  • This guy sounded an aweful lot like Walsh. I didn't know a lot about this band, but I always thought all the songs were sung by Steve Walsh, because to me, they all sounded like him. Now I know there were 2 different singers. Walsh was best, but this guy comes very close.

  • Cheers to the song! Jeers to the frizz ball hair! LOL

1:57 singer looks like a dwarf!

  • Comment removed

  • John and Dino Elephante are a phenominal pair of musicians who have worked with MANY of the best contemporary Christian artists of the last 30 years! They have produced for many albums!!! Can't say enough good things about them...

  • This brings back great memories. I was a Jr in H.S. & saw them 3 times this year. The beauty of NYC is the bands played the Garden, Nassau Coliseum. The Meadowlands, New Haven & Hartford. If you wanted to see a band several times, it wasn't a problem. Tickets were $8.50.

  • singer looks like jerry seinfield

  • I remember seeing this concert at the Minnesota State Fair back in 82'. I was always a huge Steve Walsh fan but thought Elefante did a good job. Didn't bring the passion to the songs that Steve did but he has a phenominal voice. Loved this stage setup, is was very cool in concert!! Wish we could get more Kansas footage this good from back in the day, great stuff Salporin!!

  • This song is about me, actually.

  • The look is very dated, but the music is timeless.

  • Extreme talent here...

  • This song is about John C Holmes

  • HATED this version.... compared to Steve Walsh this guy sucked out loud.

  • is this the original singer?

  • @martinrelayer - no. John Elefante is the singer in this video.

  • @martinrelayer ..noooooooooooo

  • @martinrelayer nope...Walsh was the original voice. Elefante is a born again christian with a slew of "christian" albums.

  • @bentley232 The song is actually about Albert Einstein

  • He's singing about Aleister Crowley.

  • @bentley232 Negative

  • who's the douche on flute?

  • @tannertehpianist I laughed at that comment but dude, that was unnecessary.

  • Wow! Thanks for uploading this, good to see a gifted group perform live.

  • great video thanks ..I try not to read the comments, Isd rather watch the video!!

  • look at the face robbie at 4:37 to 4:40 ,the way he looks at dave hope,,,,,,,WTF,,,Jjajja

  • this is one of the all time best of KANSAS

  • have to say...the performance here is much better than the 1980 Houston, TX clip of "Portrait He Knew" that's also circulating on youtube, even though Walsh is absent.

  • John Elefante singing, great voice, and has great solo records too

  • legendary.

  • richard simmons....

  • Who's the guy singing this?

  • his last name is elfante

  • I'm 51, a guitarist who still plays, and am smoking the same (not strain!) herb I was smoking when this album came out!

    Kansas kicks ass.

  • just turned 50 still loving kansas....my fucking job dictates that i can't smoke the earb. But i knew...that the music i listened to...would help to make through......I could still take a hit or two.

  • ... no comments! I just love them!

  • the drummer is awsome at the beginning

  • Great live performance and song! Singer John Elefante kicks ass but acts like a Steve Walsh standin;-) wich he was...

  • dchris...What does the d stand for? DUMBASS...dunbasschris...John Elefonte is Awesome...Love Him So Much!!!

  • goosebumps all over ... btw i think this about jesus or some other great visonair but who?

  • This song is about Albert Einstein.

  • wow really? i thought it was about Jesus man! but Einstein sounds very reasonable as well, how do you find this out ? ♥

  • Hi Lia, I have the 1994 box set (20th anniversary) and the explanation is from Kerry Livgren in the booklet that came with the set! There is also an interview which you can access online from 1992. Just google: in the studio with point of know return. Check out my channel, Ive posted a lot of Kansas stuff including some rare and lots of live stuff. They're just slideshows but the music is what it's all about!

  • this singer is great and sounds alot like steve on this song i feel. the drummer is great is it phil eaheart or not?it doesnt look like him he looks shorter and younger here if it is maybe its the beard.

  • This is without question Phil Ehart!

  • ty for the post!!! just a couple of bands I see as prophetic..and they are one of them.. music and song and words are timeless...... would love to see them again..

  • This .... is art. Kansas was never given the due they deserve. There will never be another group like them. just .... amazing.

