  • As an engineering student, I'm glad to see that there are still supporters of a hardcore power:weight ratio out there. Perhaps we'll meet in the future.

  • Nice work, I only recently found out about Palatov, and all of your works are interesting and amazing to watch! And I'm also amazed at how it sounds, along with the fact that it has 430 hp.

  • Wow, amazing car, nice work you have done. Are you going to design any cars that are meant for more than just recreational track days? Like maybe manufacture for a league or something? These would be amazing to watch or race. I would love to drive one in real life, i saw it on Simraceway and am about to buy it in that game.

  • @dumbdude007 thanks! :) our D4 (also in simraceway) is a much more 'casual' car powered by a standard bike engine instead of the V8. also we have the D2 which is a street/track use two-seater. details on palatov.com if you're interested.

  • will it be possible to put wider tires?

  • is the torque 50:50 F and R please?

  • @tahn07 it's a proprietary adaptive system (NOT viscous). the rear is permanently driven and the front can get 0-100 % torque but it will never spin the front tires unless the rear is also spinning (i.e. all 4 tires). the tighter the turn the more rear slip it will allow.

  • @MPalatov very cool. how do you achieve that with a chain drive? amazing.

  • @tahn07 thanks :) the whole design history is on dpcars.net if you're interested, if you go back far enough in the blog you'll see the drivetrain details. i've been testing it in various configurations since '06

  • @MPalatov I have been semi-religiously following your blog since 2006. I must have missed the torque vectoring part. What you have achieved during the past 5 years is simply amazing.

  • @tahn07 thanks! :) there is no active vectoring, it's a mechanical system that only drives the fronts when and only as much as needed.

  • This is epic. It sounds so awesome when it starts up. Perfect combination of rumbling muscle car V8 and high revving F1. Can't wait to see its real potential on a faster track that can use its power and aerodynamics. Laguna Seca please!

  • @TheOfficialKC we will eventually take it to all the big tracks. in the simulator it does laguna in 1:12. i know for a fact i won't be able to match that in the real word but i'm hoping some of the better drivers might :)

  • @MPalatov No doubt you will be able to beat every street car in it. The fastest road car time is the Viper ACR at 1:33.92.

  • @TheOfficialKC even a D4 will beat every street car, and has.

  • @MPalatov You know what would be interesting. You could find someone you don't at the track that brought their own car their, like that Viper ACR. Time them in their car then let them drive the D1 for a session and get a lap time. That would be a good comparison. That way you wouldn't be comparing your time to a time by a pro driver in another car.

  • @TheOfficialKC we've done that with the D4 at ORP. the D4 was faster than a modified GT3 Cup (yes, people modify quarter-million-dollar porsches) and it was faster than an extensively prepped, LS3-powered E46M3, same driver. D1 is just in another league altogether. read the comparison on the D1 page of palatov.com that will give you some perspective :)

  • @MPalatov Well if the D4 was faster then a modified GT3 Cup then no doubt about the D1. It is definitely in a different league. You were hoping for LMP speed.

So it weighs 400lbs less than a Radical SR8LM, is only down 20hp and has AWD to put all the power down at low speeds. I just don't know about aerodynamics.

  • @TheOfficialKC aero is certain to be less effective out of the box - it takes a lot of development and testing to dial that in. the significantly lighter weight and AWD make up to some degree for aero - gain in the tighter/slower corners, lose in the fast stuff, so it depends on the track.

  • @MPalatov What I am assuming for aero is that the D1 won't have as much downforce as the Radical. BUT the D1 weighs so much less that it won't matter. And I would expect, with the small size, smoother curves and lack of huge rear wing, that the D1 would have significantly less drag.

  • That sounds INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Awesome to have seen it come so far! Love it! Can't wait till I can have my own!

  • Been waiting so see this day ever since you started testing the V8 configurations in the bikini.

It's ability to pull out of corners is remarkable especially on an damp track.

    Bravo!!

  • now THAT's what i'm talkin about!

  • Great accomplishment and milestone reached!! I love everything about the car and glad the first run was without the body shell so we could see some of the nice engineering bits. But can't wait to see in on the track in full dress.

  • @jhartleyjr John, i went back and found your introductory email, dated 10/15/2004, in which you suggested that your engine is a natural for a car like this. you were right! you deserve full credit for creating an awesome engine which makes D1 what it is.

  • Sounds awesome. Can't wait to see her do some laps at ORP

  • I love that it had its first track day on my actual birthday!

  • Love that sound!

    -contactscale

  • I agree sounds epic!!!

  • Oh my GOD it sounds RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sounds awesome on the downshift!!!! love it!!!

  • Gotta love that sequential box and shift controller!
