@mduering81 I'm a fan of Samsung LED Smart TV's , so I have the 46 inch one from this year. Lots of people like them bigger, and I used to have a BIG screen of the old style TV a few years ago, and it hogged up the whole room. Since I didn't want that again and I hate wall mounts . I went with the 46. Great Picture though IMO. Stuff other people complain looks bad, to me usually looks decent . I watch pretty much all HD now though or upconverted DVDs.
@JDD67 Talking about actors whose presence overcomes some pretty dodgy scripts... one of my friends who also loves movies got me into the Hammer films which I hadn't seen since Iwas a kid and for carrying films I'd say Peter Cushing has got to be up there as one of the best.
@ralphmmitchell He was great in the Frankenstein films . I always think of that Doctor Who movie that Cushing made and he couldn't save that one for me .
@JDD67 Much of my love for old movies was growing up seeing so many of them on TV in the 70s - I tend to collect movies by the actors in them more than anything else. I think I've got most of my Fonda ones now, still to see "Advise &Consent"? I read somewhere that he hated "Spencer's Mountain" - I've never seen it but I got the impression it was too cheesy like the Waltons certainly that would be the antithesis of his character Fank in "Once Upon A Time" :)
@ralphmmitchell I kind of hate the saying "So bad its good", but Spencers Mountain is kind of like that . I do think the Waltons was based on it . I liked the Waltons though, as a story , its better then Spencers Mountain but I just liked watching Fonda work around what IMO was some crazy writing .
@JDD67 Just off the top of my head some of my HF favourites are "Warlock" and "Once Upon A Time in The West" which was an amazing piece of casting. I'm not so keen on his movies before the 50s as I find them a bit old fashioned but I like to see all the later ones.
@ralphmmitchell I like some of the earlier ones, but I grew up watching the late night movies . So Stuff like "How the west was won", "Fort Apache" , "Spencers mountain" come to mind. 12 Angry men was THE big role for him but he was good in everything IMO, even the lessor roles.
I'd just like to chip in and say I enjoy your style of presentation also and look forward to hearing your views. I would be sorry to see you pack it in because of same airheads giving you jip. On this video my favourite has to be 12 Angry Men - great movie plus Henry Fonda I always think had an amazing screen presence. Anyway I hope you keep doing these!
@Ggould1975 Ahh, seems like they would sell better together then apart so they could work together but I know sometimes thats like getting two enemy nations to come to an agreement.
I saw a really cool Woodstock box set on amazon today. That set might be worth checking out as a companion piece for your Monterrey Pop box set. Thanks for another great update.
now as for your movies.. i actually thought flypaper was pretty cool (better than i expected) silly humor but fun. love all the criterions you got.. i see your a big music fan. i wont usually buy that stuff, mostly just cd's for myself. i also really dug mystery train.. the japenese tourist were my favorite part as well. 12 angry men is a classic and still on my wishlist! great update as usual bud.
@CraigsReviews1 I've always preferred to see the musicians if I can so If they make a documentary on some music stuff I like I try and get my hands on it. Anymore the rest of the time to just listen , most of the time I just hit up Itunes and save the space. Though with The classic acts I like to have the physical CD.
glad to hear your back pal. screw those hecklers on youtube. you do a great job and there are many of us here who love to hear you talk about stuff as its all our passions. i run into my wall every week wondering if all the effort my videos take are worth it with sometimes only 50 views each. way i look at it is just keep chucking along and doing it for yourself, hopefully people notice.
@BRm2008 I have Broken Flowers, that was another weird quirky film. Just looked up Ghost Dog, now I sortta want to see that - at the right price . Gives me something to hunt for .
@BRm2008 I don't notice one at all, everybody else around here sounds the same LOL, but I'm in the Chicago area so if anything I suppose that rubbed off .
Law and Order UK is really good. You won't be disappointed. I jwatched it on TV, but still want to pick it up on DVD. Good video, hope you keep making them. I really enjoy them.
@buffdaddybill Thanks. So the L & O UK holds up with the rest of them ? I figured it would be fine especially since I'm already a fan of some of the cast .
Cannonball Run still hols up well actually....alot of classic actors in that! Three Amigos ya know it took me a bit to actually watch it cuz it wasn't really that popular at the time but it is a fricken hilarious movie. If you like Steve Martin, Chevy Chase you should like it.