  • indeed my fellow fan their one of a kind

  • It is sad that the veiws are so low!

  • the Hawaiian shirt on Robbie is brutal

  • Jedialladin,

    Send me the 50k..

According to The theory of Relativity, you know that paper Al wrote... every time you look at a star you are really seeing into the past. Your knowledge of Al's life is most lacking. For example, he predicted to his cousin/wife that a foolish young man would come visit him to discuss how to use his ideas to build a weapon 3 years before the first such visitor every showed up at his office. For the record, Al threw him out of his office!

  • KANSAS is a BAND. Maybe some new CDs this Decade.

KANSAS Attractions, at w w DECADESUSA c--o--m See Map: POKR & AudioVisions Rides-Art-Etc.

  • Livgren was Kansas though and he was and is likely the Mozart of our time. Enjoy this band, there will never be another Kansas. Thanks for the post Salp.

  • I know Phil Ehart, and the man playing drums in this video is Phil Ehart. Also, Elefante didn't do a bad job at all. As a matter of fact, I thought Vinyl Confessions was a very good album. Elephante, I thought nailed the old Kansas and in concert he always sang very well. The thing with Steve was you never knew which Steve would show up each night. Steve is one of my favorite vocalists but some nights on stage I had no idea what the hell he was doing. Then he had that stint with Cheap Trick.

  • JediAladdin - I don't disagree with your multiple assertions here. I don't necessarily buy the "Einstein is the Portrait focus" argument myself. But what's with your megalomania on this video? For someone so certain, you sure repeat yourself quite a bit. You made your point. Move on now. I love the song as it is. You've posted more to this than the topic deserves. C'mon, man.

  • When did Stevie Walsh morph into Seinfeld?

  • It's John Elefante!

  • Ha ha, i was actually thinking when did Elefante morph into Richard Simmons! Hi Rickyon! :-)

  • Hi Karen, It's good to hear from you again! Hope all is well. Poor Elefante. Everybody picks on that guy. He's having the last laugh. He's extremely successful in the Christian music biz more as a producer and manager than as a performer. It's funny that you chose this spot to comment because it came at the end of a spat I was having with that moron Zorack10. He was wrong about everything but I still have to eat crow and apologize. I told him no one else has played drums with Kansas............

  • I was wrong! It seems that in 1993 Phil took a break and not one but two different guys philled(get it) in for him. You learn new stuff all the time. Talk to you soon....Rick

  • Oh man, crow does not taste good! I never knew Phil left for a while either, he's so quiet, we didn't notice he was gone! We'll let you slide this time...

I always thought Elefante held his own with the Kansas songs, especially considering he was just a kid having to follow the great Steve Walsh, but he was a funny looking little guy! And he does favor Richard Simmons in his gait and mannerisms :-)

    See ya later! Karen

  • When you sent me a message saying that you are honorable and yet you are calling me a moron, what does that say about you? I apologize to salporin for being off-topic but I had to respond to this.

  • You're talking about two separate issues. #1 I'm honorable because I was wrong about something and went through the trouble 10 months later to find you and apologize. You're a moron because you called me a sad man who was blind and that I didn't know what I was talking about because I was not a "Child of the 70's". You were wrong about all those things and I consider them personal attacks. You should be honorable and apologize also but I don't expect that out of you!

  • No honor and no shame. I've come to expect that from you and I'm done with you and if Salporin wishes to delete this he can.

  • Barrymore Barlow on drums??? Anyone know?

  • Phil Ehart on drums, the only drummer that Kansas has ever had! Barriemore Barlow did play on Kerry Livgrens "Seeds of Change" C.D. and did an awesome job! Check it out if you haven't yet!

  • That is not Phil on drums,at this stage he was simply managing the band, can I lend you my glasses since you can't see any better than Jedialaddin can think?. Elefante was a poor choice to replace Kansas(they should have went with more of a Steve Walsh sounding clone)

  • No one, I repeat no one has ever played drums for Kansas other than Phil Ehart! My glasses work just fine because you are looking at Phil Ehart in this post! If anyone has Jedialaddin disease it is you! Where would you come up with such misguided garbage! As for Elefante a lot of people say that he is a "Steve Walsh sounding clone"! If you don't like Elefante why even visit this post!

