afghanistan against the Russians that's why he is where he is read your history and not just the headlines daytraderaz1
Some thoughts: 1) Other nations see the United States at the tyrant (rightly or wrongly) and our aggressive posture strengthens the Tyrants politically by proving there fears of the US are justified.
2) On Nuking Israel:
a) Muslim leaders don't support nukes in general, specifically the Iranians religious leaders stopped the Shaw's nuclear weapon program. Like Catholics they believe nuclear weapons are inherently immoral -killing of non combatants.
On the opinion of other nations...being an Aussie I have no problem with the American people, its just the Government thats of concern. Its kinda hard not to be suspicious of the US gov. when conducting wars on very dubious motives i.e. Iraq/saddam/oil.
Saying that, I myself am concerned about the Aus government cozzying up to the Chinese :S
Our Prime Minister speaks fluent Chinese Mandarin.
YEAAAAA Graham - let's hope there's no more "Freedom Fries" being served and we can listen to the UN and France and Sweden when they say that there was no justification for war next time.. but I think next time will be a LONG way off. You have really blown it - before this little escapade is forgotten- you will have 2 generations of terrorism to deal with first.
I was 15 years old when they went to War I knew then it was stupid to go to war wit Iraq they went about it unorganize and at a fast pace anyway they did not even plan out everything with messed up intellegience. Why I was 15 and knew this would happen that tells u how dumb our president Dubya is?
Obama is the only one speaking Common Sense people. Look if we leave Iraq its gonna be bad if we stay its gonna be bad so whats the best way to leave and why so our soldiers can come home instead of dying and waiting for something to happen.
Obama is the only one speaking Common Sense people. Look if we leave Iraq its gonna be bad if we stay its gonna be bad so whats the best way to leave and why so our soldiers can come home instead of dying and waiting for something to happen.
His questions to Patreus were the most relevant and sensible. I wonder why Hillary brags about her experience so much when she really cant handle things in the heat of the moment. And Mc Cain is dumber than a 5th grader.
Fuck all the 'candidates'..The fact is...The candidates, the issues, the government, etc don't matter. Why? Because this country has been long ago bought-off, traded, and paid for by huge corporate wealthy buisiness interests and the same corrupt officials you dipshit 'voters' keep electing ,over and over, that don't give two shits about the people they are sworn to serve. We have no say....period. Did anyone ever see the movie 'Wag the Dog' besides me?...Wake up people!
Meredith Viera was just rude and disrespectful...she looked really bad during this interview...She looked like an attack dog foaming at the mouth...WOW!
Obama is the only candidate worth voting for. Integrity is more important than experience, especially when your experience includes voting for a BS war. OBAMA 08 !
And why are they playing a McCain clip talking over Obama ? what incompetent dumbass is running the control room ?
Obama pwns 08 is obamas year Post this on all Politicial videos 08 is change 08 is greatness 08 is magnificent 08 is change 08 is GREAT change 08 is a better country 08 is OBAMA!1!
By that comment I can tell you workout. You exercise your IGNORANCE on a regular basis. President Obama is the change that we seek. Oh yeah he's gonna win because BUSH, CHENEY and CARL ROVE have stolen our voice, our consitution, and they have lied and committed federal Crimes and TREASON. And that Bush clone McCain of MCBUSH is a continuance of the same thing. They should be in JAIL for what they have and WATERBOARDED (since in their definition waterboarding is not torture!
