Of course equivalency is limited in the analogy between the harvest of buffalo which is state regulated, and the harvest of whales which is done in territories belonging to no nation. Policed? No. Common sense regulation, yes; not a sensationalist zero tolerance ban, and not unregulated consumption. That is in fact the point of diplomacy; compromise.

In addition, the IUCN and like organizations do not have specific criteria for their inclusion of species on their endangered or threatened species lists. @alamos8 Not at all. In the 1800's, people did not have adequate knowledge of population dynamics, and did not realize that the bison were being overhunted until it was too late. Currently, it is legal to hunt bison, and bison meat is commonly sold all over the US, we have created a sustainable system which allows both profit and a healthy buffalo population. the same goes for the harvesting of minke whales, sustainability yields higher profit, economics 101.

However, the issue of the moratorium on whale harvest was dealt with after Japan entered into the IWC, and was not an original piece of the agreement. The diplomatically responsible way to go about this would be to allow regulated whaling

Common sense regulation is based on opinion, and that is where diplomacy and compromise come in. Trash the old IWC, and come up with one that allows some manner of whale harvest that the Japanese can agree with. If all else fails, countries have the full right to embargo.

In addition, the IUCN and like organizations do not have specific criteria for their inclusion of species on their endangered or threatened species lists. The Japanese will not kill whales to the point of extinction, simply because it is economically unprofitable to do so. Currently, it is legal to hunt bison, and bison meat is commonly sold all over the US, we have created a sustainable system which allows both profit and a healthy buffalo population. the same goes for the harvesting of minke whales, sustainability yields higher profit, economics 101.

However, the issue of the moratorium on whale harvest was dealt with after Japan entered into the IWC, and was not an original piece of the agreement. The diplomatically responsible way to go about this would be to allow regulated whaling

Paul Watson has Violated more international laws and commercial ordndinances than the whole japaneese whaleing fleet has. He should go to a UN or NATO sanctioned penintetiary facility.

All military vessels on the high seas should protect ANY other ships coming under attack from Green Peace/Sea Sheppard, by IMMEDIATELY firing on them. Shots to disable and sink the vessel should be used, and the crew taken into custody and charged with terrorist acts....PERIOD. Fuckin eco scumbags.

i think sea sheperds are silly.. they claim to be pirates, paul watson even says so himself multiple times throughout the series, and then they bitch and moan when actions are taken to prevent them from boarding etc. each crew member proudly says they are willing to lay their life down to protect whales, and then they do stupid things that almost get them killed and then they all cry and want to go home and are even more pissed off on the japanese coz they got cold and wet..