  • Sad to say you are blind and not be a child of the 70's who grew up with Kansas and more than likely know much more than you.

  • I can see that you are just as dense and thick headed as our friend Jedi so as to not raise the ire again of Salporin with us having a neener-neener(as Salporin so eloquently put it!) argument I'm going to have to say to you Good Day Sir! I Said Good Day!

  • All I can do is shake my head, you're sad man.

  • You're a freakin moron.

  • Although you were completely wrong about everything I still must apologize to you because I passed along some bad information. You were off by about 10 or 11 years but it seems that someone other than Phil did play for Kansas in 1993. Phil took a sabbatical but continued to manage the band and returned the next year. So, continue to shake your head but this sad man is an honorable one and I apologize!

  • Right on salporin. Save the psycho-babble for a philosophical blog or chat room. This is Kansas man!!!! Kick ass vid.

  • Thank God Steve came back!

  • These neener-neener comments are starting to grate on me. Do I have to begin remove comments and blocking users so that this comments page doesn't become more difficult to read? I put these vids up for people to enjoy the visuals of the band; there gotta be other forums for philosophical back-and-forth.

  • This is a nice post Salporin. Thanks! I think that Elefante did a better job then anybody could have done filling in for Steve. I don't think that they could have picked up a better talent.

I would like to say that Steve's voice was definitely better than Elefante's when he was young. However, it deteriorated quickly. By the '90s, he was trying to scream out the lyrics. When I saw live in the late 90's in Japan, he sounded surprisingly good. His voice probably received a long much needed rest.

  • @salporin yes it wont be me!

  • @salporin

  • @salporin dont you worry, i can dig it

  • The Einey-Insisters have again retreated to the solitude of their bong rooms...to their gullible minds "E=MC = He could see into the future"! Everytime you hear this bit of lyric in the song, "He could see into the future", you will be reminded that it is indeed NOT about Einstein and you are the victims of a progressive rock prank. Einstein NEVER claimed to see into the future, $50,000 reward for proving otherwise stand intact and safe with me...waiting... tick tock...tick tock....

  • I am living off the interest of the secured $50,000 and that is what I have foreseen in the future since no one has posted ANY proof or claim at all that EINSTEIN could "see into the future" as the lyric directly states...

  • "Wow,I never thought of that",So whenever you can stimulate people to think, and to speculate and stuff,I consider it a success. You know, that was one of my personal goals in songwriting-was to make people use their brain cells" End quote! Evidently some people have trouble using their brain cells correctly! Go figure! Well hope that puts to rest for the rest of us as to who the song was about! ROCK ON!

  • $50,000 REWARD offered here to anyone with proof that Einstein "could see into the future"...Livgren is pulling your leg with your imagined Mystic Einstein. NO one, including Einstein, has ever even CLAIMED that Einstein could see into the future. The song clearly states "He could see into the future" so it is, therefore, NOT EINSTEIN. You have just lost $50,000 for lack of any proof or even claim that Einstein "could see into the future"...pity... pity...tsk tsk

  • "getting to the fabric of the universe.I thought, what an amazing man.And I was so fascinated with the guy,ONE DAY I WROTE A SONG ABOUT HIM!The interesting thing about Portrait,is that no one seemed to catch on about who it was about.I mean the list of people they thought it was about was incredibly long.AND PEOPLE CAME UP WITH ALL THESE REASONS WHY THIS IS WHO THEY THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT.And they would always corner me and say "who's that about?"When i would say Albert Einstein they would say

  • Livgren is really yanking your chain good! :) "Who's that about?" It's a lot like Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" and her dropping hints and names by saying, "Someone asked me if it was so and so" and people take off with it or the interviewer acts like one name is more right than another. Just because he mentions Einstein does not make it fit. YOU are being pranked by Kansas. You can't escape that line "He could see into the future", since Einstein NEVER claimed he could, and that settles it :)

