@robert123ro no risk? are you stupid? they could have easily twisted an ankle or broken a bone. there is no guarantee that broken bones and joints will set properly. they could have just as easily fell into a freezing stream or lake if their boat capsized, in which case, the crew might not be able to save them in time.
@TheGameHeaven it is a risk. shit, falling down while walking is one of the leading causes of fractures for the elderly. most people do not see it this way because they assume it's all safe. generally recognized as safe is considered 1 in a million btw, which means 300 people die every year from something that is "safe"
@biohax A lot of elderly die in their sleep. Is it a risk for young people? If I walk on a concrete road or in a forest I don't think I'm taking any kind of risks.
Life isnt easy up here, every one thinks that big game is easy to find but if you dont dont know what your doing any big game will hear you and run. Its not easy to survive in the wilderness out here. I think they should have put atleast one person in the group that was from alaska that knows how to survive. Part of surviving is knowing how to handle the cold and what to do. They should have atleast had a good week of first hand training by a survivalist before they were dropped off.
I think the show was very unrealistic. It sems funny Carolyn quit the day before the final day. And when they reached the train tracks rather than sent up camp for the night they waited for the train to appear as though they were at a Metro stop. The rail line was maybe a freight track where a train appears once every two weeks, but it happened to show up the same day the group arrived, and maybe Carolyn didn't have any family members to meet her at the station.
My Discovery channel doesnt show all of these shows. All i get is mythbusters, dirty jobs, how its made, dailyplanet, deadliest catch, canadas worst handyman/driver, destroyed in seconds and there all reruns...its gay. sometimes i get a new show but only once in a while. i live in toronto.
They had training.
Some of you don't get it: this was supposed to be a TV show. The mistakes make it look more real and are part of the show.
Anyway, this was not true survival. They didn't risk anything. They had an entire team right beside them, they were not in real danger at any time.

@biohax You can twist an ankle while walking on a concrete road. I really wouldn't call that "taking risks".

Even a experienced backpacker would be in pain at times.... these complete noobies were making major mistakes at every oppurtunity from day one.
the producers were unrealistic.
they might have at least given them one guide and a little more supplies.
If I was placed with these people I would probably opt to do it alone then with these spirited but dangerously naive people.

They thought they knew, but they had no idea. Kind of like the time they assumed they knew what Beyonce's life was really like.
