I'm gathering Mountain House products for emergency puproses, not hiking or climbing, but I must say that if I was in a Hurricane Katrina situation that I would be more than pleased to eat Moutian House products..they really are good, not perfect, but good and worth the effort.
that's for trying it out for us Tinny! I also liked your videos on your own vacuum packed meals that you pack. keep the good stuff coming and send us more stuff from you on the trail. Thanks!
The pro packs are great you can order all their products from there site. I live not far from the manufacture plant. They have a lot of different meals.
I agree that these are a good freeze-dried products. Keep in mind folks that some of these portions have a good slug of vitamin B12 and, if eaten in the evening, might prevent restful sleep. I will eat these sorts of freeze-dried foods but look for the B 12 content if I plan on eating it for supper. Happy trails.
1. Stir really well as soon as you get the water in as Tinny is doing. If you don't you'll get a lot of unhydrated (crunchy when you don't want crunchy) bits later. This goes double for meals with rice.
2. After you seal the bag, try wrapping it in a fleece to keep it hot. The food will hydrate more completely - it's never too hot to do anything to the fleece.
Its the same thing Tinny encountered. The melted cheese will coat your spoon, and you can't just lick it off. It takes a bit of work to scrape off completely. But it is GOOD!!!
Personally, I'd like to see some more of YOUR home maid recipes. Your dehydrating & packaging videos were VERY helpful for those who would rather make their own.
Tinny, These reviews are great, but if you would just dump the rehydrated meal into a bowl and show them to us we would get a much better idea of the look and consistency etc. Thanks!
Mr. Tinny... you replied that the bacon and eggs are good... I agree, they are bretty darn good! I had less than great results with the (scrambled eggs w/ ham and red and green peppers).
luv your vids and reviews!your audio is intense compaird to your old shed, maybe hang up a few blankets untill you get it finished and furnished.keep it comming you got me excited about wondering around the wilderness the way i did years ago and take my kids.over and out from the northcoast of america
Thanks Tinny! This kind of review is definitely what I like seeing. I hate to pay 6 or 7 dollars for a freeze dried meal and find out that it is horrible. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Tinny. If one were planning macronutrients around a young athlete for instance (say 120-200 grams of protein/day), do you think hamburger gravel added to the mountain house meals would be a cost effective way to bump up the daily protein without resorting to protein powders?
Thank you very much for the review. I appreciate it. I've been looking at buying these and wanted to know. Safe journeys.

The stores around me only sell these two meal bags, why can't we find single meal bags?

Was Tinny using a stripped down JetBoil? I think he shorten the pot and removed the unnecessary black plastic parts and neoprene to conserve weight.

yes he stripped down a jet boil and i believe that he put one of his own pots in it

Two things about backpacking meals:

Agreed. It's worse when it's really, really cold out, too. But good stuff!

I made my last comment before the end of the video. LOL.
I still hold to what I asked though. I would like any more ideas for DIY meals.

I really enjoyed the videos you made on dehydreating and making your own pack meals. Do you have any more "DIY recopies""?

I have to agree with you the Chili mac is a little bit better. Walmart sells the beef stew also and with a little hot sauce it is excellent.
