The Wolf was trying to separate a cub from his Mom to a long distance and finish him off..the cub was smart enough not to chase the wolf beyond a limit..the Mom was not bothered about the single wolf but was bothered as she knows that wolves are known to be in packs and was worrying about the safety of the cubs...

From watching this video, the wolf truly, is Not a threat. At first the Momma felt threatened and even the cubs were scared. Later on, I noticed that she appeared more relaxed and more annoyed than anything else and by the Wolf's body language, it really wasn't trying to hurt the cubs. It just wanted to play^_^ That is until Momma had enough lol

Wolfs, as most predators, seem to looks playful when hunting. This is basicly because the animals get excited and use the same gestures as when playing.

Sorry folks but this wolf was not playing. It was trying to draw one or the other cub away from it's mother....probably to the trees where the rest of the pack was hiding/waiting...this is a common tactic wolves use to kill dogs. One wold will come out to either tempt the dog to play or defend it's home/territory, then when in the trees the pack attacks.

Wolf-grizzly interactions are very interesting. Anyone interested can do google searches and find some articles.

-Wolf packs occasionally kill cubs and even adult female grizzlies. The wolf here though looked like it was playing (dogs initiate play with each other by jumping and landing with their legs far in front and their head lowered....perhaps I didn't describe it well, but you could see the wolf do that several times here).

-Bears regularly steel wolf pack's kills.

A pack of wolves and a large male bear usually cancel each other out,both sides power enough to stop blood shed and both sides usually go there own way,but it has been documented that packs of wolves do kill bears especially females coming out of their winter dens,but I have never heard of a wolf being killed by a bear,though it has to have happened,its agility and speed would probably be enough to get away.
