I remember causing myself crazy eye-strain from playing some of these games on the original GBA... and then the DS came along... I played GBA games on the backlit screen for a year before I got my first DS game :D
I must been missing out on the gameboy systems. I remember the Gameboy SP, but that third Gameboy system. I've never seen that one before. Is that the newest one?
So eloquently said, I definitely want to try out Sword of Mana now just by the pictures alone. The colorful details and beauty of the work are clear. Especially after you said SoM was inspiring to you, I have games that have inspired me and it is so powerful, so I can reflect on what you're saying.
also, have you played Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance? I have that one but haven't played much. Circle of the Moon is great, but is Aria of Sorrow the best? I want it either way. And tell me what you thought of Harmony of Dissonance if you've played.
@algol291 I played all Castlevania games. As for HoD, I loved it, but felt it was the weakest of the Metroidvania games, mainly because the subpar music and level design with too few teleport points and too much backtracking. But what I really oved was the atmosphere, the whole castle felt so surreal and otherworldly with its bright, contrasting colors, freaky backgrounds and its overall chaotic design.
@rhapsodythebest I agree. I beat (almost, didn't find all furnishing to fight Drac) the game in like 6-7 hours last week and the set up is way too chaotic. Your level hits a certain point and the games easy. But, I'm going to pick up Aria of Sorrow after I get Metroid: Zero Mission next week off e-bay.
@algol291 Because Pokémon FR/LG is simply a great game. I did play and watch Pokémon as a kid, but the reason I like this game is not nostalgia, but simply because it's a well made, enjoyable and atmospheric RPG.
@19Szabolcs91 Oh, ok. I thought you were a teeny bobber who liked Pokemon. Didn't think it'd be a good game.
You don't have any Metroid games on your list. Never play any? You can get Metroid Fusion for under ten bucks, and if you can find Zero Mission, even better (though I've never played that one). If you like Metroid, Fusion is a necessity.
Oh, and a pro tip: after you hit the record button, wait a second, and then start talking, and then cut off that first second, so we can't hear that mouse click before every second sentence you say.
Actually, if you save in Golden Sun after defeating the final boss, you can't go back anywhere at all. :o They shouldn't have let you save after that point in my opinion.
Anyway, great list, it has really awesome games in it. Strangely, while I really loved the Minish Cap, i still thought it was the least good 2D Zelda game... not counting of course the spinoffs and the first two games. It doesn't meen it's not amazing, however.
That's why I said at the beginning that I only include games that came out in English, so that I can talk about more games and PW3 won't take the number 1 slot again.
Best GBA game is Mother 3.

i want sonic advanced and the Mario bros. rpg.
Why Pokemon? Why? Guess you had to be a second, third generation gamer. I was already 18 when advance was around. when did Advance come out, 2001?

@algol291 I actually played all the 2D ones, and liked them, but... the competition is strong on the GBA it didn't make the list for me.