"...I don't think Americans are concerned if we are there for a 100 years, or a thousand years or 10,000 years..." McCain. True, a lot of US citizens do not care of innocent Iraqi children and babies dead due to our cluster bombs in civilian areas looking for cluster bombs that were not there.
I may be 'misremembering' but I thought I heard McCain say "the American people do not care if we stay in Iraq a 100 years...". Why do not these news casters start asking about the lowness of our troops and how Clinton or McCain expect to find troops to bomb Iran. The faster we get out of Iraq the better. We created their problem. Obama has a level headed approach about being "as careful of getting out as we were careless getting in"
Indeed Jenn surprises me how much propaganda there is on mainstream US news - which then waves the flag of freedom of the press and unbias reporting... THE BUCK IS ALWAYS RIGHT..
Remember the US boycotting the 80 Moscow Olympics due to USSR invading Afghanistan? Then the CIA "secretly" funded the Taliban AND Osama bin Laden as freedom fighters against the Russians... not to mention Saddam was funneled similar arms in its war with Iran when the big devil of US policy was Iran... so in both cases you have reaped the whirlwind you have in part created and although you may not get this info in the US the rest of the world knows it.
gitm61, Sadly, we do know it, and believe me when I say, we know it all too painfully. Hang in there with us, please. Like all nations from time to time, many of our citizens are just utterly stupid, but we are trying hard here to make it better and overcome this national shame. We are counting down the days, and those of us who are normal rational people need your continued support.
"So are you willing to admit you've distorted his statements" What an arrogant disrespcectful and painfully biased question to pose! I NEVER see Clinton or McCain drilled in interviews with this level of aggressiveness, arrogance bias AND inaccuracy. People should boycott mainstream news programs the bias is ridiculous beyond belief.
Spot on my friend. I am an Australian who always find this mainstream reporters in the USA being unusually harsh on Obama. The guy seems more level headed than a lot of others and deserves a fair go. Personally, lesser the baggage, better the expected outcomes.
Senator McCain would have you remain there with an open ended departure surely this will only give justification to Iraqis willing to commit to armed struggle to free itself from a would-be colonizing nation, then in the rest of the world these fighters will be seen as 'freedom fighters' I am afraid 'Hearts and Minds' has already been lost and staying will only make the US the vilian of the piece.
Wake up America! 100.000 innocent Iraqis and 4000 US troops dead all for a falsehood. You have NO idea how badly this is tarnishing the US image (not that it has been good in recent years) and if anything it is giving justification to fighters who see the US as an occupation force in a sovereign nation who invaded using a lie to justify it's actions to the United Nations
Also, leaving in Iraq or staying in Iraq are both bad options just as President Obama said. However, we have to save our troops. We can't just keep letting this young people die for a lost cause. If we leave tomorrow or leave in 10 years..the day we leave a civil war breaks out. These people are are war w/ each other. We can't be a mediator..someone has to win and someone has to lose. This has played out in our own history too.
Wow! Meredith was not pulling the punches. I am happy she didn't. And President Obama handled them really really well. He knew his stuff and answered respectfully and correctly. It's funny the more I follow the campaign the more I learn about Iraq and the angrier I become. But, I knew the answers to those questions she asked him too. Mainly because I have been following what President Obama has been saying about the Iraq withdrawal.
I like the answers that Obama gave... very rational he was able to defend his point(s) very well...

