@bunnywailer14 Iggy was into garage rock. Punk rock was initiated at UK and US simultaneously in the 70s. When the US and Canada were into garage rock in the 60s, UK had the beat bands like The Who, Rolling Stones, Small Faces etc who influenced the majority of garage bands. UK had its own garage bands too like the Troggs. It is unfair to say that Punk Rock was started in America.
@bunnywailer14 Iggy was never punk. The Ramones were first - and yes, they are American. The Buzzcocks were classed as punk, and I won't argue with that, but basically they were (and still are) the best writers of a 3 minute tune ever. Listen to Boredom, then Soul Survivor. Written 30 years apart and equally brilliant. How many other bands can boast that?
im not into punk but i do like this song wit sum othrs but evn i can clearly see this is original punk i cant stand wen kids say "new punk" there isnt such thing!!! ;))
@nightsniper45 Tho it was are music that influenced the beatles, joy division, the animals, and the buzzcocks alll your bands will say that some one from america is better then they are they will actually flat out say BETTER THEN. go look up how many covers those bands did on American artist then come back and type the same shit and feel STUPID.
I remember seeing this on MTV. I think there is another version but I could be wrong. Compared to all the other silly mtv vidios, the Buzzcocks seemed like they were FROZEN. Like they didn't give a shit, just stood there and lip synced their hit with the least movement possible. No production. No set. It was refreshing.
at least they were original. "punks" nowadays don't even come up with anything new. isn't punk about rebelling, you idiots? so why are you all dressing in uniforms. godamn fascists. dressing "punk" is dressing in a uniform. be yourself. be unique.
When I first heard this, I simply could not believe it was from the 70s. It sounds like something from the early or mid 90s. They were so ahead of their time.
This is what classic 70s punk was all about - catchy rock n roll - gawd knows when it became all mohicans and leather jackets and heavy metal thrash ...
@xxxtootoofreakxxx Hey my teeth are pretty crappy. no cavities but crooked as hell. And I'm not British. My girlfriend digs it. Get over the teeth thing people.
honostly i love this band but how they got big in the punk rock movement is beyond me... lol these guys sing about love and wear suites... such a good original band that will never get old... great music
i log on to hear a classic tune only to see comments about the colour of pete shelley's teeth!!! video killed the radio star? never a truer phrase was spoken!!!
What on EARTH does someone's haircut have to do with it? Personally, if I see someone who has spent a lot of time on his hair, that tends to be on the NEGATIVE roster for attractiveness (but, again, not exclusively - other qualities, mostly personality and aesthetics, need to be totted up as well...).
I thought punk was about breaking barriers and doing what the fuck you want. Why shouldnt they be allowed to have love songs? especially when theyre classic tunes aswell? Class band, i need to get tickets!!
saw pete shelley in a pub in london mid 90s . being a bit pissed , my mate and i sang " what do i get ? ten bensons , half a lager ,a stand still get fit video " because thats what he had on his table as he sat there alone .
he left shortly after ! . loved the buzzcocks ,great band with clever songs , this footage is great . cheers for sharing !
Brilliant drummer. For some reason they were never really that good live - saw them maybe 4 times between 1977 and 1979, and there was always something missing.
My (useless) opinion is that the reason Shelley could combine punk and love songs was that his anger came from peoples attitudes toward homosexuals, espescially back then.
one minute 'they're not proper punks' then 'his hair is untidy, then, 'his teeth aren't nice', make ur mind up guys! these were genuine punk innovators, brilliant song writers, much covered. Tho u might need to bring ur brains to the performance to grasp their wit and irony.
I seen the buzcocks, I dont remember if it was 78 or 79 at de mont hall leicester, support band was joy division the place was rammed, they only stopped letting people in when no one else could fit, before all this Health and safety bollocks

correct me if im wrong, but dont the misfits have a few songs involving love? ramones I also beleive have a couple of songs involving love in someway, to.
Buzzcocks aren't punks, I agree. Buzzcocks is a great pop-rock band, with one of the best drummer ever, and one of the greatest song-writer in pop-rock history, capable of writing a dozen of catchy tunes played at a machine-gun rythm. Other have tried ; they sometimes succeed in playing quicker (NoFX, for instance), but they hardly ever reach them on the melodic scale. Except who ? Magazine (thanks mr Devoto), and Oingo Boingo (but D. Elfman is a genius).
wowowow what about the ramones: locket love, iwanna be your boyfriend, baby i love you(cover), oh oh i lover her so, i love you, i remember you , etc,etc FUCK YOU. if you never got in love is because you are gay, all punk rock bands talk about love on some of their song loser
Back in the day, you'd always hear people say that the buzzcocks were the only punk band that could get away with singing love songs and still keep a following of the hardest core punkers. As usual the secret is great song writing and great hooks. Hooks a mile long but still three chords and a cloud of dust. Saw them three times here in LA back in my youth, and once more recently after they reformed. Envious of you Maxpower13. Joy Division as an opening act? The mind boggles.
I had this mega crush on bassist Steve Garvey and looking at this video nearly 30 years later he still pushes all those buttons for me. I went to see them at Newcastle City Hall, right at the front with all the gobbing, pogo-ing punks and just started at him for the whole concert. Probably freaked him out completely poor guy. The support band was Joy Division. What a brilliant era in music and what a brilliant concept Youtube is!
