  • if his voice was a material object it would be a wet soggy loaf of bread

  • So much of an intellectual's rhetoric is overwhelming the interlocutor with a wild array of quotes and misquotes. Then, when they are criticized, they will claim they were "misread."

But I will not dismiss him. He has ideas to play with. That's all I care about. You can't build a civilization on his ideas, but you can enhance the intellectual alacrity of a civilization.

  • What happens to an individual IS what makes them different. Difference is NOT an illusion. We respond differently to different stimuli .That is not in question. Appreciating difference, tolerating diversity, sharing cultural artifacts, and leaving the diverse people ALONE to develop their culture is to be the heart of true multiculturalism.

  • @jackbox1971 Multiculturalism is a racist ideology

  • @rivet138 So whereas I spent three paragraphs trying to elucidate MY point, you dismiss it with five words. Somehow, I just don't think you're putting the effort in, mate. I will only ask you to think about the follow question: IF we lived in what I presume is your perfect, homogenous cultural world, would you still find people who supported a different football team in your country offensive to you?

  • @jackbox1971 It is impossible to achieve a totally homogeneous cultural world. There will always be differences just like it is impossible for two individuals to have the same living-experience. But there aren’t only differences like multiculturalists usually point out. There are also similarities which should be stressed in order to achieve more equality in the global culture.

  • omg its Lenin

  • i love how he says we dont need multiculturalism. i totally agree

  • well I would be interested in what he says about the USA. and get into a discussion with people in other parts of the world. Im a third generation American the who's great grandparents come in during WW 1 from Germany.

  • It is good to know that there are still good (recognized) thinkers in Europe

  • If love is evil, what are politics? How does the same thinker have such a radical opinion on love (and other issues) but such an accepting of norms when it comes to politics? A lot of things he mentioned in this interview are of political nature, it's a pity to see that...

  • woooow i tottaly agree on Kradzic his project succeeded, its unfortunant but its true, today Bosnia is unstable and unable to move on due to the fact the servs have got more power then them

  • omg ! zizek interviewed by felix dzherzinsky

  • you first allow someone to achieve its objective, and then, when he achieve that objective, you condemn him for achieving it. but ordinary mind is too simple too understand this simple contradiction.

  • @Zehop I agree with your point. I think intellectuals and critics are hostile to their own kind. Nothing is more predictable than denouncing a critic as having "mis-read" what he or she has written.

To me, either an idea is "Playable" or it is inert. I am not convinced that Marxism is still playable. What is it good for besides nostalgia?

  • Comment removed

  • indeed, agree on his view about difference.

  • what a great mind...i agree w most of what he said too

  • He is soooooo true about the Balkans! Here in Croatia (and Bosnia, Serbia etc...) all you ever hear from media is when will we enter the EU, why aren't we good enough for Europe, the EU standards this and the EU standards that...

  • @BalkanibalX

Why would you want to Enter the EU? Its a dump

  • @Reido2828

Cos' I'd rather be inside pissing out, than outside and be pissed at.

If it will take EU 10 years to get out of this crisis, I guaratee you, non-members like Serbia, Ukraine or Albania will take 30 or 40 years.

But I'd like to see EU reformed towards federalization

  • @BalkanibalX

10 years? WTF are you smoking you fool. Read the writing on the wall one more time ok.

  • zizek makes me laugh , sorry

  • FORNICATE, hahahaa

  • I think zizek is a coke addict.

  • it really looks like it!

  • bahaha

  • he's never done drugs, if i recall correctly because he wants to always be vigil (though I'm not sure I read that part correctly)

i'll tell ya, i know coke addicts and his sniffle differently

  • haha totally

  • i love 3:20-4:07 thats it:the truth is that new liberal way on looking on the diversity multiculturalism is a myth, one should leave politically correct bullshit pattern and face it from žižeks point of view.

  • @Guzai

    Gilles Deleuze

  • he mentioned a french philosopher name, i couldn'rt hear that? what's his name?

  • He quotes Gilles Deleuze: "If you get caught in the dream of the other, you're fucked."

Deleuze is the author of Anti-Oedipus, A Thousand Plateaus, Cinema 1 and 2, etc. Check him out. He's obscenely difficult to read (in the English translation anyways), but rewarding.

  • Yes it is. I recomend to you a book by Michael Hardt "Gilles Deleuze: An Apprenticeship in Philosophy "

    A Salure from Chile!

  • Salute*

  • not english-french, french!=))

  • i love his english :)

  • u pravu si.

  • ''Croatia was created using genocide, by throwing 1/4 million people out''. Pokušaj to shvatiti !

  • sovenia was not created with genocide.

croatia was created using genocide, by throwing 1/4 million people out.

bosnia: just go back to andric and "the letter from 1920".

it was about aging baby boomers raised on the tall tales of wars past and their desire to have a dick up for a bit longer.

all the crises these days are about the aging baby boomers.

and the ripping on serbs seems to be the favourite pastime of academics today.

  • and zizek is about nationalism, he is very slovenian nationalist, much more conservatively stronger nationalist than any slovenian before him - check his comment about serbian versus other-ex-yu nationalism in "nedjeljom u 2", his interview there.

  • ''croatia was created using genocide, by throwing 1/4 million people out''.

  • zizek, i adore you as a teacher and an academic, but what's up with ripping on serbs (how many percent of other does slovenia have, how many croatia - in both cases it is less than srpska), have you become lazy and decided that now you're just gonna rehash what Other has told you?

  • slovenia and croatia were not created with genocide, "srpska" was! most serbs act like they dont know the truth. they think everyone is against them, without asking "why?". it is sad that this also applies to a lot of "intellectual" serbs;a lot of serbian artists and scientists and "zizek fans" like you are actually nationalists. and the few serbs that are telling the truth are demonised by serbs. this is not the way to deal with genocide that was done in the name of your nation. shame on you!

  • Great! Thanks for this ~ it is much appreciated. I love Slavoj Zizek!