"Obama passing new law to allow searching of PC's, Laptops, and media devices."

Sadly the powers that be, will not let Obama become elected. These dog and pony shows are only meant to fool Americans into thinking they can choose the direction of this country. There will be another terrorist attack on USA conveniently linked to Iran which will Cause the elections to become suspended. The real vermin behind 911 will not miss this opportunity while their man Bush is in, bank on it.

cjhoekema 3 years ago
cjhoekema: People don't LOOK at national security.
JediMaster6788 3 years ago
Just want to correct myself from my post below. I misread you and thought you were claiming Al-Qaeda was gone in Iraq. My apologies. With that said I'll add that you're fighting an ideology. The major cells in Iraq were gone but the US presence in Iraq has led to small groups of civilians forming their own cells. Brute force can not solve that. It's like trying to kill a religion. The only way neutralize those enemies is through diplomacy and education. Bullets can not kill ideas and beliefs.
garett69 3 years ago
Garett,
I wish you were right about diplomacy and education. It sucks, but it's true.
cjhoekema 3 years ago
The Iraq war is going to be devastating to Barak in the General Election. Just listen to this interview! Peace, security, justice, stability...these things are totally outside the equation for him. He's fixed in a time table because he's beholden to the extreme left. He cares nothing about the effect of his policy...just that it's popular.
My assessment: He's lying. He can not and will not pull troops out.
The fact that he voted against the war is the stuff if trivial pursuit: IRRELEVANT
cjhoekema 3 years ago
I think he's simply more interested in American interests than Iraq interests. Like he said, if they could not create peace, security, justice and stability in Iraq in 7 years it's not going to happen in 14 or longer. In the mean time American interests (ie: the economy) is suffering as a direct result. A long drawn out war is what killed the Soviet Union. It would be irresponsible to allow the same to happen to the US regardless of what excuse you use to justify it.
garett69 3 years ago
What killed the Soviet Union is bankruptcy, not a long drawn out war. Remember, the whole Star Wars thing? Reagan?
We are winning! It is this damn press and democrats that are ROOTING for our soldiers to fail. WE ARE IN A WAR AGAINST TERRORISM!!!!!! It's not a cold war, it's not a little skirmish, this is TERRORISM! Plain and simple. If we do not kill these sons of bitches, we will pay the price later! Peace isn't happening? How can you say that. Al-Queda is GONE in Iraq
JediMaster6788 3 years ago
If Al-Qaeda is gone in Iraq then you're not winning you have WON there and the focus should shift back to Afghanistan and the hunt for Bin Laden and other Al-Qaeda leaders and cells. You accuse Obama of not offering any answers but that proves you have not listened. He is not trying to stop the fight against Al-Qaeda. He has accused the war in Iraq of distracting the US from that objective. You're free to your opinions but you'd make a stronger case if you actually knew Obama's positions.

Now, the media is saying Hillary Clinton, born with a "silver-spoon" in her mouth, who is obviously all about herself, is more in touch.

Dear sir. It is an unfortunate reality that the American Government has not been of its people for some time. It is in sense a civil war where control by a few has been seized during a period of apathy and blind trust.
The actions of the American government have represented from the outside an opinion that it is the common decision of the people, yet it has not been.
America is going through a social revoltion.

Obama.
MeLikeGoFast 3 years ago
I think that Mr Obama is inteligent enough not to release any kind of 'timetable' for a military withdrawl publicly for the reasons you just stated. Behind the scenes is more likley or he may just leave it at 'approx 16 months' after getting into office.
Oh and hes a politician, why not use the mandate of the people to get elected? thats kinda the point :)
MMicro99 3 years ago
Read the federalist papers....were a republic not a democracy. And if he "really " wants to make a difference and is doing it behind the scenes why does he keep requesting a PUBLIC timetable for withdrawl. Those two things are mutually exclusive. Please dont get offended these are legit questions I have.

This is a byproduct of our oil dependance.

You can't ask them to NOT be arabs..

mccain said "100 years in Iraq would be fine, as long as NO US troops were being harmed. that this is a very volitile part of the world"
Hes not saying 100 years of war. However it is completely unrealistic to imagine that we will not be attacked continuously over that 100 years considering the volitality of the region
it is our very presence in the region which incites anger and perpetuates attacks. therefore, by mccains own logic, we should pull out now because were being attacked now.