  • O.K. this is more for the Kerry Livgren fans than it is for the delusional KnightGenie! In an interview on Sept.7th, 1992 Kerry Livgren Says quote "I've always been a very avid reader, read a lot of science fiction, read a lot of philosophy,a lot of religious books,a lot of science and I was always fascinated with Albert Einstein, and the fact that he went so far with mathematics and physics, that he actually crossed the line into metaphysics and philosophy and he was actually

  • Rickyon, do you even KNOW what metaphysics IS? Metaphysics is that portion of philosophy which treats of the most general and fundamental principles underlying all reality and all knowledge. Metaphysics is NOT placing Einstein, a scientist, at the Seance table with crystal ball & OUIJA board, claiming "he could see into the future" when Einstein himself, NEVER claimed to be able to see into the future. This is a truth you can't escape. So suggesting Einey was a medium is an insult to his memory.

  • It would appear our Detractors of the Truth have fled to the relative safety and solidarity of their bong rooms for now to gather their thoughts...$50,000 offer still stands to you Einey-Insisters.

  • So funny that people refuse to READ the lyric and LISTEN to the song, and choose to run around in the dark shouting "EINSTEIN, IT'S EINSTEIN!!!" when the lyric does not fit (see all post below 2-3 pages deep as lyric is exposed light) while the band snickers it's hind end off at ya...it is one of the funniest pictures painted in the history of progressive rock music! "Masquerading as a man with a reason, my charade is the event of the season" NOW, you GET Kansas.

  • $50,000 REWARD offered here to anyone with proof that Einstein "could see into the future"...the glove doesn't fit so you two have quit :)

  • I suggest that you take the advice of the earlier poster and google Livgren Einstein and you will find words from the mind whom you claim to know saying exactly what we've been saying all along. But you probably won't beleive this either so I think nothing is going to convince you! Good luck in your fantasy world. I think you are lost in an enigma that no one wants to uravel today! Good day Sir! I SAID GOOD DAY!

  • You still FAILED to prove Einstein could see into the future...we are all waiting...thanks:)

  • Jedi, you need serious help. Have you ever heard of artistic license or metaphores? With rickyon I say goodbye and good riddance!

  • Getting mad and slamming the door proves you are wrong...hours are passing and still no proof posted that Einstein "could see into the future"...we are ALL still waiting...tick tock...tick...tock...OH!! Now we call all see it is NOT Einstein! :)

  • So here is where we are now! Give me a break! You're one of those people who when confronted with a video or audio tape with proof of what you are disputing will say "You can doctor tapes". The original "Portrait" is about Einstein and "Portrait 2" was an upgraded version of the song with the words changed to be about Jesus! I know we've been fooled! It was all a joke by the band! Were not inside the head of Kerry Livgren like you are! You know what Livgren meant

  • So here is where we are now. Youtube user rickyon claims the Kansas drummer told him the song is about Einstein and user Tralman1965 claims he read Kansas guitar player's autobiography that said to him the song is about Jesus. I hope Ehart & Livgren never fight it out on stage. I WOULD pay to go see it. How would a judge/jury rule when you have TWO contradicting witnesses and testimony that does not match? Our examination of actual lyric below PROVES BOTH Jesus & Einstein just don't fit.

  • Ok. I read Livgren's autobiography and portrait was about Jesus. He even did portrait 2 on one of his christian albums. He said it was a new age Jesus and portrait 2 was the biblical Jesus.

  • You are being teased again if you believe that "new age Jesus" stuff. Again, you MUST read the lyric to easily see Portrait does NOT refer to Jesus. "He lived alone with his vision", no, Jesus had apostles and many followers with him as he was a TEACHER. "Never said to much to speak of." Wrong, he said PLENTY and we all speak of it today. "No one could see his view", many did and are called Christians. "He's lost in the deepest enigma", NO! Christ is the way & the answer not "lost in enigma".

  • I'm going by what the writer of the song said before your interpretation if that's ok.

  • Can you give us the exact "quote" out of the book? Even so, the writer of the song knows who it is about, and it is not beyond the band to pull people's legs every now and then over stuff like this ...and again, it is obvious from examining the actual lyric, Jesus does NOT fit.

  • In addition, Jesus did not "have a glimpse of the masterplan", rather, He IS the Master. Big difference there.

  • The writer of the song is Livgren who wrote the book explaining it. Sheesh!

