  • I always thought the human implosion effects in this were pretty horrific and gruesome, seen twice in this preview.

  • connery was perfectly cast for this, excelllent film

  • i always wanted to do a remake/crossover of OUTLAND / SPACE 1999 ...instead of moonbase alpha blasted into the nether regions of space it would have been IO, and the con-am 27 colony ( mining town). have O'neil and Lazarus take the lead over keonig and russel.

  • I continue to think this is one of the best science-fiction movies of the late 70's/ early 80's. It deals heavily on story and suspense. Not quite Blade Runner or Mad Max, but a fine, fine film none the less.

  • @djhagler Agreed this sits on my shelf alongside Bladerunner, mad max, aliens etc, not better, but holds it's own, a personal favourite this, Connery though, is gold in almost everything.

  • IS THERE MUCH SPACE STUFF IN THIS????????? or is it just sean running????? i'm seious btw

  • hey I knew that filmmaker BEFORE

  • yeah, extended space travel is possible, the ships would be like those of 2001: a space oddysey, that is, the crew compartment would be spinning at such a speed as to allow centrifugal force to work as a substitute for gravity.

  • Great film, superb score!

  • the zero gravitiy makes long space exploration impossible.. the human body would lose all bone and muscle tissue, you could never return to earth again, cuz the gravitiy would snap your spine like a toothpick..

even a moonbase is a waste of money to construct. it has to high risk of being hit by debris, and a person could only stay there for a limited period of time.

space flight is limited, cuz of the human body. Mars is useless, backpains cuz higher gravity and solar radiation^^ gl

  • @HijikataToushiro people spent months or years at the international space station using a range of excercise machines to prevent muscular and skeletor degeneration. There is always a way around something, anything is possible. Maybe calcium injections or inertia/gravity dampers may be possible in the future, who knows...

  • @HijikataToushiro too bad it's true. i guess i watch too much star trek :P

  • I wouldn't go so far to say they should make a remake - BUT, they should definitely revisit the idea of movies in space again. It's been too long!

  • It's amusing to hear everyone complain that we're not out there in space the way we've been advertising for 40-50 years. all I have to say to that is Microsoft Windows 95 or maybe 98. Can you imagine, you have to calculate everything down to the last millisecond to get into the proper orbit so...your on the launch pad...5, 4, 3, 2,2,.....2...2, 2,....Blue Screen! Or maybe you'd like it to hand on approach? The result would have been much more spectacular.

  • Spacex launched this week; beginning a new era in Space exploration NOT on the taxpayers' dime!

  • Got to find this and watch it again. It's been too many years.

  • Loved Frances Sternhagen as the doctor.

  • i watched this on itunes... loved it and am buying the dvd... a very underrated movie! nothing new really new but there are no aliens?! brilliant sci-fi stuff different from the beasty stuff that came out those days

  • Its 2010 - why don't we have any off-world bases (at least, ones in which we know of)? Its so sad that technology is now entertainment-based, gimmick-based, not civilization-expanding or evolutionary. I bet if Corporations and Gov.'s have their way, it will be the year 2150 before we get a moon base and space station hotel - but it will only be for the super rich. What a crock of shit.

  • @mrjustin5 The plans are already drawn up to setup a colony on the moon within the next 20 years, and following that a colony on Mars.

  • @OpenMawProductions Yeah, yeah. I know. Listen, had the Space Race CONTINUED as it did in the 1960's.. it is a FACT (You can google this for yourself) that by 1985 we would have had a permanent moon base AND the first man on Mars by then. 2001 Space Odyssey was basically a showcase for attainable, realistic and feasable space planes and orbiting artificial gravity space stations (from spinning). But now, 2010+ we're getting rehashes of ancient Saturn rockets, give me a fuckin' break.

  • I think Outland has that same feel as Alien, with that more dirty, used, sort of worn look of realism of space travel, not that Star Trek look. They didn't use laser guns in Alien or Outland, the latter film, had only pump shot guns. Which is most effective weapon anyway.

  • What a sweet movie.............thanks

  • Classic movie. Thanks for uploading. I love that era of isolationist space dramas (Alien, Outland, Saturn 3, Silent Running etc), and the awesome, slow, realistic special effects they used for space stations and ships etc.