How's things going in the CFR MR Obama?
argyle684 3 years ago
The USA Today/Gallup Poll
Obama won:
• Cares about the needs of people like you, 66% to 54%
• Shares your values, 51% to 46%
•Understands the problems Americans face in their daily lives, 67% to 55%
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
Neither won (John McCain- Vs Obama):
• Has a clear plan for solving the country's problems, 41% to 42%
• Has a clear vision for the country's future, 67% to 65%
• Would work well with both parties in Washington to get things done, 62% to 61%
• Is someone you would be proud to have as president, 57% to 55%
Obama won the traditional Democratic (and female) virtues of understanding problems. McCain won the Republican (and male) virtues of strong leadership and efficient management.
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
Obama needs to go bare knuckles with McCain and make it clear that he will be up to the task with pulling troops and restoring democracy.
He must win the Male vote in Pen State and the latest polls show the men are turning his way. Also he's getting the females to vote for him too as the gap in Pen State narrows to 6 points. Obama 08!
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
Danny, I think you need to ask your mom or wife whether she is: 1) a strong leader, and 2) an efficient manager. I daresay your dirty laundry & household are, or were, managed well by a strong and efficient manager.
Verified1 3 years ago
Verified1; You assume that my mother or wife is a reflection of the rest of women in our society. I daresay what I stated is an accurate reflection of what's going on (It's being politically incorrect). I think you assume that the house and laundry is not shared like many households these days. Many women don't even cook or clean (it not the traditional norm and that's acceptable). They are more on the same footing leaving a house dirty. Thanks!
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
Danny, Thx for yr reply. I believe you mistook my point. As a feminist for over 50 ys, I've never accepted the theoretical framework that defines masculine & feminine "virtues." No matter how much you'd like to think it's not the case, most women in the world are responsible for cleaning, cooking & laundry. It would be naive to assume this isn't true. I'm sincerely happy to hear you share this role, but that's not usually the case, at least to a meaningful extent for most women in the world.
Verified1 3 years ago
Verified1: Men and women around the world cannot be used as they live under different social systems. In the US there was a survey done that showed men's work in the Household has increased, but I believe many don't want to acknowledge that (the article didn't either because it was a back handed compliment with a whining tone that men are not doing enough). I totally disagree.
You have to look at what men do outside to compensate. Obama is a good leader who can unite. Thanks! Obama 08!
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
Danny, You said "Men & women around the world cannot be used.." Well, I just DID use them, lol. When we make a theoretical assumption that there are masculine & feminine "virtues", then all women & men are implied. Otherwise the logic fails. Nor can we use survey data that we've an opposite opinion about to support an argument. I also support BO & admire his debate skill. I just want our arguments to be defensible & have intellectual validity, which is why I'm giving you such a hard time. :-)
Verified1 3 years ago
Verified1: I disagree. You used an old generalization which is not accurate. You are disingenuous if you use the world because I'm referring to US politics (Republican Vs Democrat). You should read things in context. This is the reason why many feminists get defensive and loose logic.
What I stated:
Obama won the traditional Democratic (and female) virtues of understanding problems. McCain won the Republican (and male) virtues of strong leadership and efficient management.
dannybonaduce14 3 years ago
To add: you argued about household chores and that's why I had to use survey information that shows your inaccuracy. Feminists use surveys all the time to support an opposite opinion to validate their position.
Take Obama's household; Michelle Obama might take care of the Household, but he's equally there and he works more outside. Many dads do what Obama does, many women want to harp on what they do and that's the problem, which is why I'm giving you a hard time.
Thanks!

EZEMarx 3 years ago
I have friends that are always saying the same thing. Well, I tell you what; If we don't have a war in Iraq going on anymore we will have MORE than enough friggin' money to provide health care to every American. Why is it that in this country we will spend trillions on guns and killing but not millions on health and education. Really now, really!
sethreeves1982 3 years ago
EZE, We're already paying too much for health care. Look at your pay stub and tell me what yr premiums are. Add in yr employer's premium contribution, too, and the money we pay as consumers in higher prices because of your employer's costs. Then justify the 30 cents on every dollar the health ins company execs are making in profit in order to maintain their extravagant lifestyle, money that comes off the backs of the sick & needy. It's a national disgrace and people are dying due to this greed.

