Does anybody know if i bought this phone off ebay and activate do i absolutely need to have the unlimited internet service for it to work as in takeing and recieving calls and text messageing, or does does verizon wireless require you to have the unlimited service to activate it?

no. you can activate it on Pay Per use. you won't be charged a monthly fee for the internet, but if you use data it will be $1.99/mb

I know exactly what I'm talking about. Any of the newer pda's like the droid, htc droid eris, and the blackberries, etc. have a required 30 a month data plans. In the days of the older phones like say the palm treo 650 I used to have (and this phone), data wasn't a required feature on the phone and could be blocked, but if you choose to not block it and not get a plan it is $14.99 p/mb. Call verizon and ask about the data on this particular phone and they will tell you.

I believe they will let you have this one without a data plan but I always say what's the point of a PDA Phone without the data plan. You pretty much cut 70% of the features away

One other thing, to avoid internet fee's, you must request that Verizon put a data block on your phone, when you set it up. With data block you won't connect to Verizons broadband, but you can still use the wifi. Also, you can't receive photos, but text messaging works fine. If you don't request a data block, you will be charged for internet connection when it connects. I had this happen on the i760 and even with wifi on, it would auto connect to Verizon Broadband. I caught this early.

It works the same as it would on a laptop. If you have the connectivity and there is a free/unsecured connection around, yes it's free.

Yes it is, if you use the wifi and request that Verizon place a Data block on your phone. This keeps their broadband service from connecting. You won't be able to get photo attachments with text messaging, but you can text just fine.

Verizon dosen't put Data Blocks on smarphones. Trust me, i tried. but what you can do is go into the settings for Data and change the verizon username and password to something that isn't right or something random and then it won't connect to the data network anymore. You can still use Wi-Fi.

Hey Jackmiles2006. The simple fact is I have the XV6800 and have a data block, so trusting you is not the issue, trust me. I use the wi-fi to connect to the internet and don't pay any fee for a data usage plan because I don't have one.

It is exactly what it says it is, a pocket Pc meaning it can almost do everything(Excluding intense apps) a regular Pc can do. This one seems to be pretty top of the line and it should be able to handle something as simple as youtube, although it may not ship with the ability to do so, meaning a mod or "hack" of some sort might have to be installed.

well one of the main things is the Keyboard. The 6900 is virtual, and the 6800 is hardware. However other main features that turned me away from the 6900 was the Wifi. I personally think that the prices on the network(EV-DO) are really high.

Using a virtual keyboard? I believe you can, not certain though. I would recommend getting third party Keyboards(pocketCM is nice and free) if you are going to do it.

I noticed that you said the boot time depended on how many programs you were running.... If you're booting cold... there are no processes or programs running....

You can still have startup programs such (magic button.) or some today plug-in that you can have autostart if you reboot your phone. The loading is behind the Windows Mobile screen. I've noticed when I had quite a few programs autostart the boot time slowed down vs the standard screen which has a quicker boot to it. Its similar to when you cold start your computer if you have a lot of items open at startup it slows the boot time vs having very few items load up.

How well does the touch screen work with using a finger to press the numbers to make a call, rather than using the stylus? It would seem rather annoying to have to pull out the stylus to type phone numbers whenever you want to make a call.

Oh it works fine for your fingers. The reason I used the stylus in the reviews is because my hands are big and it would probably block the view. using your figures works fine and its what I usually use on the phone most of the time.

Thats one thing that annoyed me about the 6700 too, I wish they would make the dial pad larger so you could dial easily with one hand, similar to the the screen where you enter the pin number when you lock the phone.

I think the i760 is also a very good phone as well. I believe its a bit slower in processor speed and memory than the XV6800. What I like better about this the cleaner look too it. It's cool that the i760 has number pad in the front but the send and end keys are just in too weird of a spot for me. Plus I like the keyboard on the XV6800 better and its EV-DO Rev A. upgradeable while the i760 is not. You can't go wrong with either phone though but I would give it to the XV6800.
