Kobayashi is at a huge advantage when he comes to the states. When you watch the competition, there is always a loud annoying announcer shouting and making jokes. Kobayashi is able to tune out the american bullshit and focus all his attention on eating. It slows you down when you listen to how well everyones doing.

@Craig78910 Agreed. Kobayashi is also hampered culturally: 1) Most contests are American, and patriotic crowds are a factor.  This was evident in the 4TH OF JULY Nathan's contests, where crowds chanted "USA" and opined that hot dogs are American. A Japanese fanbase is non-existent. He also doesn't speak English. 2) Chestnut loves hot dogs and eats them regularly. Kobayashi has said that he only eats it for the contest. It's a specialty food in Japan, unavailable in every neighborhood.