  • "No one could see his view, Oh where was he going to

And he tried, but before he could tell us he died", no, many see his view & he told us where he is going to (His Father's House) and he told us BEFORE he died on the cross. "But there's something he never told us

It died when he went away

If only he could have been with us

No telling what he might say", Jesus told us ALL He needed to say and we all have it in the Bible and did not HOLD OUT secrets on us.

  • "It was totally something new" No, the New Testament is just the fullfillment of the prophecies in the Old Testament so is NOT totally something new. So there you have it. Simple examination of the ACTUAL LYRIC reveals the song is absolutely not about Jesus Christ, "new age" or otherwise.

  • During this tour a friend who knew the tour manager got us on the will call list.Survivor was the opening act and we got to sit on the stage during their performance. We were given floor seats for the Kansas portion because they used mirrors on stage(which you can see in all of these posts of this show)After the show we were escorted backstage to meet the band. All of the members were very nice(I didn't get to meet Livgren)

  • I can assure you I will never forget my one on one conversation with Phil Ehart!(I am also a drummer)As I said he told me that "Portrait" is about Einstein and "Closet Chronicles" is about Howard Hughes. Rationalize it any way you see fit but you are dead wrong on this one and if first hand proof won't do for you then I don't know what will!

  • ONLY the truth will do and in this case of lyric, Einstein does NOT fit. Period. I have already quoted lyric where Einey does NOT match in any way...SO, go ahead and have at it right here and now and show us how Einstein DOES meet the lyrics I have quoted below in the demonstration post. SHOW ME! Start where Einstein ever claimed to see into the future. Thanks...I will be standing by...

  • ...and when did anybody from Kansas ever take an oath and swear to God to tell and reveal to you the "secret" of who the song is about? Why should they? Who are you to them? A fan? So? You and the others are being teased by them about Einstein and the other false assertions.

  • WRONG. Carefully review TOTAL lyric. This song is not about Crowley, Jesus,

Buckminster Fuller, Nostrodamus, Einstein or ANY one person. (example:

Einstein never claimed to see future) This song is like ALL other Kansas

songs. The song is about ALL of us, that is, our alter ego!(like Wayward

Son, The Wall etc...) It is about the "wizard" in all of us that only

occasionally shows itself when we drop our unbelief. So the riddle is

solved. The song is about all men and us, but no single man

  • That's funny because I had the great pleasure of meeting the band on this tour and my first question to them was who was this song about? Phil Ehart said that it was about Albert Einstein. He also offered up without my asking that "Closet Chronicles" was about Howard Hughes. But you sound like you have it all figured out so never mind!

  • You guys claiming Kansas TOLD you that is HEARSAY. READ the LYRIC! It does NOT fit Einstein at all. "No one could see his view" when the whole world has seen it. "His numbers were not the way" Einstein's numbers ARE the way. "But nobody understood him", we DO understand him. "But there's something he never told us, it died when he went away". NO, he told us before he died and it has NOT gone away...and Einstein never claimed to see into the future...No Kansas member says "Einstein" on the site.

  • You guys claiming Kansas TOLD you that is HEARSAY. READ the LYRIC! It does NOT fit Einstein at all. "No one could see his view" when the whole world has seen it. • Hey why don't you type in the search Livgren+Einstein on google.

Go to the link "In the studio with Redbeard" interview from the potsw fan website. It will be one of the first links.

    Read.

Livgren tells specifically of writing this song about Einstein because of his and Einstein's fascination with metaphysics (hence his numbers are not the way) and the fact that people didn't understand the wholeness of his person but focused only on relativity and his role in the Manhattan project and such

  • The so-called interview rings bogus. You need a statement straight from Livgren himself. The truth is the lyric does NOT fit Einstein as demonstated in my current post here. If anything, the lyric fits Livgren himself MORE than Einstein or anyone mentioned here. Now, the lyric fits LIVGREN HIMSELF! "He knew, knew more than me or you...and he tried but before he could tell us he died, when he left us the people cried", allegory to Livgren's rebirth in Christ Jesus...The numbers are his music.

  • Read Livgren's book 'Seeds of Change' and you'll find out who this song is about. It isn't Einstein or Jesus.

