Nice to find this on Youtube! I'm in this documentary! Well... you'll see me on concertina and the button box and drums. At time indexes 3:45-4:28 & 16:40-17:04.
I was not at my best during the taping of this. You can find me on YouTube. Just search for "World Wide Polkas"! This was 10 years ago when this documentary was done. I'm currently 39. Will be 40 in Dec. of 2011. (Keep the music alive!)
Can't believe.Looks like Polka people are stereotipe all over the world. No sence for mucic, rythm or allmost nothing emotional...it's a must be if you're brain washed conservative.Their choice.Mine is geting away from these cold alps, their cold people and cold music as soon as posible.
I grew up about 50miles from Gibbon, MN and would visit my Great-Grandparents in Fairfax, MN. Watching these couples reminds me so much of Southern Minnesota. The lady names Ruthie with the red and white outfit is an exact match for my grandma. Polka is the roots music for midwesterns who come from central European stock. Back in Germany, Poland, and the lands of Czechs and Slovaks the dance music was played with brass and drums and the concertina
I loved it! I grew up in Texas, and went to alot of Polka shows as a kid but I thought they were boring. But growing up I moved to Ensenada, Mexico, and fell in love with Norteno music. The two are very simular considering the accordion and sousaphone. I enjoyed the documentary very much and it the ending just reaffirmed somethings for me, because I love to play Tex Mex polkas on my accordion, and most people just don't get it. But there is just something to it, it just makes you bounce.
I'm a 39 year old Southern woman in Arkansas, and I would LOVE to get in on this! It looks so FUN!!!