No not shopping at 7-11, I mean really creating and running a small business? Democrats will tax you into closing your doors. Look at who is voting for one party or the other. Next answer please?
default99telecom 3 years ago
Default, Thx for yr response. Afraid many of yr opinions are based upon false assumptions. Contrary to your opinion of me, I don't expect the govt. to care for me from cradle to grave. I'm not a socialist. I don't like paying taxes either, but am glad that some less fortunate can be helped with my tax $. I've lots of friends who run small businesses. They vote Dem. because they know Republicans tend to favor large corporate interests at the expense of grassroots entrepreneurship and innovation.
Verified1 3 years ago
Respectfully so, check the tax tables during the Clintons terms verses the Bushs'. Yes its criminal how large corporations get favors from politicians democrat and republican. Look at the average Joes small business tax, thats where the democrats shine in tax gouging. Hillary and Obamas PAC money is 3 times that of McCains, because their is corporate interest in either of them winning, and its not just Wal-Mart lobbyists.
default99telecom 3 years ago
Default, Enjoyed the discussion. The real tax that so many Repubs pretend doesn't exist is the interest on the deficit that they've all loved since the 80s. We're now paying the interest on these debts - money that was spent simply to widen the gap between rich & poor. It's greed, pure & simple. God knows what our grandchildren will suffer in tax burdens due to GWB's raid on our treasury. And you want more of this? It always amazes when working people vote Repub against their own self-interest.
Verified1 3 years ago
Veified1, Mutual, but government will never be able to control big business. Labor Unions are all democratic, thus everything then gets outsourced to countrys that dont punish their own corporations. It would be hillarious to see government try to socialize healthcare here and defend the USA better than Jimmy Carter did when the Iranians made a fool of us in the late 70s. The middle east is not something to joke about. Now we have a Muslim posing as a Christian to get voted in.

I don't get the analogy. Has Iran invaded another country? So at the start of WWII England apeased Hilter when he invaded a sovereign nation.
Like Catholics they believe nuclear weapons are inherently immoral -killing of non combatants.
b)MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction)

On the opinion of other nations...being an Aussie I have no problem with the American people, its just the Government thats of concern. Its kinda hard not to be suspicious of the US gov. when conducting wars on very dubious motives i.e. Iraq/saddam/oil.
Saying that, I myself am concerned about the Aus government cozzying up to the Chinese :S
Our Prime Minister speaks fluent Chinese Mandarin.
Chose US as ally over China any day.

McCain does not care about the American people, he only cares about his political career.
Only Obama will bring our troops home, save our planet, our economy and above all, our future.
Our nation is in critical despair !!
This is our most desperate hour !!
We can't afford a third Bush term - we are in a recession.
It's not going to work if we don't change !!

True, a lot of US citizens do not care of innocent Iraqi children and babies dead due to our cluster bombs in civilian areas looking for cluster bombs that were not there.
alyceclover 3 years ago 2
I may be 'misremembering' but I thought I heard McCain say "the American people do not care if we stay in Iraq a 100 years...". Why do not these news casters start asking about the lowness of our troops and how Clinton or McCain expect to find troops to bomb Iran. The faster we get out of Iraq the better. We created their problem. Obama has a level headed approach about being "as careful of getting out as we were careless getting in"

Remember the US boycotting the 80 Moscow Olympics due to USSR invading Afghanistan? Then the CIA "secretly" funded the Taliban AND Osama bin Laden as freedom fighters against the Russians... not to mention Saddam was funneled similar arms in its war with Iran when the big devil of US policy was Iran... so in both cases you have reaped the whirlwind you have in part created and although you may not get this info in the US the rest of the world knows it.
gitm61 3 years ago 3
gitm61, Sadly, we do know it, and believe me when I say, we know it all too painfully.

JennfromPenn 3 years ago 4
Spot on my friend. I am an Australian who always find this mainstream reporters in the USA being unusually harsh on Obama. The guy seems more level headed than a lot of others and deserves a fair go. Personally, lesser the baggage, better the expected outcomes.
kchopra4080 3 years ago 6
Senator McCain would have you remain there with an open ended departure surely this will only give justification to Iraqis willing to commit to armed struggle to free itself from a would-be colonizing nation, then in the rest of the world these fighters will be seen as 'freedom fighters' I am afraid 'Hearts and Minds' has already been lost and staying will only make the US the vilian of the piece.
gitm61 3 years ago