  • hi...thanks...can you clue us in some here? Tell us something out of the book? thanks...:)

  • I can't for the life of me remember the guy's name. I'll have to dig the book out. I've moved a couple times since I've read it. I do remember he was an Eastern philosopher. You need to remember this was prior to Livgren's transformation to Christianity. He was real big into the eastern religions. The book deals with him becoming a Christian and how Jesus changed him personally and professionally.

  • Wow...you've got to be kidding me. It is the transcription of a recorded audio interview - one that you can purchase on CD - as it was part of a show detailing everything about the Point of Know return Album!! Kerry Livgren, Phil Ehart and others are interviewed, and its a nationally known and syndicated program!!!

Are you a conspiracy theorist or are you just unwilling to accept any answer that doesn't fit what you've already pre-decided.

Go download the program - its on the web somewhere

  • A joke is being played on you by Kansas. Youtube user rickyon claims the Kansas drummer told him the song is about Einstein and user Tralman1965 claims he read Kansas guitar player's autobiography that said the song is about Jesus.

  • Ok Jedi, we're both wrong. I have the book in front of me and I quote: "This was a musical portrait of Albert Einstein(though it could also apply to a number of historical figures). At the end of his life he was searching hard to find the missing elements in his unified field theory." Rickyon was right.

  • I know Livgren is the writer & song is a joke played on you by the band. Einstein NOT "lost in the deepest enigma which no one's unraveled today". We understand Einstein. "Before he could tell us he died" & "it died when he went away" means it is NOT an historical figure, since THEY all have left their permanent mark. Like ALL Kansas songs, it is about the wizard that hides in each of us. KANSAS "The Pinnacle": Knowledge and reason change like the season, A Jester's Promenade". NOW you get it!

  • and it is DEFINITELY NOT about Einstein! Livgren is pulling your leg. Don't you get it? Don't you get Kansas? "A Jester's Promenade" Masquerading as a man with a reason, my charade is the event of the season" Don't you guys get Kansas at all???

  • What are you smokin'? It must be nice to know more about Livgren's songs than Livgren himself.

  • You still don't get Kansas...how sad...& how funny that you can listen to the song in your living room & ignore the lyric, line by line, which proves it is not Einstein as the song is sung into your ears. That is the joke played on you by the songwriter & band. Put up a huge portrait of Einstein on the wall by your stereo & gaze upon it as you listen to the very words of lyric haunt you the rest of your life leving your brain trembling with doubt. Truth over your wishful thinking.

  • ...and if you believe RICKYON is right, then PROVE it by showing one shred of evidence that Einstein "could see into the future" as the song says about the subject. It does not exist even on the internet. No one has ever even fabricated such a LIE about Einstein to say the Einey claimed he could see into the future.

  • You and the others are being teased by Kansas about the song being about Einstein. Einey simply does NOT fit the lyric. If so, show us that Einstein said he could see into the future and on and on with the other lyric I have already posted in my demonstrations here. I will be standing by for the answer. Why should Kansas tell anyone who the song is actually about? They are playing a joke on you since Einey obviously does not fit.

  • I agree with others he looks like a total goob but he he does sing the song pretty well. Not an easy song to cover vocally, I'm sure.

  • Thank God I got to see these guys back in the day before this flamer of a twit took over vocals. The guy is a twisted blend of Richard Simmons, the dwarf from Air Supply, and a hint of Manilow. GAY GAY GAY. Good to see Steve back with them all these years later. Like to see Kerry in there full force tho.

  • yeah, richard simmons, i like richard though.

  • I like this song very much. I´d rather see it with Steve-he is undoutebly better singer than John Elefante. I´m wondering why, after Steve´s departure, they searched a new lead singer-they still had Robby Steinhardt. Maybe you wont agree with me but Robby is better than John!

Btw. The drum intro is amazing! Long live Phil Ehart!

  • No. You are wrong! I would agree with you in some bizarro universe that Robby is better than John. In that universe Albert Einstein would sing lead on this song and Howard Hughes would sing lead on "Closet Chronicles"!