@Ggould1975 Seems like they could have put out Cannonball 1 and 2 in a set for cheap if they wanted to. Hey maybe those will give me something to keep an eye out for with the big Black Friday sales.
@JDD67 Yes it does thats what made me want to watch it. Your not going to find it on Bluray. I would get the 3 dollar used copy off amazon.com. You wont regret it.
@woolcroft Thats more what I was hoping to do, make it more like I'm just talking to people sitting across from me then putting on a show or something.
@wesvance I've been watching them but haven't seen anything that I liked, that I didn't already have . I'm thinking of venturing into Walmart on Black Friday but I'd rather just hit up some online deals.
@JDD67 Yeah I'm finding some...last year was better I think. I have a problem paying full price for anything lol always been that way so I usually wait on sales like these to grab a lot stuff!! By the way don't let the haters get u down, almost all of them are too chicken shit to even record a video themselves!!
@wesvance In 2012 I want to try and do that more often, shop the sales, get better deals. I know I can't do it with everything, but there are a lot of things I could benefit from waiting for a little. People here are already camping out at best buy , line around the building. I don't need anything that bad. I think I will try and hit up walmart though and see whats on all those sealed up pallets.
@mrreviews1995 thats just the way he talks or presents his opinions, you cant knock somebody for being who they are, if he didn't have passion about what he does he wouldnt be on here week after week putting up video's and dealing with some of the jackasses here on youtube!
Did you see that they released The Cannonball Run and Three Amigos on Bluray? Three Amigos has a booklet inside with the cast...martin, chase and short doing interviews for it's 25th anniversary. Love your videos man!
Glad your back again, please don't stop these updates man-- your great and I always look forward to them, you have really good taste in movies. Have a Happy Thanksgiving :)
@DeanOfDVD I am a fan of the film but I've been waiting to see if they release it on Blu-ray. As far as I've seen so far its only on DVD . Good movie .
No! Don't stop making videos man, you're the main reason I got into collecting blu-rays, just try to skip over those bad comments and read all the good ones.
@Stormyhog I was just watching the Criterion Blu or Dazed and Confused last night . Second time since I bought it and watched through the special features, at the end I still wanted more to watch. Ben Affleck was such a douche in that movie LOL
Monterey Pop is fantastic - it was the biggest moment for Hendrix, and Otis is pure gold. Gimme Shelter is anther gem and a brilliant historic document. Super 8 was my favorite popcorn film of the summer! Great pick-ups
@hotwaterwrestling I was really fascinated with gimme Shelter. I had always read about what happened but never seen it. I had owned a previous version of Monterey Pop but this one is so much nicer.
Hey man I just started watching your videos you can't stop now they are to good and who cares what others say fuck them do what you do bro have a great holiday
Love 12 angry men. Didn't know 12 angry men was released by Criterion yet. Some Great pick ups. Mystery Train sounds intriguing. Should just try and ignore the trolls, enjoy your videos on movies, comics, and collectables and look foward to them.
@edgartooms When its just somebody doesn't like the video thats one thing, but some of the creepy BS I was getting for a couple days is ridiculous. Thanks for watching though, and commenting all the time.
@edgartooms 12 Angry Men came out just today actually. Thats such a great movie IMO. I'm a big fan of that type a film, like that, Lifeboat, things with no special effects , no car crashes or explosions, gun fights etc its much harder to draw an audience in but they did it. I like a great action flick as much as the next person but I can appreciate them being able to do a film like this with none of that , and still hold my attention glued to the screen.
@citrusoi Thank you. I'd like to review more, but thats a different skill and I don't have the time to do that, so I just collect and talk about stuff briefly if I can.
Very cool stuff. I'm just wondering, did you get the book "The Batman Files" which came out a few weeks ago? I'm just curious what people think of it.
@TWOMERCY I looked at it, at Barnes and Nobels, and I want it. I just don't want it for that price, and they put security tags on the pages inside that can't be removed with out damage so I passed, for now. I could get a nice price on it at Amazon, but its pretty heavy and has a cover that could be dinged up pretty easily. So I'd like to just grab it in person at some convention or something.
Another great update as usual! :) Always look forward to seeing what new stuff you get...don't let some haters get'cha down!!
