He sees things coming and can block entire combos at range. The lucky knockdown first round is pretty much the only clean punch Nortje landed all fight long. That's skill.

Semmy needs to develop his legs a lot more. A big guy like that needs to do 35% Heavy weights training, mostly for his legs and 65% Lightweights training to progress speed.

If you see the lowering of their hands in advance, use the full swing of your shoulder, make it come in half from the side half from the front, aim for the temple. Do it right, and you can end a fight with such a blow.

Schilt is a karatekas, Nortje is a boxer and they are in a kickboxing competition. Traditionally, the pure boxer breeds have never done well in K-1. That said, those high knees of his have disposed quite a few good kickboxers as well.

god bless semmy schilt. I really love to watch him fight. but he always looks so akward when he fights. someone like le banner is confident and acts like he is in charge the whole time. semmy schilt always looke like he is off balance and confused to why he is there.
but damn, the akwardness will knock your ass out. he is still one of the best kick boxers i've seen in a very long time.

his style is kyokushin karate. but he mostly fights in kick boxing style tournaments, so I just said he was a kick boxer due to the kind of competitions he does.
I'm sure he has studied kick boxing intensely at some point in his career (he mostly fights against kick boxers, why not study it), but youre right, he is karateka not a kick boxer

Still, in my opinion this video really shows Schilts weakness. When someone comes up close and hits hard Schilt gets knocked down. Same with Hari vs Schilt and almost Peter Aerts. Personally i don't really like watching Schilt fight. He's good, but it isn't very enjoyable to watch.

how coem no 6'2" 220 lbs or such as, is fighting one of those guys?? they are so slow... wouldnt it be easy for a bit smaller guy to beat their ass??
or is it really just all about the distance u can deliver a punch??

It all depends. This is just one of those cases where two big slow guys go at it. A faster guy might be able to beat Semmy, but Semmy is a strong dude and no matter how fast you are if he hits you good you'll go down. It would all depend on the fighter.

yes , it depends . a big slow guy will hit with a delay but witha bigger force , he willl have a knock-out power greater , 1 punch and you're out . if you are small you might hit him a bit , but you are generally weaker . thats my 2 cents

Well, because against a fighter quite a lot smaller, it's easy to swing over his defence. If they lower their hands to have a look, strike.
If you see the lowering of their hands in advance, use the full swing of your shoulder, make it come in half from the side half from the front, aim for the temple. Do it right, and you can end a fight with such a blow.
Aside from that, tall fighters can ussually use the jab to score points and keep distance, while remaining untouched themselves.

That is a very immature statement. Any athlete's skills are based on their size. If he was 5'9" he'd obviously have a totally different skillset to begin with.

The best athlete is the best athlete. Once they've all been trained for k-1 or MMA it doesn't matter. The best athlete typically wins.

And YES I know, Schilt did pancrance, but a champion wrestler/judo/sambo-player whose weight is over 120kg /270 pounds, is almost unbeatable.
There would be a takedown within 40 seconds...

Schilt is a karatekas, Nortje is a boxer and they are in a kickboxing competition. Traditionally, the pure boxer breeds have never done well in K-1. That said, those high knees of his have disposed quite a few good kickboxers as well.