  • But if Albert Einstein would sing lead on this song and Howard Hughes would sing lead on "closet chronicles", how we can than compare Robby and John (or even Steve and John) ?

  • John would be the sound man and Robbie would be the guitar tech. Can't you see that! Just a joke my friend. btw both of those songs are about those people. Also btw,the guy paying sax, keyboards and singing backing vocals almost got the job over Elefante. What do you think they would of sounded like then? Don't get me wrong Warren Ham is a great singer!

  • I know that it is a joke. I just wanted to continue. And I know that the songs are about those people. And I have never heard singing Warren Ham solo.

  • type in kerry livgren in the you-tube search field when you get the results the first entry should be Tonight-Kerry Livgren & AD [exitfest1984]. It's one of many AD clips that come up but in this one you can see Livgren,Hope and Ham almost from the start.

  • THX for the type. I have seen the video just a moment ago. And must say that Warren is a great great singer. And Kerry rules doing the guitar and keyboards. Good music. Keep on rockin´!

  • This is the kansas that I saw at the best

concert I ever attended. This is Wow stuff.

Thanks for the muscic. 5 Stars

  • Livgren produced a solo album called Prime Mover where he did a recreation of this song and called it Portrait II. That song was about Christ, and is sung by Warren Ham who sounds a little more like Steve Walsh when he sings it. Warren Ham is in this video, too, as the flutist, keyboard player and background vocalist.

  • Iam luckey to have seen this!

  • Kansas debate on this tune: Einstein-Jesus ?

Who did Kerry write this about ?

Bright as a star. Died when he went...

People cried... He never told us... etc.

Only Kerry Knows. Maybe Dave Hope too ?

    Kerry On !

  • Original version: Albert Einstein

  • Einstein is correct-

  • muito bom! mesmo!

  • I need to add Awesome guitar, fiddles, drums, I forgot just how cool this song was!!!! It was my favorite Kansas song:)

  • Awesome keyboard song!!! Thanks for posting 5*****j

  • I Can't Believe This Wasn't

    Played More On The Radio!!!

  • No good without Steve Walsh.

  • I agree and no matter what anyone says he still has it! Elefante can sing, but could SANG!!

  • Thanks for posting brings back great memories!!

  • i agree that Phil never got the respect he deserved...amazing drummer on a par with Neil Peart

  • I also agree. He got an interesting layout to his kit, with the toms stacked in two rows.

  • Phil Ehart is quite possibly the most underrated drummer of all time. He is an animal.

As for the Walsh/Elefante debate, I prefer Walsh, but Elefante isn't bad at all.

  • kansas is amazing

    walsh is amazing

    elefante just cant compare...im sorry

  • Unfortunately, Walsh was amazing. Now Kansas is better off replacing him. Its sad.

  • Thanks for posting Sal. Kansas Blessings.

  • this song became part of my soul as i know it today!

  • Steve or JOHn doesn´t matter. GREAT SOUND

  • I saw walsh and he was without a doubt singing with some adlibbing I might say. I also like Steve better. But if there had to be a second Jon would be the man.

  • Why this song is not in the greatest hits?

  • This song was written about Albert Einstein

  • I have been out of the progrock loop for a while, well, for a VERY LONG TIME. John Elephante is an amazing vocalist! I know, all of you who are reading this and love Steve Walsh are hating me. Well, I saw Walsh once and was very sad - it seemed like he was lipsinking (and I was not the only one who thought so).

  • A masterwork!

  • This is the Kansas song the radio stations should've played.

  • A song with deep & articulate lyrics, delving into Human Nature; the music, ambitious, progressive & great!

    "Nobody understood him,

his number are not the way..." Wow!

  • Amen Shalawly! What an underrated progressive rock band. This is classic to see this version! Whoever posted this, there's a place in Heaven for people like you!

  • Pretty dang good drum solo intro ! I like the old singer better though, Steve Walsh. This guy, John Elefante, was only with Kansas for just a little while; only two records, then went on to a solo career. But in 1986, they reunited with Walsh. Even still, I like the older stuff the best. Thanks Salporin !

  • I like Steve Walsh better than Elefante too.

  • one of my favorites by them :) thanks!

  • A million thanks for posting this rare concert!!!
